Question regarding the exclusions. Clearly states it cant be used for multi-city bookings. What is the definition of a multi-city booking? Do they mean only single sector flights? Would PER->SYD->DFW for example be excluded?

Vouchers are handled in the Qantas system as if they were bookings without a specified route or date. When you redeem the voucher the details are then "filled in". This explains why they have to be for a specific number of people. Just like you can't book a flight for 2 people and then change it so there's only 1 person, you can't book a voucher for two people and then use it for a booking for only one.

Using the multicity tool you cannot use it, and tool is the appropriate word for the piece of rubbish IMHO, its riddled with errors and lacks flexibility.

You can use it on a multi city booking, through the call centre, and avoid the phone assistance/booking fees too.

For example I booked a BNE-MEL, MEL-x/DXB-LHR (switch between QF9 and QF1), LHR-x/DXB-x/MEL (switch between QF2 and QF10)-BNE. The multi city tool online would only offer me up to QF604 for the last MEL-BNE segment. All I had to do was ring them and say I want QF610 on the MEL-BNE (insert excuse) and I can't get that flight on the site to come up. They confirmed this was the case (you do need to be firm about it, ring back if you aren't having luck) and just booked it over the phone, sans fees.

"The largest voucher is $4500 (or $5000) but you need to find people to travel with...'

The largest voucher I can see is $500.

If say I need to book for two pax total fare for both is $1000 I can use one voucher for both?.

The voucher amount is per person. Vouchers can include up to 9 people, hence the maximum voucher is $4500.

In your example you have 2 options. Buy 2 vouchers, of whatever amount but let's say $500, one in the name of each person. 2x$500 vouchers.

The other option is to buy 1 voucher for 2 people. 1x$1000 voucher.

So can I buy $500 for 3 pax three times to make up the nine max?

Not really. One voucher can have upto 9 names on it. This limits the number of people who can be on the same booking. There is no limit on the number of vouchers you can buy.

Also if you get a voucher for 3 passenger then 3 passengers must fly together when you use the voucher.

Another question/uncertainty I have in relation to this is: when the new voucher is created, does the 12 month period to redeem the new voucher reset to that new date, or stick with the original gift voucher purchase date?
They state that the original expiry date will be retained.
"If the full balance of the voucher is not redeemed in one transaction, a new voucher with the same expiry date will be issued for the unused portion of the original voucher, as set out in full terms and conditions."

Considering buying some, just tossing up between a few low amounts or the maximum amount.

You can split a PNR though, such that 2 travelling together are now on separate bookings... I did that earlier this year to refund one flight while keeping the other.

For some here it may still be worth it!

I certainly had no issue calling about this in 2012. A 5 minute explanation and the double SC was applied on the basis that they could see the voucher/booking reference gained flights for the first time within the DSC period.

Yes you can split a PNR, and I believe they'll split multi-person vouchers too. I think someone here on AFF said they were able to do that over the phone.

I would go for the maximum amount until you hit your flight's price. If you had a $600 flight I'd definitely be buying a $500 voucher (5000 points).

Ah great... after I saw this I clicked through to the web page and read all the details there. They didn't have this listed in the email. Thanks!

Question regarding the exclusions. Clearly states it cant be used for multi-city bookings. What is the definition of a multi-city booking? Do they mean only single sector flights? Would PER->SYD->DFW for example be excluded?
AFAIK, a multi city booking is one with multiple sectors where it has to be manually created and the system doesn't include the routings in the booking engine.
eg. I wanted to book MEL-NRT for next yr but since there are no nonstop flights, it had to be MEL-SYD-NRT.
The SYD-NRT was a 2130 departure so I thought connecting from MEL I could make the most of the F lounge by getting a MEL-SYD that departed at say 1200. Thing is, the engine only includes the "best" connections and the earliest MEL flight departed at 1600 in my particular search. It doesn't include any earlier ones (eg 0900 departure from MEL, probably because they don't want to have pax with 10 hour transits).
I could find basically any earlier MEL-SYD flight using the multi city booking tool but not the normal booking engine.
When I rang up saying "I can see it's available online but I can't redeem it with my gift voucher" they enquired, got supervisors and what have you, and confirmed that it would have to be a new manually processed booking which attracted the phone booking fee but not the cc fee ($80 vs $30 respectively IIRC) for the reasons above.
PER-SYD-DFW would only be excluded if the timing wasn't *convenient*.

Interesting, I did that last year with no problems and a few months ago tried to do the same but I got told that I would be charged the manual booking fee but not the cc fee (see above example). Even when asking if WPs get the fee waived, they said no and that such practices get audited and if the staff are found out they would get reprimanded.

Sorry guys. Correct me if I am wrong, but a few people have mentioned buying the vouchers in people's names thus creating the supposed $4500 maximum. But if I am reading the new terms correctly, they state that name changes are now permitted. And if the balance of an unused voucher carries over now, is it possible that you would not have to worry about who the vouchers are for (even how many people are flying) until the time you choose to redeem them? Hope that makes sense. ;)

You can't change the number of people on the voucher:

The number of recipients cannot be changed (you cannot increase or decrease the total number of recipients)

When you mention "supposed $4500 maximum", are you under the impression there is a limit to the amount of gift vouchers you can buy? There isn't. Buy away! Buy them in multiple or varying denominations and, especially if they are just for yourself, you can now buy a big one (maximum of $500 per voucher) and slowly use it up over a number of bookings.

I think people are confusing what the $4500 value is. You only hit that if you are buying a voucher so that 9 people can travel together all at the same time on the same flight/flights!!!

With the catch being that you can only use one voucher per booking. Gotcha. Thanks.

I bought a few vouchers for personal use during last years promotion. I am thinking that I might buy a few again this year of the $500 variety, and then transfer them to people as required for trips to the footy and such, realising that they will not be under the same booking reference though.

Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

I've never started a thread and don't appear to be able to paste the pictures, however, I just received the following email from Qantas:https://email.qantas.com/pub/sf/For...ZO_L9ceFVDz82YfmlXM6fS_XhatZ6O0KBiDUwFnpndKhk.
I can't tell if there is any reason why I shouldn't buy several thousand dollars worth of Qantas Gift Vouchers for myself. I just tried it with a $ 500 Voucher for myself and it seemed to work just fine. No Credit Card Fees on purchase.

If I have missed a catch here somewhere, I'd appreciate a warning before I buy a whole truck load.

Edit: Oops. Looked everywhere for similar thread before I posted above. Thanks for moving it for me...

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

ALH - the only catch I've heard of in the past is that sometimes only one voucher can be redeemed with any flight purchase. So you could only use one $500 voucher with a ~$2500 Y ticket Oz-LHR return.
I don't know if this applies with these vouchers?

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

We have 2 flights to book each a $500+ return so all up $2000, so we (both QFF members) each buy $1000 or I just buy $2000 worth?.
