Consider this,

Buy $1000 in vouchers with your Qantas CU Platinum Visa, 10,000 bonus points from Qantas, plus potentially another 2,000 from the CU???

Earn 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points for every $1 spent on Qantas products and services[SUP]3[/SUP]

[SUB]3. Selected Qantas products and services are Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number) purchased on the Qantas merchant account, i.e. directly with Qantas or some travel agents, and Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees apply. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, Qantas branded non-airfare products, Qantas Freight and Qantas Staff Travel.[/SUB]

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Just got my email (on return from lunch) and very interested in buying (some of) my 2013 QF travel using this method....what's not to like about 10 points per $ spent :D

Yes, can understand that for any DSC's it will be the original date of purchase, but I am more looking at using these to fund my JASA purchases.

but I am more looking at using these to fund my JASA purchases.

By "these" do you mean the gift vouchers...? Gift Vouchers can't be used to purchase Any Seat Awards.

Or do you mean that you will use JASA to "fund" your DSC's...? That is, maximise DSC offers by using JASAs.

LW is looking at using the points derived ;)

Interesting. Might just throw in for a few hundred worth of voucher for a nice cache of points. Unfortunately, I have no QF credit card (will go on Amex MR) and can't afford to put away $1k+, otherwise this is a nice spinner....

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Can these be used for oneworld fares (eg LONE4, circle pacific DCIR22-type tickets)?

Qantas Vouchers|Terms and Conditions
The website does not explicitly say if you can or not...

I rang to ask and they said I could [since the first flight will be a QF one], however the voucher can't be redeemed online for a LONE4 and would have to be done over the phone and incur the $60 booking fee.

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Hi,

I rang up and asked a few things. I'm not sure the best way to use this for flights that cost more than 500 but maybe you could book business class and then cancel and then apply THAT credit shell to the booking. You can buy as many as you want for yourself, for example I was going to buy 200 and 300 dollar vouchers to pay for trips to Brisbane for work (work would then reimburse me).

It can only be used on flights, no way to get it out to hotels etc. You can change the name on the voucher but only once.

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Would Sydney - Townsville be classed as multi-city as you have to go via BNE?

From what I have attempted recently on the phone with a 2 people NO. The $$ paid via credit card is locked away with the voucher booking so it will sit as a booking QZW Airport - QZY Airport with the full value of the voucher/credit card $$ sitting there

Again, that's what I was told twice by the "Plat desk" and they did claim to confirm it with a supervisor

thanks for the reply lovestotravel

Only if you use the "multi-city" option (the third one next to "return" and "one-way") in the booking engine.

If you are just selecting a flight option presented when searching for a one-way or return flight, then you can use the gift voucher then.

Perspective: Buy a $500 voucher and get 5000 bonus points + whatever CC earn you may get (Note: Last years purchases qualified as "Qantas Spend" on My Earth Amex so earned an additional 2½ points per $.

Wait for the next transpacifc sale and book, say, a $1400 fare MEL-LAX rt, use yon voucher to pay, so another $900 on to of the 500.

Fly MEL-LAX rt and earn between ~15K and ~30K QFF points depending on your status.

For a WP, total outlay is $1400, total QFF points earn is ~36,250.

Bought a $250 gift voucher on Amex
2 mins later, redeemed it for flight MEL SYD for 242 rtn (would have been $242 + $7.70 on credit card anyway)
250X10 points bonus - 2500
2x1000 for flights 2000
2x250 Amex 500

Total 5000 points

I'll wear the $8 loss if I can't use the remainder of voucher!!

Another limitation of these vouchers to consider: For those who enjoy credit card provided international travel insurance, the use of a voucher + a CC supplementary payment might invalidate the credit card's travel insurance. At least that's what Zurich Insurance (who provide international travel insurance for many CCs) has told me.

Purchasing the travel insurance separately could cost $100s, depending on the trip of course.

It would depend on the insurance qualification criteria. But, in general, it should be simple enough to purchase the gift voucher with the same card.

I cannot see a credit card supplier having issues with a promotion that effectively brings forward spend if it results in that flight having been funded by the card in entirety.

Which is the situation that Zurich Insurance specifically stated would result in the travel insurance becoming invalid. They called this "component purchasing" (or similar). And it didn't matter that all components were purchased with the one card.

It doesn't seem right to me... I'm just relaying what I was told directly by Zurich.

Worth bring this to the attention of the card company, I would imagine they may take umbrage at a partner discouraging spend on their product being accelerated.

Bizarre reasoning. Paying for flights, hotels, ground transport, meals separately isn't component purchasing?

I'm struggling to remember the qualification criteria for my cards, other than one of them had a 50% for the travel cost spend requirement. I think I was able to just pay for the hire car to qualify.

It would be interesting to know your qualifying criteria.
