Earning Velocity points with BP

Extract from an AFR article published 17 / 11 / 2014 updated 18 / 11 - interview / quote attributed to Neil Thompson - Velocity top dog. ..... for what it's worth.

Details of how Velocity members will earn points with BP will be announced before the program begins in the first quarter of next year. Mr Thompson said options included basing it on dollar spending or on the number of litres of petrol purchased.
“We did customer research ahead of this that confirmed certainly that this would be an attractive offer – not only for their customers but also for our members,” Mr Thompson said.

I am hoping it is on dollars spent - I have to use 98-Ron petrol in my car and at 10-20 cents a litre more than standard 91-Ron petrol I would feel slighty ripped off if I was getting the same points as someone who was paying less per litre. Guess it depends on whether the deal it is just for fuel or for whole of spend in store e.g. including snacks, milk etc

What Ive been told is that when at BP, you can "pick up a temporary card" and register up to 5 temp cards to your Velocity account. Temp cards expire in 105 days from activation. Reason being, if a family member fills up your car but doesn't have your Velocity card.

I was also told that its for "any purchase" but will have to wait till we read the T&Cs.

I have filled up at 4 different BP QLD Stations over the past two weeks and no sign of 'swipe prompt' in the deep north just yet.

I was told by a lady who was working at BP wearing a nice red t-shirt with the BP Logo and Velocity logo on it when they are launching and she informed me April 16! But she wasn't allowed to say what the earn rate was until 13th April at this stage.

I'll be happy to see this finally rolled out as an alternative to always having to find a Caltex Woolworths for fuel... hoping it's based on how much you spend!

The message comes up just before the Swipe Credit Card. So if the operator was quick to press the button on their console that you're paying by card, you wouldn't see it.

Unless you can buy BP cards at a discount this is not worth it.

You csn easily get woolies cards for 5 to 7.5% off and then QFF points

I've switched to Caltex ever since the BigW 7.5% promo. BP/VFF would have to have an astonishing earn rate to beat Giftcard + EDR + MyerOne

Agreed but it's done the job of making me change my habits. 5% off still next best option I know
