EDR Cellarmasters Promotions (new)

Just got a most interesting telephone call from Cellarmasters (direct) [02 9333 8000, so all above board there as I'd had missed calls from that number over the last week and already rung it to find out whose number it was] . He said I was randomly selected (along with 4K others from their database) to be invited to purchase 2 bottles of the Top 6 Blind Tasting Reds that the Cellarmasters "tasters group" had recently selected. Comes with tasting notes and score cards so I can apparently have a dinner (tasting) party, we can mark them ourselves. Then I can vote for the Top Red via the website. If I vote then I go in the draw for a weekend for 2 at the Barossa, including accom (Novotel) and chauffeur driven winery tour (now he was ringing some serious bells there).

Seems that for a case that averages $31 bottle, they are marking it down 54% and comes in at $167.88 per case. Now at that price I was interested (to include these in my wine fridges for cellaring) and then he says we can do it in a 3 month no interest payments via CC. That sold me!

May not have got 1K QFF bonus points, but I did put it on Amex :D.

Markis10, what is this Red like...? never had this one from memory...? seems cheap for Penfolds... is this a reasonable drink...?

Also from memory, when does the 1,000 QFF offer end again...?

BTW, thanks for the Penfolds selection, I just need to know its an OK drink before I jump on-board...

He he, my installed Android app "ignore call" protecting me from calls from Cellarmasters trying to speak to myself & also Mrs Shintaro... They call me, the app answers then quickly hangs-up ... And they NEVER leave a message on my Voicemail he he

Looking at the call blocked log they have called me at least once a Day for the past month... Sometimes up to three times a day

Handy app that one to keep the phone quiet from the pesky pushy sales people...!

Edit: Perhaps tomorrow I turn off the call block and answer their call, I'm pretty sure that after they give me the hard sell my response will be, and what's the bonus QFF points on that one...? 1,000 QFF, 2,000 QFF, 5,000 QFF...?:lol::lol:

It's a modern style red that is designed for drinking now but has cellar potential, and a bargain at that price IMHO.

I though the 09 Penfold's Chardonnay was better to take under this deal, might have to grab the Cab Sauv as well though as the price is good. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks ... 1290 points in total with 1½PP$ Earth Amex for 18 reds ... the mixed reds are reasonably quaffable and I'm a fan of Hyland ... :D

Thanks to markis10 - I have ordered the $69 mixed reds and the Hyland Cab Sav.
I have a serious oversupply of wine - I think I will "cellar" the Hyland at my parents place - dad can become my cellar master.

An easy 1117 points from CM + 116 points from WW EDR Mastercard, for $116.84 :D

I didn't get the double points offer this time ... I got it in March.

I got both... Thought everybody did :confused::confused: I'm confused now, I thought everybody got the same credit card offers...?

Not sure: I've checked all my mail and spam and didn't get that one. I don't know if I care... I still haven't got my points from the March offer.

My 2x points from march offer posted this month...

Shintaro, you can just tell them at the start of the call to not call you again. Some of the telephone sales people even suggest it if you sound frustrated, and you still get emails and the occasional letter if you wish.

Some food for thought when selecting a wine.

A survey of hundreds of drinkers found that on average people could tell good wine from plonk no more often than if they had simply guessed.
In the blind taste test, 578 people commented on a variety of red and white wines ranging from a £3.49 bottle of Claret to a £29.99 bottle of champagne. The researchers categorised inexpensive wines as costing £5 and less, while expensive bottles were £10 and more.
The study found that people correctly distinguished between cheap and expensive white wines only 53% of the time, and only 47% of the time for red wines. The overall result suggests a 50:50 chance of identifying a wine as expensive or cheap based on taste alone – the same odds as flipping a coin.

Expensive wine and cheap plonk taste the same to most people | Science | The Guardian

Buyers definitely associate price and quality - This is a well researched phenomena in marketing. The classic college example is the Baked Beans War in the UK. (I personally hate baked beans, but its a great study of buyer behaviour). There was a price war on baked beans (near-identical products). One manufacturer increased their price and sales went sky high, as their product was seen as being of higher quality than their competitor.

However with wine, especially for a wine-lover there is an external metaphysic of quality, which is very difficult to measure. Although quality is positively correlated with price, the correlation is not as strong as people think. In a good vintage you can buy a well made wine that drinks very well for $10. In a bad vintage, a good winery can release an average wine and charge $100.
