A quiet week here again

Me - Hair care offer of 100 bonus points on any hair care purchase although it says can be redeemed twice. This should be OK to purchase 2 products in the one shop and receive 200 bonus points.

Why I would be targeted for discounts on baby stuff is beyond me, given my age alone would suggest my activities in that dept were long gone , and they do know my age

Maybe you're not firing blanks and they know that too?

Thanks for your faith, and I will neither confirm nor deny :-).

But it is fair to say that unless they know about my grandchildren ( older tHan babies now anyway ) I am still not sure .
It's now been about 3 weeks and I have had no meaningful targeted MR promo.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

I've also been inspired by Joshua's efforts but would like some advice on whether I should get involved in this given my situation.

I don't like Qantas or Woolworths.

I have been concentrating on Velocity for the past 2 years and for a self-funded leisure flyer (15 - 20 flights per year) I've earnt good points through flying almost exclusively with VA and taking advantage of the random offers (credit card sign-on bonuses, double points in the global shop etc). If there was a similar offer to WOW with Coles and VA FF I would be all over it like a rash.

However, there are only so many ways to earn VA points without flying or spending lots of money.

This seems to be the only offer at the moment for any airline in Australia that has the possibility of SERIOUS points earn for very little money (the 100 points per Select offer for cat food means less than 1 cent per point).

I'm loathe to split my points between 2 rival airlines as it seems to dilute both but I read this thread every day as it seriously gaining my interest and I feel like Im missing out on some fantastic earning opportunities!

Anyone in a similar boat?

Still hoping someone can give me some advice on this!!

Offers come & go.......as it will with EDR's!

As a QFF member I've watched with a little envy how VA provide upgrades, family pooling, 241 deals, free SC with CC & various other free memberships for status.....the list goes on.

IMO unless you're earning a significant amount of points through CC it's better sticking with the one scheme and maximising points - particularly if you're accumulating points for family trips. For single/couple having multiply memberships may work however, you'd still need to earn a decent amount of points to make it work.

As a family of 4 (5 when the MIL comes along) we need to earn 520K or 650K points for our annual Asian holiday. For some this number is easily achieved however, for the great majority splitting points over schemes doesn't make sense.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I'm very happy with Velocity at the moment - I have bonus points, 2-4-1 flights and lounge passes coming at me almost faster than I can use them. I have saved far more than I have spent on annual fees etc.

What Velocity is missing is serious earn without serious spend. I watch with envy at you guys with your bonus 100/200/500 etc points. There is a WOW directly on my tram route home and I'll often stop in there on the way home to get milk, toilet paper etc. I would have no trouble at all stopping in there everyday to buy a random item to get points.

What I am concerned about it getting another credit card. 18 months ago I had never had even 1, now I have 3 (Velocity Visa, Velocity Amex and 28 degrees for my overseas trip). I LOVE big sign-on points bonuses. Just having a quick search of QF credit cards I could get the WOW Everyday card which I think has a 16 - 20K sign-on bonus for $89 depending on the promotion. I'd then happily buy a few random items each week/day in order to get additional points (I think big like Joshua did!).

I know churning cards is an issue for another thread and it's not done much in Australia compared with the US. I recently ordered a credit report on myself to see what kind of damage my 3 cards had done and the report came back with absolutely no credit applications at all (and no other credit history - Ive never had any loans or defaulted on anything). I'm not sure whether this was a good thing or a bad thing (the reporting agency assured me it was good because no news was good news). Amex didnt check any of my references or ask for any ID when they approved my card so Im not surprised if they didnt register it with a credit agency.

If through random occasional credit card churns and playing the EDR game I could get 50 - 100K points each year that would be of good use to me - I fly domestically personally a fair bit and would probably use the points for domestic YASAs or JASAs a few times a year, keeping my Velocity points for international J (LAX etc).

I know its been asked before but how many credit cards is too many?

Just did a 4 dollar shop consisting of a select Jelly, a can of macro tomatoes and 1 shaving stick. Now lets see if I trigger anything...

Looks like I'll be in Big W this afternoon, buying some Dunlop DDH golf balls $22.86 (for practice or give aways to clients) and 27 tennis balls (for the dogs and kids) $20 - that will get my wife another 300 bonus points + 12 EDR points and 63 Amex points :D

I've got my fingers crossed for a great email from the EDR fairies waiting for me when I wake up tomorrow!!

Caught in traffic and got to Stafford Big W at 5.50pm. No time to spare so grabbed some chocs for neighbour who had our daughter today to keep company with her 2 daughters.

Found the sporting goods area and found the tennis balls then had to find the golf balls. Found some Wilson Titaniums at the same price, so ditched the DDH balls and tennis balls. Annoying that they weren't showing online, but fortunate I found them.

Off to the only check-out open and made sure I gave my wifes' EDR card. Receipt says 5.54pm, so by the skin of my....
