EDR Targeted Bonus Point Promotions

Just did a xmas shop that included a few gift cards.. came to $758. Used the wife's EDRC as she had a 5 points for every dollar above $30. So 3640 points plus the 758 points for using my woolies plat card. Nice xmas pick up.

All of our family member accounts got a $10 off a $100 purchase at WW which can be used either instore or online. It's a good deal for some but the target is too high for us. I managed to get $10 off a $50 shop today by combining two week 6 coupons(and I picked up $1 from an abandoned trolley). The rest of my Christmas grocery shopping will be from Coles using up my flybuys dollars from a recent promotion.

We did a shop for Xmas requirements and put together $105 - with click & collect on Tuesday. Disappointing that we missed the earlier discounts for orders being delivered yesterday (20th) or today (21st); as well as the "computer says no" when we tried the $10 discount (starts 22nd). Final attempt at something was my double points (week 6) but it also has expiry date of 21st so we missed out (due to later C&C date).

we received the $10 off a $100 spend too...planning a shop xmas eve

Used my offer to top up my Opal card by $!00:)

GREAT IDEA.

Also if using Travel Tens (and don't do 10 trips a week) then stock pile some as they go up in price a few % on Jan 1 so get a few more dollars off effectively plus the $10 discount.

Are travel tens still available? Thought they got cut months ago.

Sure are, although I'm still using the 90s terminology.

Always causes a slight delay when I ask for them as now they call them "My Bus 1 TravelTen" or "My Bus 2 TravelTen'

If taking less than 10 trips a week then My Bus Travel Tens are significantly cheaper than OPAL. If irregular user then the saving is even greater as you know you pay full price on first 8 trips. So if only a few trips a week then OPAL is a rip off.

Going back two years - an annual ticket gave you a 47% discount to full fare and I would get one that covered the extreme distance within my destinations. So even though going to Sydney CBD I could get through to Milsons Point (as well as far south as Central) from my starting point for the same cost. Very useful for covering some business trips during the day etc.

With OPAL using route distance charging = significantly more expensive. I could catch a circuitous Metrobus to near Central using it. Costed that with OPAL and works out at 2.5 times standard fare due to long twisting route. Convenient for point to point destination and service frequency - reading time along the way using annual pass. With OPAL - forget it until day 5!

For all travel modes (not just bus which is what GB keeps quoting figures for) then only 20something % travel cheaper with OPAL vs old system. Winners are people required to change modes (bus/train etc) and were not 5 day a week travellers.

My eldest son had a 'robust discussion' on EDR LiveChat today regarding a 300 point bonus that did not post. He spent the qualifying amount but it included an OPAL top-up and an Amaysim top-up. The agent said they don't qualify. The email making the offer said in a footnote that 'The qualifying amount excludes selected purchases including liquor, smoking/tobacco products, gift cards and selected services'. The agent kept saying they are 'selected services'. Nowhere in the email did it define selected services so he asked the agent to send him an email with Woolworths definition of 'selected services'. The agent ignored him and ended the call when he persisted. My son is a law student and was a bit flabbergasted by the response. EDR are on shaky ground if they can't even backup their own statements with evidence. Has anyone else had this problem?

As a family we are moving more and more towards FlyBuys. Their posting of bonus points has really improved whereas EDR bonuses never seem to post and you always have to follow up. This sort of encounter drives us more and more towards Coles when this time last year we were firmly in the Woollies camp.

I think EDR should be more clear in their terms and conditions. I also think the term "selected services" needs a detailed explanation. I am guessing that the rules regarding Opal purchases are complicated. They appear to qualify for $ off type transactions like the current one, but don't count towards points deals which are paid at a later date.

It sounds similar to reports I've seen regarding non Woolworths gift cards sold at Woolworths. I have seen members use these to qualify for high value fuel vouchers(when they had them) and other spend in store discounts but there seems to be a problem when these types of purchases are used for points offers.

There seems to be one rule of what is "legal" for instore instant rewards and a different rule for points rewards which are credited later.

I think EDR should make the rules clear and be consistent throughout their promotions for Opal top ups and mobile credit payments.

I'm also making more money with flybuys at the moment, even taking into account the recent EDR coupons promotion.

I topped up my Opal card on 20 Dec with $80 so that I can take advantage of the spend $80 and get 500 bonus points promotion. The regular points (50) for the $80 purchase was posted first and then the bonus points posted one week later.

Based on my experience, it appears that Opal top ups qualify for both instant discounts and bonus points offers.

Opal uses direct distance for buses and trams (as crow flies) - 0-3km, 3-8km, 8+km. Old paper tickets used road distance with each segment being roughly 1km.

Other Opal winners include those transferring buses or doing quick <1hr transits

Double points here too. Not the most inspired offer to kick off the year...

My partner got an offer for 250 points for a $30 spend. It's one use only and valid from Monday to Thursday. We should be able to use this offer during that time.

Another account got the double points offer but we won't need any more than the $30 of goods above from WW this week so we won't be using this one.
