And at 10am we were driving in to FCO.

Now our flight on BA to LHR didn't leave until 1645 so we were looking at a long time sitting around in the airport. Decided to try and book in not rating our chances very highly. But a great agent and within minutes BPs in hand and going through security. So just before 1030 we were in the BA lounge. This meant I could finish my Cruise TR.
As well internet on land is so much better on land so able to download some apps for the iPhone and get application for a share issue I thought I would miss.
The lounge was fairly full. Wasn't helped that a couple here took up 4 seats. Two for themselves and two for their bags.
IMG_3758.JPG

And that is even though the bags would fit under the table between each 2 seats like ours.

FCO has improved considerably since the last time we flew out of here. However that was nearly 16 years ago on a CX 747 when we had been upgraded to F. Seems very bright and up to date with good food offerings and a very nice Italian food court. Naturally though airport prices.

And reasonable aircraft views if you can snag a window seat in the BA lounge. We couldn't.

So initially our flight was meant to leave at 1645. About an hour before departure that was put back to 1705. At about 1640 we headed to the gate. As we arrived the first passengers from the incoming flight were coming off the airbridge. They came off in small groups and it took quite some time. Two wheel chair passengers were last. As the left a fellow on his own mobility scooter headed to the gate agent calling his wife after him. He had been on our cruise and was similiarly behaved on the cruise. He had obviously had a stroke which probably explained his behaviour.

Group 1 was then called which was way more than those in business class. We were second and third. However as we got close to the plane there was the guy on his scooter in heated converseation with a gate agent on how to deal with his scooter. She was adamant that the battery had to be disconnected and the scooter put into a container which had to be done on ground level. However it was raining and the wife was upset as she said the scooter is not allowed to get wet. Though I was on2 tender trips when the 2 of them were onboard with the scooter which was exposed to the spray on both trips and that didn't seem to peturb them.
So we all ended up waiting another 25 minutes in the airbridge whilst that was sorted. I have messaged BA suggesting that mobility scooters must be sent for loading at check in and a wheelchair provided to the person with the scooter. Several people missed connections due to the delay.

Unfortunately that wasn't the end of the problems. There were quite a few that came on with more than 1 large carryons. The couple in the row in front of us had 4 one of which could only be fitted in length wise. Another smart cough young American also had a bag that would only fit length wise and told the FA she was rude and aggressive when she told him to check it in next time. I'm sure he won't. It ended up with 3 bags being unable to be fitted into the bins so another 10 -15 minutes before that was sorted.
So to the flight. A new A321 but still the European version of J with just the middle seat blocked.
IMG_3772.JPG
IMG_3773.JPG

Found out a new reason to put a pink ribbon on your case. You know exactly which bin it is in.
IMG_3774.JPG

The meal was either a chicken salad or spinach gnocchi. Being Rowc 3 we were able to have the chicken salad. Heard the folks in Rows 4 and 5 complaining loudly that there was only the gnocchi for them. One woman saying she paid for business class so that she could have a choice of meals. New one on me. She kept on having a go at the CSM throughout the flight saying she was going to complain to management.
so here is the meal.
IMG_3775.JPG

Mrsdrron had the Sav Blanc and I the Argentinian Malbec. We were very nice to the CSM so we both got 2 small bottles which equalled half a bottle of wine.
IMG_3776.JPG

Now Mrs Row 4 must have complained because 2 hours after the flight we both got an email apologising for the delay. So I took it upon myself to message BA again. Sherryn the CSM was actually fantastic in placating most passengers and providing a shoulder to a couple of the younger FAs who were close to tears. They had come from the back of the plane. Sherryn did the bulk of the work and her smile never left her face throughout it all. I specifically mentioned how she didn't waver even with a torrent of abuse from a woman in Row4.

We were meant to and at 1825 but although we left 80 minutes late we were still at the gate after a 10 minute wait for it at 1925.
Then when heading for the train from the remote gate Mrs Row 4 came barrelling past me elbowing me as she passed. Wasn't going to let that just happen so I effectively blocked her partner from getting past. In her frustration she took a wrong turning and ended up missing te first tain. Poetic justice.
Finally into a taxi about 2020. The sun was setting.
IMG_3780.JPG

An honest taxi driver as even with a tip the fare was GBP 20 cheaper than a similiar distance 5 years ago.

Ah the folk one encounters when travelling @drron - Mrs Row 4, Scooter people, overhead bin hoggers ( good ribbon tip though) and the young American.
Hats off to your CSM!

Viking has introduced starlink into their latest ships and the internet is blistering. I was able to post 10 photos of around 4mb each in about 3 minutes. Debark day is wicked.

so here is the meal.

That looks really nice

So I took it upon myself to message BA again.

How do you do that? The app?

She was adamant that the battery had to be disconnected and the scooter put into a container which had to be done on ground level.

Good grief - how could there be any doubt? In Oz, take battery out of scooter, insulate the terminals both on the scooter and disconnected battery; scooter as checked baggage (you'd be mad not to thoroughly bubble-wrap it); battery as carry-on, as long as its under a certain watt-hour or current delivery, forget which.

As has Silversea. It was great for posting photos on my trip report. No difference to home. But on my iPhone I could not access the App store and quite a few tasks that were virtually impossible such as accessing my form for an SPP I wished to participate in.
Hopefully when more of the latest satellites launched it will improve further.

I message BA from the website. App is to clunky for me plus at nomal size I can't read anything on it. Enlarge it and I am scrolling to and fro to read the page.
Back to the TR.
In London we are staying at the Sloane Club apartments. Perfectly situated for the flower show and the walking route goes right past our door.

There is a saying about swinging a cat and it is appropriate here. When we booked our mobility problems were not to bad but during the cruise her back pain changed and she is now getting very sharp shooting pains to the right side. Is slowly settling since starting Amitryptyline. However means this apartment is not for us. If coming back to London this area is very good and we would probably stay at the Cheval apartments across the road from Cardogan Hall or their apartments in Knightsbridge.

However if you are young and fit or get the larger 1 bedroom apartment which has no stairs they are fine. When we booked it was one of the few places that had vacancies this week and one of the cheapest especially compared to ordinary rooms in any Hilton, Marriott or IHG property in the area.

Monday and basically a day off. In the planning stage we were intending to get the train out to see RHS Wisley but with the way we are at the moment that is possibly not such a great idea. So we ended up doing a leisurely stroll down the King's road to Marks and Sparks. Most of the retail establishments have put on a floral display to celebrate the Chelsea Flower show. some truly magnificent.

And across the street was a restaurant and gin bar- The Botanist. But likely nothing to do with the gin of the same name as it only featured twice on the several pages of gin mixes. But we wanted lunch.
