Emirates Delays/Cancellations

On a foggy Wednesday 2 August in MEL that has already seen VA252 from CBR have a missed approach, and then divert to back to CBR or SYD, EK404, the overnight from SIN to MEL (A380 A6-EOK) is arriving at 0820 hours, half an hour late.

The 0710 hours MEL to AKL, EK406 (A380 A6-EEG) was in the sky at 090 with arrival suggested as 1334 this afternoon local time, 49 minutes late.

Friday 4 August sees EK404, the redeye from SIN to MEL (A380 A6-EEZ) suggested as arriving 39 minutes late at 0829 hours.

The DXB - BNE EK434 is worse with A6-EDN looking likely to arrive at 0818, 113 minutes behind schedule.

EK406, also an A380 (A6-EDP), the 0710 hours MEL - AKL took off at 0845 hours so arrival should be at 1343, 58 minutes late.

On Monday 7 August, A380 A6-EDO on EK418 from BKK down to SYD is likely to arrive at 0843, 63 minutes tardy.

EK412 (1015 hours Sunday 6 DXB - SYD that did not take off until 1327, A380 A6-EUK) arrived on Monday 7 at 0837 instead of 0605. The 0750 hours second sector (SYD - CHC) is expected to feature departure at about 1015 hours, although websites optimistically suggest 1005 hours.

For the second consecutive day, EK418 from BKK to SYD (A380 A6-EDM) is delayed, with Tuesday 8 August arrival suggested as 0918 hours, 98 minutes late. This aircraft stables in SYD until the 1830 hours EK419 SYD - BKK - DXB return.

On Wednesday 8 August, EK406 (0710 hours early morning MEL across to AKL) did not take off until 0839. A380 A6-EEF is projected to arrive in the non-capital NZ harbour city at 1351 hours, 66 minutes late.

EK409 MEL-DXB will arrive in Dubai almost 3 hours late today. I'd say it probably has something to do with this frankly bizarre routing:

The flight time will probably end up at 16+ hours. I would not want to be doing this flight in an economy middle seat (especially on an EK 777)!

Looks to me as if they are playing it very safe and feel they might have issues requiring them to land - but if that was the case - why risk it and carry on flying and not get down and get it fixed?

Very Bizarre - and while funny to see - hate to be in Y on that flight to endure that extra 3 hours because of the joyride.

Yes, quite possibly an ETOPS issue requiring them to fly over land. That still doesn't explain why they flew over SYD, BNE, CNS etc. Perhaps there were strong winds?

Have read elsewhere the issue was APU was not functional/working - so reduced to EPOPS120 - and this is a result of that.

The 0500 hours MEL - DXB EK409 (that on Friday 18 August is B773ER A6-ECM) is an unattractive schedule, at least in its departure time, as it means checking in between 0200 and 0500 (yuk!) but one consolation is that the flight does not often appear to be late. However this morning it took off at a delayed 0622, so arrival should be at 1423, 83 minutes tardy.

The Friday 18 August EK435 (A390 A6-EDC, the 2100 hours absolute mid evening that was airborne at a much delayed 2325) looks to be arriving on Saturday 19 at about 0652 hours, 102 late.

EK418 from DXB - BKK - SYD that was timetabled to arrive the latter at 0740 hours on Saturday 19 August was delayed overnight in BKK. A388 A6-EDO looks to be arriving in SYD at about 2138, so departure may not be tonight back to BKK unless the Federal Minister's delegate grants an exemption from the Sydney 2300 hours curfew. EK419 normally departs SYD at 1830 back north.

Monday 21 August sees A380 A6-EUB on EK418 (1800 hours MELO - SIN that took off at 1849) with arrival suggested at 0022 hours on Tuesday 22 August, 32 minutes behind schedule.

Wednesday 23 August 2017 has EK405 (A380 A6-EOI, the 1800 hours MEL - SIN) having taken off at 1848 with expected arrival at 0030 hours on Thursday 24, 40 minutes behind schedule.

There is at kleast one media report ('Herald SUn') of some problem with the arriving DXB - MEL EK406 (A380 A6-EDB) that was due into MEL at 0525 hours but which landed at 0534 on Thursday 24 August. The scheduled 0710 hours MEL - AKL tag flight has been cancelled as will the return AKL - MEL this afternoon.

Brother was returning to Dublin on Thursday (24/8) on EK407. At least 2 hours late leaving Melb and missed connection in DXB so had to stay overnight in Dubai.

Monday 11 September 2017 has TransTasman EK406, the 0710 hours MEL - AKL not having taken off until 0859 (with Melbourne Airport having predicted it would depart at 0800, so there must have been a further unexpected delay.) Arrival is predicted 70 late at 1355 this afternoon.
