I'm just departing Brisbane on the 6:30pm flight to Auckland.

The Emirates Brisbane lounge opens 5pm and is available for Qantas Gold and higher as well as Business passengers flying Qantas.

I was welcomed in just after 5pm and had a good 45 minutes with far better F&B than available that at the Qantas International Business Lounge.

It was a long walk to Gate 75, and then further back to gate 84 tonight, but certainly worth the trek. (Moet/Tattenger v. Seppelts)

Please post your ongoing experiences in being able to use Emirates lounges while flying Qantas.

Similar situation in Sydney - EK lounge opens just after 5, allowing time for a quick visit before the night flights to NZ. QF149 to Auckland has the best of it with its 1915 departure.
There's also possibilities with the morning opening - although it's usually just QF141 and 143 to AKL before EK closes at 0815.
This is particularly handy when the flight departs from the high gate numbers.

Might not be worth the diversion from the QF FLounge, but from Business...

Definitely worth decamping from the QF Flounge if you like your champagne and need a break from Lallier. When I was there 11Dec, Emirates lounge SYD had Veuve, Laurent Perrier and Moet.

Indeed, the joys of the arrangement means (if timed right) that you can enjoy the best of both.

In AKL, those on the occasional 8pm/9pm flight to MEL or the 7pm to SYD are normally able to make use of this (noting the EK lounge is currently closed for renovation until mid March).

If the WLG flight leaves from the gates in the same area as the EK lounge, I usually go there when it opens after the QF lounge. But WLG flight departs at 6:40 pm so only a short time.

Looking forward to DXB EK F lounge at end of April. Not my first rodeo!

My BIL was flying with his wife on QF from MEL-CGK in J and attempted to enter the EK lounge in MEL and were denied as they said the lounge was only available for codeshare QF/EK flights or EK passengers, anyone heard anything?

There has been reports of denial of entry based on whether on not QF/EK have a codeshare on a route. I have had no issue at MEL accessing before Qantas marketed and operated flights to New Zealand or Singapore.

Maybe there are no codeshares to CGK?

I have no problem in SYD when flying QF only to WLG, but the flight is codeshare.

Unfortunately, it appears the Emirates staff are correct. Access available for codeshare routes only. The easiest way I know (someone else might know a better way) to find if the QF flight I'm on is an EK codeshare, is to go to the departing airport's website and search for the schedule of departures. Codeshare designations are also listed.

Here's a link to the relevant QF pages.

I thought the QF CGK flight departs MEL before the Emirates lounge is open. Unless the said flight was very delayed, that EK lounge is not really an option.

FWIW, I have also once been unfairly denied entry to the AKL EK lounge under the excuse the lounge was full so don't be too surprised if that happens to you.

This is been asked and answered before. Not sure if it is this thread or another?

The wording on that page doesn't actually support the claim that it's only for EK codeshare routes, and furthermore the table relates specifically to QF lounges and the the EK DXB lounges only.

This is what it says:

Eligible customers and their guests booked on a Qantas flight number on the codeshare routes can access the following lounges. Eligible customers can also access Emirates Lounges across Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East when flying on eligible Qantas or Emirates flights with a QF or EK flight number on your ticket.
If anything, it seems to suggest that there shouldn't be anything stopping you from getting access with the QF CGK flight.

Correct that the flight needs to be substantially delayed to CGK (which it often is) to enter the EK lounge but this article by point hacks gives me the understanding that QF J tickets can enter as its within the region Your guide to Emirates lounge access for Qantas frequent flyers

Yes I read that and based on Points Hack's summation, CGK is in Asia so access should be granted. I guess as RealtimeY has indicated in his interpretation of the QF elaboration, it's so open to differing takeouts. I guess at the end of the day, how the deskstaff (rightly or wrongly) interpret the rules will see the access granted or denied.

Its odd that it seems clear for EK passengers entering QF lounge but not vice-versa
