Sounds like an excellent opportunity. I am in the process of trying to work out which career direction I'd like to take, but fear that I don't have the necessary skills or experience excel in this position (my writing skills for example suck) I'll be interested to see the full description before making further judgement, however.

Certainly a very interesting opportunity for someone well placed, travel-oriented, and correctly skilled to take it. I imagine it would require a very full focus on the job. It would be both interesting and nice to see someone from AFF get the role, but good luck in finding the right applicant in any case bossreggie, no matter from where he/she is sourced.

if I was only 10 years younger and didn't have a family who might object to me being away for so much time...

Bossreggie can I ask what you actually do \ what industry you are in?

I was heavily involved in the automotive industry and international freight forwarding.

Having sold all of my business interests, I am now unemployed, but I am considering some consulting opportunities.

I am overseeing a large renovation in London which takes me there most months.

Aside from that I guess you could say I "Invest".

Although Bossreggie -

I understand that you and your PA have one of the most abysmal op-up rates of anyone on AFF ;)

Even worse than JohnK I believe :)

Ha-ha.... It is fair to say I have NEVER had an op-up!! Maybe it because of the price I pay for my tickets??;)

A great PA is an absolute godsend - I was lucky to inherit my boss's PA(s) - I have some poor experience with others...
On this simon, we totally agree. We are in the midst of sorting out issues as a result of not so good experiences.

This is an amazing opportunity. I am interested in the salary range you offer - does make us look like we totally overpay ours which is the source of additional grief methinks!

Lucky person.

I was very lucky to inherit an angel of a PA when i stepped into a new role a few years ago.

She was an absolute godsend, not only kept my life well organised, but tactfully saved me from mistepping a few times too (particularly in the early days).

I was very disappointed when she left (after many years with the organisation) and was replaced with a "nothing special" PA.

I think the single best asset was that I could leave the office and just "know" that I wouldn't be returning to any disasters or surprises :)

A fantastic opportunity - I sent you a PM Mr. Reggie ;)

Any 'qualifications' needed as such?

There will be an official Position Description available in the new year.

In terms of "formal" qualifications, I am not that concerned. My current PA worked at a hotel and he looked after a lot of arrangements for me when I was staying there as a guest. I poached him to work for me.

The ability to handle ALL my travel arrangements promptly is paramount. I also have a lifestyle which means the majority of my travel is last minute. An example, I AM going to London this year.... Still have not booked flights or accommodation.

At the moment, all I do is text Matthias when I want to go and everything is emailed to me. That is the type of thing I wish to be able to continue to do with my new PA.

There are some good perks aside from the obvious travel. Mobile, Laptop, Home and Mobile Internet is 100% paid for. All Travel expenses including meals, drinks etc. You get to keep 100% of any loyalty program points to use as you see fit.

The ability to work autonomously is also important. You need to be able to schedule my diary and handle 90% of my telephone calls and correspondence. The ability to liaise with people of all levels will be required.

A drivers licence is important, as there will be times it will be required.

Not that it's a big deal......... But you will also have CL access and a very shiny Coutts and Co, World card!!

Ah I wish I could apply but the Mrs would have me on a stake ...... maybe she does love me afterall :?:

This might be the only way I could make WP1

Best of luck with the search!

Having spoken at length with bossreggie over the past couple of years, I can confirm the veracity of his statements below.

Damn, my wife has always through that I would be better suited in a travel industry role, but not sure the kids would see it the same way. Bloody tempting. Suppose the best candidate would be MEL-based, otherwise the travel planning would have a layer of complexity not needed.

All I can say is WOW.

If I had have seen this 10 years ago I would have jumped at the opportunity. I'm sure you'll get inundated with applications BR.

That description is what some dreams are made of... 200+ days away and all pointy end travel...

Ah to be young and single and i'd have applied in a heartbeat!

Good luck with the search, but it's killing me reading this thread.

If only one day I could start a similar thread.....

Whilst the role itself is not necessarily glamorous, my assistant is very important to me and is treated as such.

So it's safe to assume that your PA doesn't have to work under the same conditions as say, Ari Gold's PA.

So it's safe to assume that your PA doesn't have to work under the same conditions as say, Ari Gold's PA.

Not a chance!!

In my entire working life there would not be a single member of my staff who would ever say I have treated them in a disrespectful manner.

It's just not my thing.

The final 3 candidates will be interviewed by my current PA and I'm certain he will be very honest about the role.

I think the hardest part is the social life aspect.

i need to stop reading this ... seriously, it just sounds better and better.

This would actually be an improvement on my current social life :) ... i was distraught when The Bill finished, completely ruined my saturday nights
