Equpiment change - no seat change - not a happy camper!

The problem is that on some levels the buyer cant beware due to equipment changes, lack of info at booking etc.

Can I ask what is the difference between 9D and 5D? Does it really matter? I could understand if you were bumped from J to Y or out of an exit row that you have paid for but don't you think you are being a but precious?

Sounds like you have spent hours worrying about something that means you get off the plane 1 minute later than otherwise.

Hours? Not really.

My main gripe was 23D rather than 4D - 9D to 5D was a bit of fun. I would rather be in 5D than 9D - I find the farther back you go the less structured the travellers are. Also in 9D the CSM is less likely to bring me a glass of wine from J, food is served later (though in the case of the carribean chicken that might have been a good thing).

And moving from 23D on a 767 I was essentially moved out of a row that had more leg room and no chance of a recliner to a row with less leg room and a chance of recliner.

Oh yes it does and it is so noticeable it is not funny.

I was recently in 9D (or was it 7D) on a DJ flight. It felt like my world collapsed around me. I felt so clausterphobic I was struggling to see the front of the aircraft. I would have been hyperventilating if I did not already consume 1/2 a Xanax. Serves me right for dropping below Platinum. If that happens again I am going to have to reassess my flight plans.

Now I know there were a few people in front of me that did not care where they were seated. They should have left those seats free for me....

Your humorous response illustrates my point!!!

Again, where has QF advertised skybeds on the cross-Aus flights??
Certainly they have advertised, if not guaranteed it.About Qantas - Media Room - Media Releases - Wide-Body Aircraft to Target East/West Growth
"Passengers in both cabins of the Boeing 747 between Perth and Sydney will experience Qantas' globally-renowned international service. Business passengers will experience the Skybed Business Class seats, with passengers in both cabins having personal in-flight entertainment options.

...
Did you know Qantas operates up to five weekly A330 services between Melbourne and Perth# and up to six weekly A330 services between Sydney and Perth+ featuring a full inflight service experience and Skybed in Business? ...

Speaking of QF and 'misleading' advertising, I'm reminded of the billboard at Perth Airport promoting QF's skybed service to SYD. It features a photo of a very content lady sleeping in her mark II skybed.
While on this topic, Sunday Herald Newspaper today (SYD), there was also an ad featuring the Skybed. However, there was also a * which stated that not all flights had the Skybed on East Coast - PER sectors.

I don't wish to speak for JohnK but I don't think his post was a joke.

Not referring specifically to anyone on AFF, despite the amount of travel many people do, the combination of fear of flying and/or claustraphobia is significant to the point that seating is a significant issue. I have neither of those issues and would always choose 5 over 9, or an exit row.

That is OK. Some people like to think that only the things they feel important are worthy of mention.

I have an issue and want to do the best thing I can to make my life comfortable without hurting others and sitting constantly in the middle of the aircraft with people all around me is not going to help. Yes I know business class is an ption but I cannot afford that as well as accommodation for my regular commute.

Today I was seated in row 4 on a QF 738 with a vacant middle seat and even with 1/2 Xanax before the flight it was getting a little difficult to breathe towards the end of the flight. It is not something I consciously think about and today I had nothing to fear but it just happens.

Come on mate, I can understand that people have legitimate anxiety issues and being stuck in a crowd is one of them and I know that uncomfortable feeling, but are you really telling me that being in row 4 and surrounded by P1s actually makes a difference between being in Row 9 and (shock horror) perphaps some non-status pax!!

In the OP the move was from 9D to 4D so it was never a middle seat.

You may not mind where you sit on a plane, but others may (I will not sit in a middle seat e.g.). It is hardly appropriate to belittle somebody because of that.

P1's are soothing caring pax to be around.

:p

To paraphrase a certain soccer manager:

"Seat selection is not a matter of life and death, it's much more important than that."

Some people obsess about IFE - others about seat selection.

...and I have even met people who obsess about priority boarding..........but the medication I am on is beginning to help!!! :p

I dont believe it has anything to do with P1s (nor did i note JohnK suggesting it was anything to do with P1s being in row 4), but in row 4 even if the J seat reclines there's still a lot more space (which I can attest at 6'4"). So if you're claustraphobic etc then yes, there's quite a difference between 4 and 9. Same with exit rows.

Just because you perceive no difference between 4 and 9, doesnt mean others dont. They have their reasons (eg. in my case, mostly leg room. I would summise for JohnK, it relates to the feeling of space.). I also prefer seating where i'm closer to the emergency exit (no matter how statistically unlikely I am to have to need it. My egress from 4D --> front door would be easier than 9D to 13A/F in a critical emergency.). Everyone has their reasons for any preference. For some as pointed out, it's better IFE, food, schedule, price etc. Each individual weighs up the weighting they attribute to each factor and makes their "purchase" decision.

eg. if it was all about price, everyone would just fly BFOD. If it was all about best seating, everyone would fly J (and we'd have all J carriers).

Summary: To each their own. Or in AFF speak, YMMV.
