Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card

Perhaps they had forewarning of something Coles is coming up in the same space?

Well seriously on the coles side there is not much worth switching to IMHO, while Coles form a part of the flybuys system they will be always be held back.

Example using EDR Card VS Flybuys Card only (No CC linking) the direct earn from Flybuys is a joke...

For example, to earn a $100 gift card the average user will be required to spend....
  • Flybuys Spend @ Coles / Kmart etc - $600 per week will earn one $100 gift card per year.
  • Everyday Rewards Card (Not Credit Card) spend @ Woolworths / BigW etc - $308 per week will earn one $100 gift card per year.
Now the above is a rough calculation and ofcourse a CC spend will harvest more points, also from time to time I do understand that Flybuys offer "bonus" points for purchase of specific items from time to time.

However it still has to be said, the current woolworths offering is "way ahead" of what is on offer on the "other side"

If coles have something up there sleve, then they better start moving as their current offerings are a joke indeed...

Correct. Mrs Plinge and I have been in Flybuys from the outset. I've never had anything out of it and the only 'reward' Mrs Plinge gets is barely sufficient points to cover her annual personal credit card fee. I wish I could persuade Mrs Plinge to do the weekly main shop at Woolworths but she prefers Coles and the local store is closer to home.

On the other hand Coles have gone one-up over Woolworths on insurance. I'll be looking closely at Coles insurance when Mrs Plinge's car policy falls due.

Bottom line for me: EDRCC is an unusually generous scheme and I'll be milking it for all it's worth -- while it lasts.

I think that Coles has a contract with GE Money to provide their store cards and I think that contract still has a few years to run so I can't see them issuing any new cards whilst the contract is in place, unless of course GE comes up with a new card.
The other issue is what sort of earn Coles could offer anyway, they wouldn't be likely to offer QF points as I can imagine Woolworths would have that option pretty well tied up,Virgin have their own card and Tiger don't have a FF program and aren't interested in starting one.
So for the moment it seems that Woolworths has the FF point earn market sown up.

I agree, but lets hope that Coles comes up with something new, more competition in this area is nothing but good for the consumer...

I know what you're talking about with respect to the EDR vs FlyBuys sort of thing, however I was speaking more about the CC tie-up side of things.

Thinking about things a little more, with the moves that Qantas made last year on the removal of connections with CC providers who don't 'direct sweep' to Qantas, I wouldn't be surprised if at the same time they put their feelers out to Coles and Woolworths regarding the creation of a card akin to what EDRCC is today.

Maybe after Woolworths taking the bait, they had a certain time to implement things and the result is the Online Banking / In store CS effort we are seeing today.

Hopefully they're not going to be content to sit on their laurels and we'll see a few (dare I say it) 'enhancements' to the current product.

Coles quickly followed WW with their fuel offers / service station procurement - and as Richard Goyder is a ferocious competitor - just cannot believe that Coles will not be an active participant in the CC scene.

Just look at the numbers with QFF / EDR - huge success - with Borgetti attempting to completely overhaul DJ a Coles / DJ CC would look a natural fit would it not?

"Natural Fit" yes but surely it would to some extent "cannibalise" their base of people holding,or intending on applying for,the Virgin Flyer card which they have spent so much money on promoting recently,I would think the logical move would be to link the Virgin card with Coles/Target/Kmart/Liquorland/Bunnings etc and either match or beat the QF/Woolworths earn rate.

Has anyone had problems with their card lately? I have 2 separate transactions declined today and when I called up I was told that there was an issue at HSBC's end which they rectified on the spot. I have not be told the specifics of the cause or whether it will recur. Haven't had such experience with other cards before but happy to have resolved this and being able to get through the line after a 10 minute wait. It's Christmas eve anyway, I doubt there would be many people calling the service line. :)

I got a pleasant surprise yesterday when I received a $50 wish giftcard in the mail from Woolworths as their apology for HSBC's IT glitch.

No issues but I received a call from their fraud section about 3 minutes after I used about 75% of the limit with an on line payment yesterday.
That was pleasing that someone is watching!
Just remember most of us just want the point a dollar to fly somewhere and for $89 this is my bargain.
I have been offered a deal to go to Woolies this week by not going there regularly so that is pretty good trawling of their data base!

Modified applause -- I used 96% of my limit the day I received the card and didn't hear anything. It was a card-not-present transaction too.

I paid this off the same day and it took 4 days for the payment to hit. Rather poor processing time.

Has anyone changed their PIN successfully?

I did it last night and it didn't work in an ATM, so i just did it again and using the website used my original PIN as the 'old' PIN and changed it again - So i guess the system lost the original change.

I don't really want to test it again in an ATM for fear of losing the card.

I would try, but they've locked me out of their excuse for an online banking system :)

Apparently my payment was overdue (They hadn't even sent me a statement). I've made payment, but assuming their BPAY is as slow as everyone has mentioned, i'll be waiting days until I can attempt it.

I don't even know what my original PIN is (I have it at home, just never opened the letter).

Gotta love this card :p

I also received a letter with a $50 wish card from Woolies / HSBC. My card was rejected at McDonalds on December 24th... twice lol. Thought it was strange, never ever had a declined transaction in my life. Had been drinking tho so just thought I forgot my PIN, hence the decline. Anyway, 10/10 for customer service, I never complained about the declined transactions so they must have worked it out themselves.

Here is the letter...

Well, just came home and received the card :)

Will activate, buy something, and await my 16,000 points :)

I recently received an email from Woolworths notifying me of a special offer of 10 cents/litre discount on fuel when making payment on the Woolworths Qantas Credit Card by way of ePump. Offer is limited to 200 litres between 24th Jan and 28th Feb, purchased over any number of transactions. Hence this is valued at $20. Another big plus for the card.

I got this epump 10c thing too. God knows if it actually works properly though.

I changed my card pin via the website ... all ok apparently. Turned up at the epump, swiped my card, entered my new PIN, PIN rejected .. oh.... Filled up anyway as I still had a few 4c/litre redemptions on the EDR card. Paid at the checkout, receipt says 4c/litre off so fair enough.

Got home, checked the website, it says I redeemed the 10c/litre + 4c/litre ... umm, no, not if you rejected my PIN you silly machine.

Rang EDR helpline, they suggested I try to change my PIN again via the website as their is no other way to do it - cant go to a bank branch and they can't help over the phone with it either. They are looking into why I apparently redeemed the 10c offer when the PIN was wrong ..

Its all very fancy this stuff, but really, they are overcomplicating simple purchases and are not (apparently) able to provide a consistent service with all this funky additional stuff they throw at us. The EDR CC is apparently a "Platinum" if you look at the printing on the card, but seriously WW/HSBC you're not kidding anyone with that ... its a grocery card with grocery service and functionality.

Don't get me wrong, its cheap and cheerful, the 16K free points offsets the 89$ fee to make it essentially free and the QFF direct sweep for everyday stuff will help out, but overall I'm going to try not to expect too much.

It took me 2 attempts to change my PIN. The original one still worked as the "old" PIN on the website when changing the second time.

I guess i won't get the ePump promotion since i've already been using it. I do like how easy it is, and the tax invoice via email within seconds is cute.

I'm struggling with this too. The website tells you all is "successful" when you change your PIN but it doesn't seem to stick.

Phone help simply tells you to keep trying or they can send you another random PIN by mail.... gawd!

I'm going to keep trying to use the new PIN on the EDR website until I know its stuck. If you don't do 3 or more failed PIN attempts in 24 hours you won't lose the card ....or at least thats what the CSR told me.

Together with low functionality (via the website) and extremely slow posting of credit/debit I'd be very cautious indeed before I made this card my only line of credit.

Yeah, the Commonwealth advertising instant transactions is making me jealous. I'm an ANZ customer - I can transfer from one account to another and they'll show up days apart. :(

Don't you still get the 10c/litre discount offer until 28th Feb? But you're right, you need to fix your PIN change issue first. Try changing it on the website and test it out at the shop before going back to the pump. I had no issue when I changed mine previously (ie. immediately after receiving my card).
