Mine turned up a week or so ago. I was travelling to PER a lot last year but haven't been for months and aren't likely to again for a while so won't get a chance to try it out.

The silly thing about my card (PS) is that it came with a complimentary invitation to the Qantas Club which I've been a member of for a couple of years. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. I still need to carry both cards. SYD T2 dragons (no they were quite nice really) were telling me last Thursday they'd had pax who'd thrown out their QC cards when their new PS card came, not realising they still needed both! Of course they could look it up online and it would show on your boarding pass as well.

Regardless that you are a QC Member, part of the silver status is a free invitation. so whether you use it or give it to a friend is up to you. I gave mine to my partner when she wasn't travelling with me.

It would be good for a PS if there was a notation on the card that you were a Qantas club member - perhaps a maroon circle near the OW ruby one? saves carrying two cards then.

I’m sorry if I’ve overlooked this, but why do you need to carry 2 cards, surely the magnetic stripe or barcode or even RFID tag contains the information to say you’re QP and PS. And if not, it’ll print on the ticket as "QANTAS CLUB SILVER" surely?

I just carry my QP card, but I haven’t yet hit Silver.

Why do you need to carry both cards? I only ever carried my QC card when I was silver as that covers everything that is needed at the airport including the lounge. The only extra is the bonus miles and that is worked out by the "system".

I put my complimentary pass to good use for an aunt.

When I rang QC and asked re: new cards, they advised the QC card was not going to be IQ enabled so both need to be carried. Also quite often BA/AA lounges will not give you access showing your silver card and often ask to see the proper QC card.

Ahh good point there, regarding this system it pays to have the RFID enabled card, but in the long run (once the system is rolled out properly), you’ll surely only need the QC card (I saw wording somewhere that suggested they’d get RFID too).

And as for travelling, surely just travelling with the QC card would be the way to go. After all, that OWR badge doesn’t really get you a lot…

The BA lounge dragons wont let you in unless you have the QP card (and even then have to refer to a ridiculous piece of A4 paper to work it out).

Much and all as we do not like this it is reasonable. I am sure they get a lot of people trying to weasel their way in the door without entitlement.

I also do not blame them for their 'ridiculous piece of A4 paper' as there are may variations of many FF schemes that they have to deal with and we don't want them letting any of the riff raff in now do we :!:

Whilst I agree entry rules need to be enforced, perhaps it should be automated by swipe on entry rather that a heavily photocopied a4 page which last time I was there only had qp in fine text at the bottom so they turned us away until I asked them to check and they were "sorry it's too difficult to read" as they manipulated their reading glasses.....

All airlines in the OW alliance have to use similar ticketing schemes so they’re interoperable right? So I don’t see why they couldn’t decide on a standard, such as RFID, and have all airlines offer chipped cards that can easily be scanned in any lounge to prove eligibility, and also at any check-in counter etc…

Although why they can’t just believe what is printed on the ticket after check-in too is beyond my grasp, as that’s not easily faked.

By several accounts, the genesis of this in LHR was that BP's could very easily be "faked".

I wouldn’t have thought it that easy to do and get right. Surely it has to scan properly when out into a machine and all, and the risks for faking a BP would surely be some hefty fine or jail time as it’d be a federal matter would it not?

For lounge access and some Champagne, the risk doesn’t seem worth it.

Maybe the airlines actually consider their present system to be accurate enough. :(

Not just faking. At SIN I asked them to put in my AA number and Status - at the time I was AA Platinum. They did so and then printed EMERALD on the BP...

I am a tad disappointed that my new WP card was not Q enabled - just the standard barcode card now. I was hoping that they would roll out the new cards by default to people and the targetted group were just ones that got new cards for the pilot program.

You and me both - especially since they'll be printing out another batch in a few months when the SYD NGCI goes live, which I'm sure affects a large number of renewing / new WPs who could have just been given the new card. Don't really understand the logic of having two card printing systems running side by side rather than transitioning on to the new.

So did you use the J or F lounge? :p

But the pilot program only just started. I think if all goes well by the beginning of next year if you need a new card they should be sending them out to all.

Another reason to carry both cards is that if you're flying DeathStar and want to use the T2 lounge in SYD as I did last week. I asked them to put the JQ flight details on my record as it hadn't been logged when I booked. They said there was no facility to log them any more unless I was on a JetRip-Off fare or something.
So I went into the Club with a JQ slip and two cards!

The dragons were talking a bit bolshie about the new system. They said they'd heard the system in PER was "working well" but they'd heard that the new card system was the tip of the iceberg and would eventually be used to access the lounges without the need for dragons. They also said there'd be no flight desk in the QP and got into an animated discussion about what would happen with a flight cancellation with everyone having to head to the pleb flight desk 'outside'.

I know nothing! But I was wondering if anyone knew of this rumour.
