Has anyone tried successfully to take an extra guest or two into a QP?

When my brother was QFF SG, he managed twice in a row to take 3 guests into the QP - once at Sydney T3 and again at Melbourne T1.

At Sydney he simply asked if he could take his family in and the CSR quickly and inconspicuously replied "Yeah you're right." I was surprised that it was allowed as it was a crowded Thursday evening.

At Melbourne it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. He explained that the four of us were travelling together and asked if it would be ok to admit the two extra guests. The CSR asked what time our flight was, and said that she would allow it this time but in future only one guest would be allowed as they were undergoing renovations (though it was almost empty inside).

Is there some sort of trick to pleading with the QP CSRs or is it just luck of the draw?

No tricks maybe you get lucky.
But remember if one of you is QFF Platinum then your allowed 2 guests (1 guest if gold)

Agreed, No tricks just smile and ask nicely. Generally works with most QPs, but not tried it in Adelaide (where there is a big sign saying one guest only.

PB was myself, Mrs Tooner, Sister, daughter, son and nephew all into temporary F lounge a while ago.:)

I haven't done this myself (so don't shoot me down) ... but some people have succeeded in getting additional friends into the domestic QCs by printing multiple copies of their FF Gold boarding pass and giving it to their friends, and then walking in seperate groups of two. Could be risky if the QC staff are checking cards as well as boarding passes, but I must admit it has been a long time since I have had to show my card.

Generally no probs with family in Australia ...think Qf realise that if [dad ]is away on business a lot then this is one way for family to get benefit

also most kids are well behaved
only costs QF $ 3 for some soft drink and a few biscuits

American Admiral club ok , but not as good as Qf

Dont try BA heathrow , easier to get into Buckingham Palace

I wonder if these BA staff who rejected our family now are having 2nd thoughts as they work for free for this month
we went Finnair instaed after our last rejection , much friendlier

Talking to QF on the phone, before +1 got QP, there is an informal family clause.. Family=ok...
but it is informal...

Now we have two QP and only one NB (who is 4 so it would be very impressive if she could guest us!!)

I think that's a little unfair, they are just doing their job and following the published rules.

I've generally found asking nicely gets you places.

In Perth once they allowed us to bring my partners mum in. There was already my daughter and my partner.

In Adelaide I had a stopover back to Melbourne and my mate met me for a few drinks (he lives right near the airport). Anyway i asked if his wife and son could join us and he said no worries at all (there was only about 7 of is in the QP)

In Beijing i got about 4 people into the lounge there..

I've been knocked back in perth before too.

I think it just depends on you luck on the day

I've had three experiences with extra guests into the QP - two positive and one negative :)

The positive - As an SG I already had a guest in the QP and a colleague without status arrived later and had me paged - they waved him in with me (Syd T3).

At Syd Int QP was allowed a guest who was travelling on a different flight to me (BA not QF) but to the same destination but told not to expect it again - firmly but very politely.

The negative - Smiling and asking very nicely if an extra colleague could join me in the Cairns QP I was rejected - perfectly understandable it was the middle of the day and busy but felt it didn't hurt to ask :)

I definitely appreciate the staff have rules to adhere to and don't mind cases outside the rules being turned down and feel lucky when they're flexible :)

Anyone had any luck with the current QF Flounges? I am travelling on Christmas day 2009 with Jetstar to DPS. Me (SG) Wifey (WP) and mother in law (no status).

Normally wifey gets us both into the Flounge. This time we have the mother in law. I think my chances might be enhanced being Christmas day? If not off to the J lounge for me, wifey and her mum into the Flounge.

Hi everyone,

I have elderly parents that are travelling and they are on CX, does anyone know if QF club passes are ok for Sydney airport for them to use? On that does anyone have 2 to spare I can buy. I am a QF club member but havent done much travelling lately so am only ordinary member but could use the help if anyone has spare passes, as I dont have. Appreciate any advice and help. Cheers Paris

As posted in the other thread.

As far as I am aware complimentary Qantas Club passes are only valid when travelling with Qantas and Jetstar in a Qantas Lounge.

In saying that it is possible that you may be allowed in to the Qantas Lounge on a CX flight but also be prepared to be turned away.

I (WP) have been successfull on all 3 occasions I have tried to get self, wife and 2 daughters (15 and 11) into the FLounges, including both MEL and SYD. These were not at particularly quiet times, but the lounges were not overflowing. I would feel fairly confident that you should be ok on xmas day (rely on that festive spirit). Good luck :).

Re man thrown out of QP

I was in the Sydney Qantas Club lounge Monday morning and about 6:00am the customer service desk attendant chased a man away from the counter and told him if he didn't get out he would call security to throw him out.
Wow! I couldn't believe what I had seen. Wonder how often they get pests trying it on.

Travelling with my sister in law and cousin (all of us in our late 20s if it makes a difference) last month, I was a bit sneaky and went in with SIL, and 20 minutes later walked out and collected the cousin after she did some shopping. Felt very guilty, still do! But didn't want to leave one person out, and didn't want to sit around the jetstar terminal for 3 hours :(

Next time I'll just ask! I assumed they followed the rules to a T (mind you since I was starclass AND QP member, I probably could've argued they both entitled me to a guest!)

Flying *class doesn't entitle you to a guest, only entry for yourself.

I was able to have extra guests into QF lounges a few times.

1. Adelaide QP: After my parents and I got in (with dad using the complimentary pass), I asked the service desk to check if they could change my sister's and her partner's seats so we could sit close together. The person manning the desk asked me where my sister and her bf were, so I said they were waiting outside... She said "You can ask them to come in". A nice surprise.

2. Canberra QP: I wondered if my partner's best friend could come in the lounge, to which they said no. Hence I volunteered to stay out instead. The manager then waved us in, adding "Anything for love". Very sweet.

3. London J lounge: I guested my colleague who's on a different flight (QF2 and QF10) into the QF/BA lounge. No questions asked.

4. Singapore J lounge: Having 3 travel companions, I had planned to guest 1 person, who'd then have a shower and get out, then the 2nd person coming in etc. The ladies at the desk asked for our 4 BPs and let us all in. They were very much appreciated.

All in all though, I see all these positive experiences as karma. I have invited others (fellow pax) to the lounges before. The most memorable person was this mature lady, who was on her way to CPH (via LHR), and seemed a bit lost at SIN during transit. So I invitied her into the J lounge, and she was very happy and suprised(after asking why I chose her and what the J lounge was about). Her trip got even better as she later got op-uped to Y+ at the boarding gate.
