EY Apartments vs. LH First Class

Thanks, great prep for my flight. In the 'beauty parlour', with all those operators standing around, I wonder if I would be able to get another 15 mins and so on until, or do they prefer to all just stand around...

I don't think I'll be able to eat all that food that you had - very impressive, or was that just for the photos? ;)

EY don't have F lounge in AUH, instead they have an F section inside the very big J lounge.

I was very hungover after the 14hr free-flowing champagne flight so all I had in the lounge was lots of coffee and water trying to recover :)

The lounge has Six Senses Spa inside which offers a list of complementary treatments.

First class pax can also enjoy complementary haircut, shave or manicure at the Style salon.

This is the first time I've seen a beauty salon inside an airline lounge, very cool!

Unfortunately I had my haircut and shave just before the flight so the only thing left was manicure. I've never done that before and after finally trying it I can say for sure I'll never do this awkward thing again! Lol

I can't speak for F, but when we flew J back in January I believe the first service was complimentary and subsequent services could be purchased from their menu at reasonable prices.

Six senses spa was very busy because the 15 min treatment is completely to both J and F pax so I doubt you will be able to get more than one treatment. The photo where you see people stand around is from Style salon where only F pax get complementary treatment that's why it wasn't too busy.

I mixed up photos of meals from both flights so it's not that much food to have in total period of 24hr in the air :)

Let's move on to Lufthansa.

I was excited to try LH F for the first time but maybe even more excited about their FRA ground services.

Although my flight was scheduled for 5:55pm I decided to spend the night before at Sheraton FRA airport (connected via bridge to the terminals) so can make the most of what my F ticket has to offer.

Ok so I have a bucket list of stuff I want to do at least once in my life. One of those things is to drive a high performance car on the Autobahn, any motorhead's dream.

Avis has an agreement with Lufthansa offering LH F, LX F pax and HON members to book a Porsche at FRA for three hours or 150km include petrol and insurance for €99.

Sure anyone can rent Porsche in the USA or even here in Australia for about $500 per day but considering speed limits are set at 110kph it's a bit pointless.

So I got up early on the day excited to go and pick up my car which I booked online a week ago. The booking process was very easy, just need to make sure to present TWO credit cards for deposit (gold or higher) and it's recommend to have the boarding pass as well so before going to pick up the car I went to check in.

The lady who issued my BP was kind enough to call Avis and let them know I'm coming.
Can't say the check in process was anything special, certainly nothing like SQ in SIN but it was fast and efficient, very German!

Went down two floors and walked towards rental cars area. When I got to Avis there were three long queues of people waiting patiently. All the staff were busy with customers so what should I do? Should I play DYKWIA cut the queues and say "hey, I'm here to pick up my Porsche"? somehow it didn't feel right doing that in Germany :)
so I waited about 20 minutes until my turn came and then it took another 15 minutes to complete all the necessary forms. On this package access fee is down only to €1,500 and can't be reduced to 0 even for extra pay. After my two CCs were swiped for deposits I was finally given the key.

Avis very kindly put a list or recommend routes on it's website to maximise the three hours experience.
I've downloaded the route that seemed to have the most stretches of highway, after all I'm here for the speed not for the scenery ;)

01450829848.jpeg

I kindly asked one of the staff to insert the route into the car's GPS and equally as important, change the language to English.

All set ready to go :)

01450829869.jpg

Took my time to adjust to the car and driving on the left side while cruising at comfortable speeds of 150-160kph. That was until I noticed all kind of cheap Japanese cars shamelessly passing by me at incredible speeds. Then I finally understood it's time to man up and pressed the accelerator all the way down :)
Hard to describe the feeling but all I can say is no amusement park in the world (and I've been to some wild ones) can match the adrenaline rush.

Doing a pit stop near the Opel factory.

01450830055.jpg

The problem with driving so fast is that 150km finish very quickly. I could keep going a bit more (the rate is €0.99 per km after the first 150) but instead decide to go back and check the F lounge.

Soooo jealous!!! Love it.. Thanks Boomy :)

I tried to return the car at the first class terminal as advised by Avis but somehow I've managed to take the wrong turn so eventually returned it at the same location I took it earlier. The Avis guy checked the car thoroughly and finally gave me the the all clear, phew!

Went back to LH, asked where is the main F lounge and was directed to terminal B.

01450855462.jpg

Not sure if this is the main F lounge as there are quite a few in FRA but anyway this one will do :)

Lufthansa first class lounge.

At the entrance I was greeted by sharp looking bloke who scanned my BP and took me for a short tour.
The lounge isn't very big but it surely looks impressive!

01450855833.jpg

01450855870.jpg

The place was almost empty, only two pax and quite a few bored staff members. It's worth noting that only HON circle, LH and LX F pax can access this lounge so highly unlikely it will ever get too busy.

Check out this bar:
Did anyone see such a well stocked bar in any other airline lounge? Amazing!

01450856329.jpg

It's not only the quantity but also plenty of high quality spirits from all over the world.

Great report Boomy! What were the champagne choices at the lounge?

Just for you Uppy, the champagne and wine menu :)

Whiskey menu

There was also bourbon, rum and coughtails menu. By far the most extensive alcohol selection I've seen in any lounge, ever!

Thanks Boomy :)
So what are you going to do? Surely you can't limit yourself to 2 glasses here ;)

I've went for the Xmas special.

Forgot to take photo of the chestnut soup, instead took this one of some stuff I helped myself from the self-serve food bar.
Which wine should I drink while in Germany?
Riesling off course!

The meal was excellent, top restaurant quality.

Believe me, I end up drinking more than I'm willing to admit :D

This was a rare case where I was pretty sure drinks in the lounge are at least equal if not better than onboard ;)

After the meal I was presented with another menu. At any other place the logic says it would be coffee and tea menu, maybe some dessert wine.
But not in LH F, here I got a cigar menu!

01450863056.jpg

Yes, they have cigar room in the lounge, how cool is that!

01450863084.jpg

And it's all complementary :)

01450863117.jpg

They have a drinks bar just for the cigar room!

01450863167.jpg

What can I say, this is the only way to fly... ;)

01450863284.jpg

OK, that's EXACTLY like I imagined the LH F FRA experience to be. But will wait to see if the on-board F experience is also great.

Wow. I'm gonna have to work toward LH F flights. And, a whiff of cigar is evocative (but cigarette smoke is horrible).

BTW, is this a points bkg?

In case all that eating, drinking and smoking gets too tiring for some pax LH organised resting rooms with full size beds for comfortable rest.

01450868488.jpg

Good substitute to hotel for day-connections.

I felt like taking a shower but instead of using one of the shower rooms I went for the larger rooms which have jet bathtub plus shower.

01450868512.jpg

The real reason I took the large room was for the LH duckies :)

Highly appropriate Christmas duckies.
