Great report Boomy.
What speed did you get up to in the 911 ?.
Did you think or did it feel like it had a limiter on it ?.
Was there a maximum allowable speed in the insurance paperwork ?.

About to board EY F AUH-JFK on A380. Currently in the lounge at 1am and it is absolutely packed. Six senses and shave are are complimentary for F pax and only timeframe permitted. Booking is out to 2 hours ahead now and some idiots doing DYKWIA because they only just got there and expected to be done in the next 30 mins. We came in at 6am on the B789 BNE-AUH in J and we had free wifi so surprised you didn't have it. Was very nice J but bed was pretty thin and hard and no mattress. I took almost the same photos as you guys so no point posting them.

Did you get your UM problem sorted?

Not exactly sure what happened. Got a call 22 hrs from flight time saying it was all fixed and new tickets were issued. Filled out all the UM paperwork and got call from Etihad saying all approved about 6hrs beforehand. Got to airport and the manager asks if we really want to be UM and we said no. Basically that was it. A FA kept an eye on them. In AUH now and they didn't even ask. Was it all a storm in a tea cup ? Did the problem ever exist? Even got access to arrivals lounge and first departure lounge when we should have with all the kids. 24 hrs out I put tix on hold with AA on same flights so stopped worrying after that.

I waited about 20 minutes until my turn came and then it took another 15 minutes to complete all the necessary forms. On this package access fee is down only to €1,500 and can't be reduced to 0 even for extra pay. After my two CCs were swiped for deposits I was finally given the key.

Loving this TR! So the excess is 1500 Euros? How much was the deposit? Was there a reason for using two ccs?

I understand it's included in the Whiskey menu for completeness but to see JW Red listed makes me cringe.

Spectacular report so far boomy, looking forward to the LH F write up.

I'm looking for a reason (and time) to go to Fra ;)...at the moment, I can't find an answer to either :(

Yes, excess is €1,500 (can't be reduced).
Didn't notice how much was the deposit, I'm just happy none of the cards was charged :)

I suppose the reason for 2 CCs is back up in case one of them doesn't hold sufficient funds

After getting out from the shower I've noticed I was all alone in the lounge so I sat on the bar and had a chat with the nice barman who is originally from Denpasar. He said the lounge is normally busy in the morning and quiet in the afternoon. Now I understand how come they can offer so many high quality drinks, because there is no one around to consume them :p

The barman was clearly bored and when he noticed my affection to single malts he started opening different bottles and offered me to sample some less known brands. Then we moved to bourbon and then to cognac... I was in heaven and didn't want to leave :D

But all good things must come to an end.
A gentle tap on my shoulder and it was the lounge manager who informed my flight is boarding and it's time to go.
Walking to the plane didn't sound like a fun thing to do after all that drinking but fortunately LH found a solution for that 1st world problem. LH F pax don't walk to the boarding gate, instead they are chauffeur driven to the aircraft!

Going down via lift located in the lounge there was a Porsche Cayenne waiting just for me.

What can I say, it was the ultimate VIP service. Lufthansa surely know how to treat their F pax on the ground.

Wow. All round very impressive. That whisky list especially so. The LH F lounge wine list looked very pedestrian though.

"very pedestrian" sounds a bit harsh... I don't think I've seen anything much better than this in an airline lounge? BA terminal 5 Heathrow is also very good.. Can you think of better ones?

I thought I had seen good lounges...apparently not. Just fantastic, especially the cigar lounge

As far as lounges go, its not bad. Although Krug in the QR J lounge in DOH does trump this.

My comment was more in terms of wine in general, rather than in comparison to other airline lounges. Nothing on that wine list is overly "up there" in the world of wine.

A short summary of LH F lounge before moving on to the onboard review:

When reading in Australia about lounge ratings and awards we may think QF and CX have the best lounges in the world. While they are very good lounges indeed, LH F is up there in a league of it's own.

I will stop short of saying it's the best lounge in the world just because I haven't been yet to AF F lounge in CDG and QR F lounge in DOH, two more lounges that allow entry only to their own F pax and supposed to be outstanding as well.

LH B748 F

Once entering the F cabin my first impression was the seats are too exposed.

This design seemed outdated compared to other leading airlines. I wasn't expecting an apartment but IMO LH should have gone for mini suites similar to what TG did in their B747s for a bit more privacy feeling.

Having said all that, the seats are specious and very comfortable. LH managed to create luxury atmosphere with minimalistic design.

Speaking about privacy, I started wondering where are the rest of the pax? Before I had time to finish that thought the lovely CSM and two FAs came to introduce themselves and said I'm going to be the only pax in F today. Well isn't that nice? I've experienced some low occupancy F cabins before but never had one all to myself!
Makes everything I said before sound a bit silly now as I ended up having more privacy on LH then I had on EY :D

Pre-departure drinks.

Didn't really need more booze after 4 hours in the F lounge but there is always room for champagne :)

LH has the famous Rimowa amenity kits, silver for men and gold for women.

Inside amenities by 'la prairie'. Never heard about them but +1 says they are very good.

One of the FAs suggested to make the bed before departure on the seat next to me and also added an extra mattress for maximum comfort.

Slowly I begin to understand why the Lufthansa service is so well regarded.
