Fair to be paying for an overweight passenger?

What about the big frame footy player who does not have any fat who takes up "extra" space?.
Long been known that Y passengers are subsidised by J. Should that subsidy end?
Would be interesting wouldn't it - the fat coughd gouty quaffing snorer in J subsidising the skinny vegetarian in Y:cool:

All we need is a mod to step in and close it down. Interesting to see that the OP opened this can of worms and is now sitting back and most probably watching us all self destruct

Well I for one am very impressed with the OP's ability.

It truly is a skilled person indeed that heads out Barra fishing one night and reels in numerous Marlin by morning!

If they had to weigh him first I doubt the scales would survive ;-)

Maybe, but it is still fun.

To the OP, who's entire platform is one allegedly based on a strictly "scientific" or "logical" basis of the cost of moving mass, I ask the following question: Do you also want this practice to be applied to taxi fares? Transport by vehicle also is a mass-moving exercise, where a "fat" passenger does actually cost more in fuel to move from A to B. In your "user-pays" wonderland, do you acknowledge that skinny taxi passengers are unfairly subsidizing fat rides?

Re: User Pays

I was just imagining a terminal full of scales to weigh people. Now, I realise that for the Scottevest folks, they may need to install a weighbridge :)

I remember a flight back in the 1970s, flying out of Vanuatu, the plane was delayed, so we sat in the pub drinking, really high winds, so before boarding they were weighing all the passengers to make sure the had enough fuel to get us back to Sydney, my sister had had a lot of wine to drink, and refused to get weighed. So I told the girl to weigh me twice - those were the days when weighed 45 kgs !

Re: Two reasons I can't take Virgin & Velocity seriously

Im tall and am sick of having my knees stuck in the back of the seat in front of me-should I take the airline to court demanding more room?
No, you become WP and get Economy X for free or pay for J? I get 69kg of free luggage in Y and 96kgs of free luggage in J, considering I weigh approx 88kg can I only pay for 19kgs of me in Y and can I please have a 8kg refund in J?

Excuse me, us larger than normal people are offended by being called fat
Sorry, I forgot that they like to be called 'stout'

I need the know how post one, where JohnK was talking about olives , and his wife's predilection for removing inedible food from VA flights, by putting it in her pocket led us to this discussion about fat people ? But more importantly, why does she remove the food and tLe it home if it's inedible ? Or is there a dog that eats anything waiting there? ..... just curious.

My early post was because the OP posted in the Virgin Aust section-it did seem odd at the time:lol:

It was split off from another thread on Virgin.

The wife brings the snack home to me. Plus once the FA has handed her a snack she'll not hand the snack back as she would conside4 that rude. Not the end of the world taking the snack.

The question is should the extra charge you pay for being heavier than average be proportional to your fare (the higher the fare the higher the charge for weight - like it is on Ryanair or Easyjet for checked baggage) or a flat fee based on distance (like it is on Tiger and Jetstar for checked baggage). And should it cost more if you don't prebook it and only weigh in heavy at the airport? :-)

When I was 13 years old, Andre The Giant picked me up with one hand and held me over his head. That was a long way up!

We both know that's not true.
To (politely) hand it back is never rude.
But hey , it's fine to take it home too.
