Family Pooling update

It's just a hassle to have to keep remembering to switch it back and forth all the time. Having it pool to one person and then being able to "draw down" on the SCs, or transfer them back would have been easier. I can see people getting upset here when they forget to change it and miss out on status. Will need to be vigilant at keeping up to date with SC balances - although I guess people are good at that around here!
If you perceive value in the process of working out when to change, then you'll be all over it and it won't be a hassle. If your spouse (and/or kids) perceives similar value, then they're going to be on your case and will help you maximise the switches ;)

You're on the money with the last sentence - we will have debated it here and learnt how to maximise the potential earning. Others who happen to read about it in arrears will be disappointed.

Why else would they have done a soft launch. They don't want too many pax knowing it's there ;)

'Members of a family' is not defined?

Does this cover engaged couples living together? Same sex?

Immediate family members living under the same roof. I would class your partner as immediate family, but a flat mate is not.

Legal definition I'd assume......defacto yes, same sex.......perhaps not, but not a debate I envy DJ having to deliberate on

Hmmm, I thought the explanation in the T&C's was pretty explicit:

6.28.4 The Beneficiary Account and Contributing Accounts must be held by Members of a family living at the same residential address.

So as long as you have up to 4 family members living at the same residental address, you have the full compliment, so long as they all meet the 3 previous rules as well.

6.28.1 Up to two Members of the Pool may be 18 years or over in age.
6.28.2 Up to four Members of the Pool may be under 18 years of age.
6.28.3 If a Member of a pooling relationship turns 18 years of age and results in the Pool having three Members 18 years or older, they are required to remove themselves from the pool.

I am fortunate - me, wife + 2 kids under 18. Thankfully, you don't have to include the M-i-L as she wouldn't be eligible :o

I think it's been well thought out. It allows for single parent + 3 kids, or for larger families, multiple family pooling (as 6.28.2 allow that all members of a pool can be minors).

I agree. I thought it to the point as well.

One note. If your mother-in-law, or any other parent for that matter, lives with you you cannot include them. There is a maximum of two adults over the age of 18 allowed in any pool. The pool includes the recipient. So you and your wife only. :( You can throw a few kids into the mix though as you said.

Ahh. You just said that. I need to slow down and read things properly.

No, I was actually in the middle of re-writing it with further thoughts (the last sentence) when you posted your comment Jama. Great minds think alike...

The pool can actually have upto 6 members 1 beneficiary + 5 contributors. So 2+4, as per 6.28, 6.28.1 and 6.28.2

medhead, I stand corrected, I hadn't read the first sentence properly:

All Members are entitled to participate in a Family Pooling arrangement for Points or Points and Status Credits consisting of one Beneficiary Account and up to five Contributing Accounts (Family Pool).

So as you say 2 adults (1 beneficiary and 1 contributing) and up to 4 kids under 18 (all contributing).

Hmm, I have space for two more kids then in my Family Pool - but the wife and I don't want any more kids (and certainly not twins, as my family is pre-disposed to them). We're just too old to go through it all again ...

Oops didn't mean to interject with corrections  More of a question to make sure I was reading it properly.

Sounds like we're in the same boat wrt twins, and size of available family pool.

 You did the right thing to interject with corrections, otherwise others may have been misled. I am glad you did. I'm not beyond being corrected

medhead, we have something in common :shock::cool:;)

I can help you out there! I have two spare kids who can contribute to your family pool that I'd be happy to set up for you.........of course they will have to live under your roof according to VA  ........... couldn't possibly think of breaking the rules! ;)

So now the question is: Does Lindsay Wilson have two spare bedrooms? Lol

Well no, but I have 3 fold out double beds from which they could choose.

Has anybody maximised their family pooling by installing 5 contributors? One decent family trip could get you a long way to Gold

So could I just what the correct procedure is to set it up?

Should the beneficiary setup the Pool while being logged into their account (3 step process) or should it be the contributer setting it up from their account?

My sister is travelling on a return SIA flight which I would like credited to Velocity and then transferred to me (SC's and points). Otherwise not worth booking with a Virgin partner.

The person who wants to pool their points to you, does it from their account. They just enter your FF account number and name in their 'pool' page. Remember to make sure you guys have the same address on your accounts.

I concur with jazza1971. The pooled must authorise the transfer (pooling) from their account to the recipient account.

So in my situation, I had to sign in separately to my wifes' and kids' accounts and enter my account number. Took about 5 mins.
