Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Due to a couple of flights at the pointy end,
I have seen D Goodrem and M Gale in the past month :) while flying in J

Ah, wondered about this thread the other day.

Domestically, sat in Row 2 , opposite and behind former Senator Graham Richardson (in 1C) coming back from MEL (or was it SYD?) a couple of weeks ago. He was quiet, read a book and was a bit miffed at the guy behind leaning over the seat and introducing himself.

I'd forgotten about this thread!

In November I flying NRT-JFK aboard NH10, when on my way back to 2A from the rest-room I noticed a very familiar face in 1A - it was none-other than Shigekatsu Katsuda, AKA Chairman Kaga from 'Iron Chef'.

I am somewhat disappointed to report that there was nary a sequin, ruffle or flamboyantly tassled jacket to be seen.

Cool, I love the show, but hate the US over-dramatisation. Give me Kat Cora as my personal chef though :D;)

The US version is terrible.

Seems that a lot of people think Chairman Kaga is a real person - my other half (The Spending Machine) was devastated when confronted with the truth!

I'd like to have Sakai as my personal chef, but I have a feeling I'd be in hospital with severe coronary artery disease within a month.

Agree, I love the original Japanese version...if only I knew more Japanese and it didn't have the vioceover translation :o

Nah the US version is much better (IMO).
Anyway back to the topic,I have sat next to Peter Costello on a CBR-MEL flight, and been in the next row behind Rolf Harris on a SYD-LHR flight (that was in PE).

Did you notice the difference, Peter had the wobble board

Hrm I think I posted on the FT thread about this but apparently not here.

Over the past 10 years i've...

- Run into just about every Big Brother housemate on a plane or at an airport including the very annoying Nathan (Nova Radio Presenter in Perth now) who wandered down the aisle of the plane declaring at the top of his voice "Yes! It's me! Yes I'm Nathan from BB!". What a tool.
- Caroline Ried aka Pam Ann at the T4 A/C in October (and subsequently seated in row 3 with her on a flight)
- Ray Martin on a DOM J flight
- Molly Meldrum on a DOM J flight
- Various actors from Neighbours in the MEL and SYD QP (this was pre-J lounge days)
- Adam Savage from Mythbusters on a LAX-LAS flight in October

I'm sure there are more but I just don't recall them all. Too many flights at bad hours when i'm too tired to pay attention!

Another fan of Sakai.Loved his restaurant in Tokyo.Have also been to those of Chen Kenichi,Michiba and Morimoto's first USA restaurant in Philly in 2002.Yes we are fans of the program.:)

Did he ask you who made your paper hat?
- Molly Meldrum on a DOM J flight
Was he wearing his hat, or was it in the overhead bin?

Had he by chance stolen Jamie's hat (or beret to be specific) and brought it with him?

Sorry, with three people who I can make hat references about I couldn't resist. If you didn't get the first one, go digging through 90's drive radio shows for this obscure reference.

Love to meet Jamie or Adam in the flesh, Mythbusters is one of those must watch shows. Makes for great lunchtime fare on the macbook at work.

No but he did pull me from the audience during the ad break:P

Hat-on, surprisingly.

He had his Akubra on actually, which he took off once on board (he was up in F, one of the few flights I was actually down the back of the bus in the US).

The sad part is, I know the show and the sketch exactly. I just miss them from the D-Gen and The Late Show in the late 80's/early 90's.

Sat next to journalist and TV presenter George Negus whilst onboard SYD-MEL yesterday.

We exchanged courtesies at the beginning and end of the flight (with a handshake at the end), however the rest of the time we kept to ourselves, with George reading the paper and several magazines. I figured that he must be between assignments or trying to keep abreast of what's going on for his next assignment. So it seemed only fair to give him some time for himself. Besides, what kind of educated small talk could I possibly offer that could pique his interest?

This morning in the CX Wing F Lounge (at HKG) I saw Jamie Oliver and his entourage... He was using one of the PCs in the lounge.

Jamie actually tweeted something about the CX lounges being odd this morning. I've never been in one, so no idea what he was talking about.

Seen Dr. harry the vet in the QP at MEL a few years ago...

other than that, i don't think i have ever seen another celeb on board when i've flown. probably more to do with the fact i tend to do late flights out of MEL to PER and always in Y...
