Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Jules Lund from Getaway sat at a table next to us at the Qantas International J lounge Melbourne a few years back...... Since then nobody else.

I sat at the table next to the former Treaurer of Australia, at the Perth Hilton Globe Bar around midday. Heard all about his new consulting business he is running :-|

Almost had the Premier of South Australian, Mike Rahn, shake my hand by mistake last night. Took QF flight PER/ADL and sat in 3D alongside two (French?) gentlemen in 3AC. As we walked up the top of the gangway, Mike Rahn was waiting there with a minder. They were there to greet the other two gentlemen who walked out behind me as I heard "Welcome to South Australia".

Now who will be on my flight in J this afternoon ADL/SYD??

There to help the campaign?;)
Well as long as you didn't roll up your Qantas magazine and hit him over the head all's well.:lol:

Seated in the row ahead on a red-eye LAX-JFK was Jenifer Love Hewitt. She was just mixing amongst her friends and didn't really stand out to many others. Although she sure covered up on arrival into NY.

Sat next to journalist and TV presenter George Negus whilst onboard SYD-MEL yesterday.

We exchanged courtesies at the beginning and end of the flight (with a handshake at the end), however the rest of the time we kept to ourselves, with George reading the paper and several magazines. I figured that he must be between assignments or trying to keep abreast of what's going on for his next assignment. So it seemed only fair to give him some time for himself. Besides, what kind of educated small talk could I possibly offer that could pique his interest?

George was seated BEHIND me in business last week SYD-MEL courtesy of a beeping boarding pass (gotta love 'em!)

Phoenix to LA in early 90's - sat across the aisle from a 'big' star - Kirk Douglas!

Also saw Helen Mirren in the BA lounge in Stockholm.

I've seen Gina Riley a couple of times - once on a CBR-SYD run (seat 1A, I only noticed because she and the person travelling with her were the last to board).

The other time was in the SYD T3 J lounge. I thought she'd be in the CL area...

I've also seen Julian someone (ex-cricketer, now commentator for Fox) and Christine O'Hern (Melb-based Channel 9 reporter). We were all on the same SYD-MEL flight (pure luck), Julian and I were in J (I was op-up'ed) and Christine was in Y.

Another person I've seen was one of the Australian cricket team selectors - not sure what his name was (actually, I don't think he's a selector now). He wasn't the one with a caterpillar on his face. This was also on a SYD-CBR run.

I might have also seen the infamous Paris Hilton once in LAX T4 Flagship. Not entirely sure because she'd one of those huge sunglasses that covered half her face, but she did have a few people in tow and the staff was especially looking after her.

Edited to add: Thinking back, I've also seen Robbie Deans a couple of times. But that was back in NZ when he was coaching a decent rugby team. ;)

So it could be one of these guys - as you have taken Boonie out of the picture. Not sure that Merv still has quite the handlebar any more.

Saw Wally Lewis in the QP (Pleb side) in BNE on Thursday last week, or was it Tuesday?

Saw him on a SYD-BNE flight a few years ago too. That was the one which had Steve Waugh on the return leg.

While we're on a sports theme...

Saw Anthony Mundine earlier today on BNE-SYD by himself, travelling in J. Kept a low profile under his baseball cap. I think it was Anthony Mundine anyway.

Also saw Matthew Hayden in the BNE J lounge one time. Saw him on TV later that day playing a T-20 charity game.

Geoff Dixon sat behind me from BNE to SYD yesterday afternoon so obviously the ex-CEO didn't get an automatic entitlement to row 1 in his exit package... :)

I had forgotten about this thread.

Sat next to Lady Cutler, widow of Sir Roden Cutler Roden Cutler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , PER-SYD a few weeks ago.

It would rate as one of the best flights I have even taken, I am normally against chatting to people but she was delightful. Full of stories about her life and her late husbands. She once worked for QF and then for AN in the Golden Wing clubs management team.

The 3 hour flight was not long enough.

Over the years Michael Jackson (MEL -SYD in the late 80's), Barry Humphries, Isla Fisher, Peter Garrett.

Last month in Melb QP, Stuart McGill. In his enthusiasm to reach the food he elbowed a woman out of the way, and then put on an exhibition of frenzied eating (like he hadn't seen food for quite some time):p
