Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Melbourne Tigers basketball team on my ADL-MEL flight this evening (a 738). They all sat down near the back of Y, including all 7' 1" (213 cm?) of Chris Anstey, who had to bend down to cross the divider between J and Y! While walking past me his head was about 1cm from the cabin ceiling!

The other half saw the winner of the latest series of Australian Idol at the ADL QP reception yesterday. Unfortunately I was oblivious as I hadn't been following Idol this year.

Actually, Charlie Boorman knocked on the door of my room in the Cairns Hilton last week, but realised he had chosen the wrong room when I answered the door.

I had seen him briefly in the Exec Lounge the night before and had read that he was in Cairns on some R&R before going up to Japan, so I wished him all the best. He looked a little bemused as the person he was meant to find walked up from their room, two door up.

Flew with Melbourne Storm after their Grand Final loss in 2008 and they were all perfect gentlemen. They were quiet and well behaved. Take note other sports teams!

Also flew on a UA flight from LAS to LAX with Richard Simmons who was helping the FA with their safety demonstration. Hilarious! He even got a special thank you when we landed from the crew!

If you fly on weekends you are sure to run into AFL, NRL or Super 14 teams when the competitions are on. Port Power (AFL) were all through Sydney airport the Sunday before last.
I seem to see Boony every second time I fly!

Saw Brisbane Lion Players heading to/awaiting at the gate my SYD-MEL 734 docked at on Saturday. The aircraft (734) was scheduled to head back to BNE.

After seeing footballers cram into WHY seats I considered that maybe Qantas are trying to schedule 734s with the 37" pitch for rows 1 to 6 and WHY from row 4 for these generally larger than average guys. With exit rows, there's at least 30 WHY seats with extra pitch.

Sat next to Rachel Hunter LAX-AKL once - She was really nice. Some Essendon players on their way to Vegas on a footy trip MEL-LAX upper deck. A few politicians... That's about it. I'm cough at recognizing famous people usually.

Spoke to Brad Pitt at NCE briefly, in between him shouting at his minders - I assume because they made him fly commercial!

Seen Helen Clark & John Key many times at AKL.

Sat behind Rob Fyfe on AKL-NPE once (he was in row 1 )

I'm absolutely gobsmacked at this thread!! Not one person has reported seeing me! Damn - how more famous can I get? I'm a legend in my own lunchtime!

Spotted Michelle Timms across the aisle from me on a domestic flight back in her playing days.

A few years ago I was sprinting for the Skybus at MEL when something about a tall, distinguished-looking elderly gent caught my eye. I looked up (... and up... I'm about 4 foot nothing and he's several feet taller) to see former PM Gough Whitlam alongside luggage trolley; must have been waiting for his driver. (I know, I know.... politicians aren't counted as famous on this thread...but possibly our Gough now counts as Elder Statesman?! Besides, his government abolished tertiary fees - for a brief time in our history - enabling this peasant to gain a degree.)

Well today the Kangaroos and all their minders were flying J on QF2.We were on the upper deck with several of them.spoke to Alfie Langer as a fellow Caloundra Celeb;).Actually there were good.In the BKK lounge those that used a phone did so in the phone area unlike a few suits:mad:.
To top it all off at the SOTP went up in the lift with Hulk Hogan. Was surprised to see in the papers his injury earlier in the day-absolutely no sign of it this evening :lol:

Last november I shared an A380 trip from LAX to MEL with Collingwood FC. As much as we all hate Collingwood I must say there was no sign of bad behaviour, and the whole team was flying Y!

Yeah - always a tough luck story when put in for a points upgrade and cop a footy team (who change flights/book at late notice) and they take up 30+ J seats.

My first international flight in 1992 SYD-BKK-FRA with LH had Paul Mercurio on it (the year Strictly Ballroom launched, and I saw it for the first time in Germany). Saw him exiting the flight at ungodly hour in BKK. I chose not to try to talk to him/get his photo, as I thought surely he was feeling as cough as I was. That was before I'd seen what J/F was like compared to whY.

Saw the American actor who plays the councilman and marijuan_ seller in Weeds at the AA club in T4 a few years ago.

Assorted footballers in QP and on flights on weekends BNE-SYD-BNE.

Guy Sebastian from Aus Idol in J QP at SYD three weeks ago.

Saw a girl I *thought* was a former America's Next Top Model entrant or winner in LAX this year or last year. Not really sure she'd qualify as a celeb. :P

Craig McLachlan was very gentlemanly at the bar (and shorter than I thought!) at the QP in Brisbane domestic, oh, I guess last year? Before the J lounge at BNE was open.

I have kissed Craig McLachlan :D

I went to a foxtel talk show filming in Sydney a few years ago and when Craig learnt I had come from Canberra he insisted that I kiss him in a break giggity giggity :D. Tongue and all...

I was fortunate enough to be hosted by a supplier at the US Masters last year. On our flight back (LAX-BNE) Stuart Appleby was in the 1st Class lounge at LAX and was happy to sign some stuff and pose for a photo.

The usual collection of Aussie sportsmen around the country. Steve Mortimer was a favourite, I literally left the boarding queue to get his autograph. Showing my age there I think.

It doesn't count here because it was a private charter but I have a photo of my Mother sitting on Snoop Dogg's knee.

My most recent brush with celebrities was last Tuesday flying SYD-MEL on QF.

I sat next to Luke Mangan (Leading Chef/Restaurant Owner) and on the opposite side of the aisle was Sam Kekovich (Former AFL Player, Media Personality).

The usual brushes with celebrity are the rugby league and union teams, especially on TT flights. Often encounter the rugby union referees as well.

I recall sitting next to Ian Smith (Harold from Neighbours) in the MEL Air NZ lounge years ago and more recently in the LAX AA First lounge the ever delightful Joan Rivers came an sat next to us.

Oh, I shouldn't forget the actor Benjamin Bratt (Law and Order, Traffic, Miss Congeniality etc). We were waiting for our bags in SFO ex a UA flight from SYD and my wife mumbled something in my ear. I had no idea what she was on about - I thought she was reprimanding me for pushing our trolley into the one that belonged to the guy next to us (I was too busy looking at his female companion).

Only after the guy next to us and his companion picked up their bags, did I find out from my drooling wife that the guy was Benjamin Bratt and the vivacious brunette was his wife Talisa - my wife hadn't even noticed that I bumped their trolley!

I have kissed Craig McLachlan :D

Well, he just let me go to the bar before him; one of those moments when we both got there at much the same time, and I couldn't tell who should go first. No tongues were involved (phew).
