For anyone who doesn't know Jack Whitehall (comedian/actor) and his father, Michael (agent to the stars), and hasn't seen it already on Netflix, Travels With My Father is a great laugh.

Yes, we enjoyed that series, although not so much the very latest one.

Quite a few years ago, I said much the same thing. I was excoriated for my opinion. Most of the ‘famous’ people named I’ve still never heard of….

Apart from the odd pollie sitting in the front couple of seats who I don't count as famous, the only really famous person I came across was sitting next to Khamal on a flight back to Perth from Sydney. I shook hands with him, told him I liked his work, and left it that.

I have just been reminded of an incident on our Asian trip in early 1984. We used Hong Kong as a base and visited China,South Korea and Japan. After each country we came back to Hong Kong for a couple of days. We took Mrsdrron's mother a nd our son. Booking 2 rooms was going to be quite expensive in Hong Kong but on the advice of our brilliant travel agent (our niece) we booked a junior suite at the Regent Hotel which was cheaper than 2 rooms at other hotels we were looking at. They got to know us well. On our 4th and last visit I was told that they had no junior suites available but I hope you are happy with our substitute room. It was their second largest suite and ginormous.
At breakfast that last morning they seated a VIP next to us. She had a large hat on so no way to see her face. But a manager came over and profusely apologised - "i'm sorry miss Bassey but your room xx_x is not available just yet." It was Shirley Bassey and she was sitting on the bench seat right next to me. I quietly told the others to take their time with breakfast.
The day before we had been rung and told the room came with a Rolls Royce transfer so what time would you like it. When we arrived at Kai Tak the driver asked business or first class check in sir. I replied that this time we had decided to fly down the back.
