SIA (and MAS and TG) have return Y flights PER-YGN for under $1,000 (I used Sept 2012 as a dummy booking).

Easy as!

Danger - are you taking out travel insurance for this itinerary?

Ummm, so far just the ANZ Visa Platinum. Should I get more?

I've booked the fare leaving in late December and returning in January so not a cheap time unfortunately but I will check those carriers for flights nonetheless.

I should point out that the flights I've booked are for my parents. My Father, who makes a fish's rear-end look sloppy, finds it particularly difficult to spend more than a few pennies on any flight. It's difficult to believe but even this fare, in Business, was a hard sell. My Mother, on the other hand, has to suffer in silence. Not this time (hopefully).

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I've just bought some Christmas time flights to CDG. This is an unreal price! I wonder if you can just transit through? That is just get back onto the SIN return plane?

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I hope they're experienced travellers - PER-xx_-YGN-SIN-ZHR is not going to be a particularly straightforward route!

God. NYC for Christmas return in J for $935.

That is ridiculous.

ZRH and SIN several times but YGN, never. Assuming the fare is honoured, what should they be particularly aware of?

Other may have been there and may be able to give an educated opinion, but, visa and immigration issues are what springs to mind for me, and health issues and prescribed medication. I would minimize their time in Rangoon and maybe have a little stopover in Singapore or KL - it would be the dry (non-monsoonal) season in that part of the world.

You could get to Yangoon in the morning and get out the same day for your onward journey and return the same way or ditch the journey in Singapore and get on another flt from Singapore to Australia. cant have checked in luggage though.

I assume they'll want to get to ZRH as quickly as possible. They could try and get SIA to check their bags all the way through if they fly SIA PER-SIN-YGN. That will probably raise questions about why they are doing what looks like a status run SIN-YGN-SIN. Presumably in YGN theyll be getting back on the same Silk-Air plane but moving up to J class as they start their cheap J trip.

And on the way home the temptation will be to disembark in SIN and not go back onto to YGN (to then come straight back to SIN!) - I would certainly much rather hang out in a J lounge in SIN for 8 hours than do the tiresome SIN-YGN J then straight back YGN-SIN Y. If they have no checked-in luggage Im guessing it's do-able, if not its tricky because they would need to collect their bags somehow or the bags would continue onto SIN.

I've never been to YGN but cant imagine it would be somewhere you would want to spend a good amount of time in transit at the very start and end of your European Christmas holiday. I would book the PER-YGN on SIA purely because they can then get on the same plane back to SIN (and not have to overnight in YGN) and hopefully luggage can be checked right through (they just need to be prepared to explain why they are doing such a bizzare routing - 'a mistake in your booking software program' would not be a suitable answer!).

I would personally love the challenge but could imagine my parents getting confused: 'why cant we just stay in SIN if we are going and then coming straight back there from YGN?'

Could stay in Yangon and get used to a currency that is issued in (amongst other things) 15, 45 and 90 kyat denominations!

This is why I love this site.

I just had a look for the dates that I want to travel (July) and I can get this rtn flight for $900. Paired with the QF flight to SIN for $500 rtn and then $250 for the flight from SIN to RGN and I am in Europe for just over $1,500 with the lions share in J...

I think that a booking will be made this very evening.

Don't think I would wait that long.
This will get pulled pretty quickly.
Thank goodness it's not on FT :p

At a later date can you cancel the YGN-SIN leg and keep the SIN-ZHR leg? Surely other than an admin change fee they could'nt charge you more for cancelling/forfeiting part of the trip?

We will await news from Danger with great interest now!

Some good points. Thank you. I think flying SQ between PER and YGN is going to put the price up quite a lot (I know, still absolutely dirt, stone, cold cheap but remember what I said about my Father) but will still look at it.

I agree with the comment from Princess Fiona. Don't wait. I can't believe it's still available now.

Now a fairly important question: how long do I wait before assuming it's all done and dusted and will be honoured? I have received the email confirmation so perhaps wait until the charge has appeared on the credit card, do you think? Obviously, being the holiday season, delaying bookings can be expensive. Interestingly, the below disclaimer appears at the time of booking:

At what part of the booking process did it error? I can get up to stage 5, but haven't moved further.

PS - the original fare is also available for one-ways. $US300 to the UK ...

I'm looking at RGN-xSGN-ZRH-xSIN-RGN in September and October and it's allowing me to go all the way through to inputting passenger names. Fare is USD559 return.

I was getting the error message too but I think the server was timing out. I tried again a few minutes later and all was good.
