re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I think this thread is going to remain very interesting over the next month or so as I assume Silk Air will attempt to change/cancel your bookings.

Can everyone who managed to book please let us know what happens!!

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

Was already looking at going to Europe in June-July ex-SIN to cut costs, so was able to pull the trigger quickly on this one.

Booked at 4:30p.m. RGN-SIN-LHR-SIN-RGN in J 924USD all in (stupidly went for a London departure which incurred a 257.47USD departure fee on a 63USD fare)
Booked at 4.49p.m. RGN-SIN-MEL in J 273USD all in (on the A380; 43USD base fare).

Just tried a search for CDG but the fare has been pulled.

This is the first mistake type fare I've ever taken, is there any strategies to help ensure silkair/SQ honour it? I don't want to be lumped with a 1197USD Silkair credit. I brought 88AUD OOL-SIN tickets in the Scoot launch sale last month, so is the best bet just to play dumb and state that I assumed it was another special sale fare?

I assume if it all goes wrong I can simply cancel at 100USD per booking? Or request a credit-card reversal?

Some interesting information on Flyertalk here from an Australian resident who very recently lodged a claim with the Office of Fair Trading after a Czech Airlines fare mistake. See posts 727 and 731.

And some more pertinent info here as well.

Seems to be a consensus opinion here that Danger has taken the correct approach, book far in advance and expect an argument, and screen shot every term and condition whilst booking on the web and keep all email correspondance as well as maybe screen shotting your own credit card balance.

This is what I was implying earlier on this afternoon when I asked Danger if he would be trying to get travel insurance on that itinerary. My bet would have been that any travel insurer would refuse to insure this...

But if they refuse to honour the fare, to whom does one complain? I doubt the Myanmar Government has the equivalent of the Office of Fair Trading or Consumer Affairs Department.

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

From the silkair.com web site:

APPLICABLE LAW AND JURISDICTION The law applicable to these Conditions of Use of Web Site is the law of the Republic of Singapore and the courts of the Republic of Singapore will have exclusive jurisdiction in case of any dispute.

So if Danger did his transaction in Australia then by using the silkair.com website he may have to pursue this through Singapore system? Is that how others read it?

Agreed. And I don't the Czech government has one either. I merely found the FT posts interesting considering the issue is with a non-Australian company and an Australian resident.

Damn, this didn't last long! Didn't even garner a mention on FT. Good luck to all those who booked it. :)

Not sure why you are trying to belittle the Czech Govt, but as a full fee paying member of the EU, they will no doubt be bound by their rules.

Perhaps you should research things a little more before letting go with your keyboard finger.

Interesting. Thanks for that. I'll have a look around on the web tomorrow for any information.

My booking is still showing in my krisflyer.com.. I reckon SIA will let the winners take their small wins rather than actually admit they make mistakes.

Can't believe I am only stumbling on this now :(((

I doubt it's small, however. The fare wasn't just to one or two cities, it seemed to be for their entire network ex-RGN. The lost revenue could potentially be several hundred thousand dollars. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see them honouring it.

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

Here's an interesting article on the WSJ website about mistake airline fares from two years ago. Of particular interest is this:

"UAL Corp's United Airlines, Continental Airlines Inc., Southwest Airlines Co., JetBlue Airways Corp. and Singapore Airlines all say their policy is to not cancel tickets even when a mistake is discovered, no matter how large the error"
[emphasis added].

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

FWIW folks even though the booking appears under my SQ account, when I click into it this message pops up "Please enter valid Booking reference or ticket number and Last/Family name.

An amount to the ticket amount has been taken off my credit card, so interesting days ahead.

Section 11, paragraph (g) of SilkAir's 'Use of Online Booking Facility - Limitation of Liability' may be an issue:

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SilkAir is not liable for any injury, loss, claim, damage, including those based in negligence, whether actual, incidental or consequential (including lost profits or other special damages) which arises out of or is in any way connected with any of the following items:

. . .

(g) any booking or reservation made through the SilkAir Online booking facility that has not registered or is delayed or is in error.
