Final flights for the B767

Yes, QF WP has slightly let the cat out of the bag (and I thought she was asleep on the bed!)...

I am absolutely overwhelmed and delighted that QF (well, the lovely Red Roo) has, due to a cancellation, offered me seemingly the last seat on QF767 for Saturday afternoon. I feel so happy and privileged to have been given this opportunity to partake in what will surely be a very memorable event in QF history and for those AFF members (and everyone) involved. I do know this seat was also offered to a very worthy person ahead of me, and I shall leave it to them to disclose if they wish, but I certainly felt the offer from QF was genuine, classy and appropriate, however this member has decided to not take up the offer, and I understand that so I am the poor man's substitute!

I know I'm relatively new to AFF, but certain members, such as QF WP, know me from FT for years as a long term av geek and total nerd :)

I want to thank QANTAS and specially Red Roo for the very kind offer and want to make the most of it and party on and celebrate the 767 in QF service. This was hardly an expectation of mine or anything and I was very happy with the experience I had just last Sunday wich a very lovely flight crew being generous with their time and indulging me.. this is total icing on the cake and such a delight. A special side note to the P1 team who called and let me know to check my PM's too! :D I am agog, but delighted, to be part of this.

I promise as many photos as I can and a proper report of course.

I had to fill in a few hours at Melbourne yesterday, so I took myself on a nostalgia visit to a 767 at the domestic terminal. It was OGU. Looking back at my logbook, I first flew her in 1998, and last in 2004. We did 32 sectors, and 231 hours together.

We visited: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Cairns, Bali, Auckland, Christchurch, Honolulu, Vancouver, Mumbai, Singapore, Hong Hong, and Narita.

iPhone shots from yesterday...

jb747, wouldn't it be nice to be one of the pax on the final flight(s)?? Although sitting in anything other than the Captains chair might be a bit strange...

Not really. I said my goodbye to them when I left to go to the 747. A great aircraft, and one which has taught a very large number of QF pilots their trade. The 767 was never an easy aircraft to fly, but it was always very rewarding when you got it right. And, it tended to make everything else look easy....I recall the 747-400 being described as a "big, fat, slow, 767".

As I can't make the final flight(s), I'll be on the Gold Coast toasting the final flyers with Champagne, red and white wine - hope I don't sink to the bottom of the pool...

On my flight on Sunday out of SYD on OGT, it must have had a very light load overall (though enough pax it seemed!) because the takeoff was quick and awesome and steep.. almost 757ish.. it was fantastic! :)

I have a sneaking suspicion that derate might not be high on the list of things to use at the moment. A light 767 (and any domestic weight is light) at full power was always fun. You just have to hope the the Captain feels there might be some windshear in the area (i.e. country) when you depart.

Looks like the remaining 5 might all get a go on Saturday:

I asked this in the "event" thread, but thought I'd also add it here given there was some talk of Rydges@SYD for post event.. now that I'm part of this I'm interested since I'm unsure if I want to get the 8pm flight back to MEL(last of the night on QF?!) or stay, perhaps at the Rydges, and head home the Sunday late am/lunchtime.

SO interested where people are at on anything post-flight (or post whatever QF does, that is)

I'm interested in something post flight if it happens. Rydges is fine by me. With enough notice can cancel Hilton and stay at R.

Just checked my booking for QF767 and was attempting to look at the seat selection map of the J Cabin and It came up with a message stating "Seat selection is not available for this flight, please choose from these preferences (window or isle)"

I chose the window preference of course, but when I went to check the seat selection map again my earlier chosen seat of 3B was blocked (with my seating preference just stating window) and giving me the only seat option remaining which is 5F... What's going on? :(

You are not the only one reporting seat selection blockage. Qantas must have pulled the pin on this flight.

Don't worry, probably just subbed for a 717.

I am annoyed with whoever allocates seating... On the original QF490 I had 23A.

Cue the change to QF452 and I'm able to select 29K next to my travel companion. (Having done a TCP/PNR link) This sticks until the flight number change to QF767 when I am plonked right back in row 40? I subsequently select 30K, (the now furthest forward available with two abreast window/aisle seats) and this sticks also - until the other day, at which point I was seemingly turfed out of my seat by someone else and put back into 43A?

I am now unable to re select my original 30K given it is now 'occupied', nor any other aisle seat. Even after several HUACAs and ExpertFlyer searches. Not happy to say the least given that I am currently sitting 13 rows from my travel partner and they are seemingly unwilling to reciprocate what they did to me and kick 'someone else' out of row 30 for me.

It's great you're in the J cabin.
I too looked into the PNR I was given by QF and mine is shared with some soon to be new friends (I suspect one of those may well be Buzzard :) ) anyway yep, no seat selection available. Couldn't even put in my FF# - not for FF credit (though this one does show class Y :D ) but more so I could check in via my card/app, but that's all a bit minor really.

Whereer it is, as long as it's not on the wing or in the hold I think will be fantastic for the experience. me, I'm expecing a middle down the back, and hey a change is as good as a holiday right?

right now I'm thinking I will stay the night at the Rydges, then fly back to MEL on JQ38 next day with some F lounge goodness (a JQ flight number will get me in, right? :D :D :D ) to get things going. I like this Rydges is brand new and right at the int terminal, so not far to go in the morning :)

When the flight number changed, I kept my seat, but TomVexille got pushed back 10 rows even though we are on the same PNR. All very strange.
