FINNAIR - new Business Class AirLounge seat

My 21yo daughter and I flew Singapore to Helsinki a350 with new seats. Absolutely loved these seats for sleeping. The main part of the bed is significantly wider than previous seats meaning it’s easy to change position and get comfortable. Found staff very attentive. It’s absolutely like a couch in the seated position which I liked - perfect if agile and not tall! Agree it’s best to avoid first couple of rows as galley is quite visible and a bit noisy. We had window seats row 2 and 3, on way home we will position ourselves a little further back in the cabin.

I have a couple of transatlantic sectors coming up on the new J seats in the next few weeks. Thanks to all for the comments, looking forward to adding a few of my own. Will try to take some iPhone snaps as well.

The new seats are amazing as they feel so much wider. Like a big lounge. Sleep was also amazing.

The service however is very cold and ridged

HEL airport is amazing. Straight through passport control in 1 minute
Agree - passport control is quick however the Schengen side of the airport is super crowded and we could not use lounge as it was standing room only. We went into Helsinki for the day and our onward flight was at 4pm. Staff on our flight were very attentive (although I was only awake for about 3 hours!! )

I personally found the seats okay….but as someone that likes the Z recline, I probably wouldn’t fly it again.

Short haul HEL crew I found good but the crew on the SIN flight were rubbish, basically disappeared for the whole flight, one of the worst business class service I’ve experienced.
Stark contrast to flying QR on the way to Europe

How well was the "call bell challenge" met?

Just flew SEA-HEL on a non-refurbished A330 and now finishing up on HEL-SIN with the new product before being subjected to BA to Sydney.

WHAT a difference. The new cabin is stunning, and I found the seat to be instantly comfortable. Shimmying down to sleep was less awkward than I expected and the footwell quite generous. A top contender for one of my preferred hard products now. If you like cozying up into your sofa at home, you’ll enjoy this. So many options to tuck yourself up in natural ways.

Finnish crew out of SEA very good. Singaporean crew out of HEL is very young and they seem a bit more uncertain/inexperienced, but have been very friendly and have done multiple rounds of service — a nice surprise given some of the previous comments.

Catering out of HEL was very good albeit on a single tray. That said, I’m Scandinavian so copious amounts of smoked fish, dill, and mayonnaise-based salad dressings are my thing perhaps more than they are others. Presentation was very good.

Sorry for the late update. I have actually flown half a dozen or so long hauls in the new J seats now.
Mix of the A350 and A330.
I wound say overall it’s absolutely brilliant.
The seat/ bed comfort is amazing. Do not miss the recline at all. The mechanical flip part on the ottoman can be used throughout the flight including takeoff and landing.
The privacy from the high sides is excellent.
The best I can describe the seat is that arranging the pillows and getting comfy is like snuggling up on your sofa at home. Outstanding.
Super wide for those side sleepers.

On the downside like the old AY seats it’s a little firm.
The IFE screen isn’t brilliant and not adjustable.
If you use the belt that is supplied for sleeping it feels a bit weird on your legs as it’s pre-tensioned and can’t be fastened loosely.

Overall I think this is a really great concept. With a couple of tweaks would be unbeatable.
Happy to fly long haul again in it.

I love the new business class seat too! Just tried it for the first time recently on their A350 from SIN to HEL. Excellent privacy as well.

I finally managed to get onto the seat as well (HEL - SIN). It’s an amazing seat and I like the space (width) and the privacy. Sleeping felt almost like in my own bed. Good idea to provide two pillows. Well done Finnair!

Crew was a mix between Filipino & Singaporean - very attentive and proactive but utterly uncoordinated 😂 Crew 1 ask A and 30 secs later Crew 2 ask A again.

I had considered that as well but the beef just tickled my fancy more that night.

The trout was very tasty, as was the prawn salad.

I did find the "game pie" (tart) to be very, very salty even at altitude.

The blueberry juice is always a hit. Give it a try, even if it wouldn't normally be your thing.

Awesome! Thankyou very much! Other half will be very pleased.
If you are sitting together, nab the bulkhead pair in either the front or second cabin, as they have better leg space and the foot cubby is not as tight or claustrophobic.
