- light leakage and privacy levels in QF F

This is exactly what I was referring to by 'designer' cabins. So much emphasis was placed on the Marc Newson design but several major aspects were design over practicality. The light leakage is a big problem, but they decided passengers would prefer a label rather than comfort.

oh, and 2 hours out from Sydney the seat wouldn't go back upright. Two crew had a look and sent for a third who never turned up, once i could see how the cushions came off when the first two crew poked around i managed to jam a fork in the appropriate place and hey presto. (it was just a little arm loose but it needed some tlc.)

Generally I don't care, but reading others want more; all i want is whats there now to work. :D

Size really isn't everything ;)

I would echo this as the biggest consideration:

- light leakage and privacy levels in QF F

I take a lot of high value clients in F/J around the world and even though most prefer to fly QF (as they are AU) and some downright loath Emirates, we tend to end up on Emirates a lot because they offer the option to have a more private F experience with their doors.

QF F I think goes the other way too much - lovely open space but you don't feel like it is 'your' space.

This open space also means if someone is watching a movie it illuminates the whole cabin because the light isn't contained in their own space well enough / the angles aren't quite right to deflect your eye.

Personally I don't really mind - but it's something I've observed with my client base trekking back and forth in F over the last few years.

Hopefully this can be passed on, I would have loved to have gone but I'm afraid I share my F flying around too much ;)

This is one of the biggest advantages of seat 1A. It's the least likely to be affected by light.

Having said that I think every seat in F should have have the same comfort levels.
I will try to pass this on next week.

Some airlines have better IFE then others, that's a fact. EK IFE is a good example of an industry leading product. QF is not the worst but also not the best out there so there is room for improvement. The attitude of "you will never please everyone" is just defeatism.

I look it at as realism..each to their own:)

I flew Lhr-Syd in 1A in May....i could hear the toilet flush all flight...won't be picking that seat again!

so you jam a fork into a seat mechanism...regardless of 'hey presto', there is a reason crew can do only certain things to try to rectify...did you stop to think that, although your 'hey presto' action solved your issue, that action may have damaged the mechanics into the future (the next flight the seat is broken because you jammed a fork in it!!!)...but hey, that's not your problem:rolleyes: oh well.. that's enough from me:D

Do they make any effort to soundproof the bathroom walls to minimise the noise for other passengers?

Presumably they do. I personally never hear a thing from 1A in regards to toilets flushing. I'm more usually disturbed by the FA opening the cupboard across from my seat to get the mattresses out, although that doesn't usually go on for a long time and they try their best to be quiet.

My thoughts/suggestions after having doing some F travel -

1. Courtesy call from QF before flights to ensure that everything was in order and booked (CD, Spa etc) and to confirm any assistance required or answer any questions.

2. If travelling F, you should always have access to CD at both ends.

3. Kerb side F hostess at all ports with escort through the airport to lounge (you can always say no thank you if you don't want this).

4. Doors on the suite and higher walls without going all the way up to the ceiling.

5. Larger TV with more camera and flight information viewing.

6. Full caviar service and lobster meal option.

7. Rethink the A380 lounge into something that is functional as a proper bar / social area.

Hope that you have an enjoyable time at the session.

I'm sure that I wouldn't be the only one who would enjoy a debrief from you on the experience.

Regards

I agree with the above. Especially more privacy for the Suties ie. door and/or higher walls.

Also add Dining On Demand.

Fly in J most of the time and tried F SYD to LAX recently. Overall the experience was great and service was awesome but I feel Qantas needs to address one thing besides the bland cabin, need for a larger toilet, and the J like menus.

Having travelled on Thai F, one thing that struck me was the ordinary experience from kerbside to lounge and cabin to kerbside at the other end on QF.
Check in at SYD was interesting, the first class check in was clogged with WPs. It was quicker to use the business check in. The staff member at the first lounge was a bit abrasive but I didn't let that spoil our experience in the excellent lounge.
If Qantas had the kerbside experience that Thai airways has,(dedicated escort at each end) it would have completed the experience for me.

I wonder if the relative cost of labour makes it harder for QF to do some of the really valuable services around escorting, meet/greet and so on.

That's a fair enough assumption but apparently QF do offer these services. The problem is they do it selectively which means not all F pax get the same on-the-ground experience.

Flip the coin - if Qantas did offer an incredible experience would more people pay?

Their data only shows trends - not opportunities.

The best ever check in experience is Cathay Pacific F in Hong Kong. No lining up on counters here.

My hotel is on the A10 bus route which I catch. You have to travel on the train (well you have to have a ticket), so I am not allowed to do in-town check in. It is an excellent idea if catching a late flight, spending the day in town and have access to clean clothes and a shower at an airport lounge.

Given QF only serve a handful of ports with F some form of arrival lounge and baggage service would be appropriate. As it is the end of the experience is not First Class at all.
