Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

I've did Lobster Thermidor ex-Sin and ex-LHR, and Lobser Curry ex-Sin, all average.
The missus loved the Herb crusted Veal, forgot which flight it was. She hated the dim sum ex-Sin, was cold and tasteless but they offered to make eggs for her but I think she was over breakfast at that stage.

The burger in TPR is to die for and Angus burger ex-Sin was very nice and juicy as well.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

The chicken rice ex-SYD was terrible. It's probably the worst chicken rice I've ever eaten.
The seafood thermidor was ok. Nothing special.
Actually, the menu on board was rather uninspiring.

apparently chicken rice ex-SIN is the best

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Flying SQ J in May ex Sin and think I will do the lobster thermidore for my BTC...

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

They won't let me have lobster thermodore for SIN-BKK in J

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

They let me have lobster thermidor for SIN-CGK believe it or not. This was a few years ago though.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Any BTC recommendations for departures out of SIN and NRT ? :)

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

In an hour I'm heading off on SQ12 SIN-NRT-LAX. Because my wife isn't looking I'm having the right oz rib eye steak for lunch then lobster thermodor with pilaff rice for the second leg. I'll report back.

I can say I've enjoyed the TPR eggs benedict this morning but frankly the QF first lounge food in SYD leaves them all for dead.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

That would be the eight ounce rib eye.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Wasn't really impressed with either choice. The steak was over done and quite dry and the lobster was pretty bland. Maybe my expectations are too high? I'm now on LAX-NRT and have booked the lamb chop. I'll report back again.

chicken prawn laksa SIN-HKG

ehhhh, it was tasty but too much noodle: good stuff. jaded opinion as i'd flown up from Sydney and spent 4 hours killing time in TPR so was just looking forward to landing.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

and finally lobster wanton soup HKG-SIN. 3 tasty wantons, plenty of not so tasty noodles. wouldn't order again.

i had initially BTC chicken tikka SIN-SYD but was lucky enough to move my flight ahead to the A380, forgoing the BTC meal. i know people rant about QF and its continental breakfast - unfortunately SQ do the same, at least on the 840pm out of SYD.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Back with a quick report before I hit the sack for a few hours in the transit hotel here in SIN.
Lamb chop was ok. Overall I've been more impressed with the standard menu fare this trip, although I've selected dishes that don't by definition, come with a lot of gravy, which I now think is essential on flights for keeping the meals tender and edible.
Lesson learned.
Regards,
Peter

Chicken prawn laksa and duck rice look good :)

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Got a flight from SYD-SIN Suites coming up in a few weeks. Can I book the cook to get the Lobster Thermadore and have it as my 'Refreshment Meal' later in the flight and choose from the normal menu for my Main Course?

I can't recall having a tender steak on a plane - SQ or not.

Maybe the chefs haven't cracked the secrets yet of inflight reheating in relation to steaks.

I had now refrained from ordering steaks on all airlines (SQ included).

My partner had the wagyu steak SIN-MEL, and it wasn't too bad for airline standards. Good enough that I finished my meal and finished her steak as she was kind of getting over the excessive amount of food and drinks on the plane. Good for me though.

Re: Book the cook suggestions by departure city

Yes my expectations might be a little high, I admit. I had the US rib steak on the SIN-SYD leg and it was an improvement on what I'd had before. In future though I'm going to ether stick to the std menu or do a BTC with other, more "liquid" options. I still believe SQ to be the best airline I've experienced and to be honest any complaints about food in suites really are first world problems.
