First Qantas A220 revealed

You fly QF so you need / expect IFE back of seat on domestic, even though they don't have that now.....

I don't mind that these a220s dont have IFE but wifi and up to date charging.

If they want to use thr latter a220s to do long range Int'l missions or even some longer range domestic, then perhaps we might see some IFE configurations later.

Anyhow random CBR detour trip booked in one of my upcoming MEL-SYD trips. Surprisingly wasn't too much more to the overall cost.
 
That may be true but to have a ‘premium cabin’ nowadays IFE is a must regardless of whether the plane has Wifi or not. And the A220 and A321XLRs are not purely domestic jets, Qantas has signalled that the A220 will operate short-haul international flights in the not so distant future where it will be up against the likes of SQ’s 737MAX and NZ’s A320neo which are fully equipped with seatback screens. The A321XLR will go even further.

QF want these A220's under NJS to eat away at 737 routes as much as possible, another great cost saving for those damn wages.....

MS got rid of all their A220s, all less then 4 years old, apparently because of availability of engine parts.
KE is considering getting rid of theirs once the OZ merger goes through.

SimplyFlying says MS sold them to get cash to buy more widebody and had no problem selling them because they were well maintained and had fully overhauled engines
 
Just had our flights for our wedding changed to an A220 flight from a 737, and am completely stoked! 😁
Surprised they aren't prioritising these for the longer thin routes first though (e.g Darwin) as a on routes the E190s don't have the legs but 37's are a bit too big.

Airbus CEO apparently threw shade at MS at the recent airshow in Singapore suggesting there were more factors than engine efficiency issues.
 
The Qantaslink planes the A220 is replacing didn't have seat back IFE so no loss IMO. If there is wifi almost everyone will have a phone, tablet or laptop of their own to stream content, or will have downloaded it beforehand.

The larger overhead bin space is the bigger win.
The 717’s they are replacing didn’t have wifi, this is an improvement on top of the Q-Streaming of the 717’s.

[OT] Saw another article that MS future planning has been all over the shop and the gov is looking to crack down on less than competent management for the chaos. Placed a huge order for new jets, selling off reasonably new jets, and underutilisation of current fleet etc etc

I hope KE doesn't. We're booked to fly on one of their A220s late this year from Jeju across to Busan.
 
Near as I can tell the inaugural commercial flight is QF1266 tomorrow (Fri 1/3) at 10am. Currently set for Gate 25. If they were going to do anything major, I would imagine a bigger gate area may be used. Time will tell. Happy flying to anyone on it

Gate 22 now. A better gate if there was to be any kind of fanfare imo.
 
Yep X4B was the first, got some good shots of X4A. Minor fanfare at the gate, seemed a fair few travel bloggers etc. around, notice up about it being the inaugural and all pax were given a bag with a small certificate, lanyard, cookie and model A220, which was pretty cool.
