First Qantas A220 revealed

I've only ever seen USB-A to USB-C cables, including this morning when at the shops looking for USB-C cables.

I stand to be corrected, but isn't USB-C going to be the mandated charging connection for all mobile phones at some point in the future? Due to the mandate issued by the European Union to have commonality of chargers between mobile devices to reduce the amount of e-waste.

if so, USB-C to USB-C will be pretty normal.

Already is the case. Apple was the last to switch and as of the iphone 15 all (I haven't seen one without) phones sold are usb c

Laptops will also follow in the future, most of them have usb c ports that can also charge the device (including iPads and Macs and other brands too). 65w is plenty for the average laptop and more than enough for tablets and phones. Would like to see airlines using 2-3 usb c outlets per seat instead of just the one though, then can charge laptop and phone during the flight (though not as essential on a flight the length of the A220)

Truly random, but I just realised that X4A, our green tailed friend, appears to have no AUS flag by the registration. X4B does as part of the regular livery.

i don't believe the flags of country of registry are strictly required on commercial aircraft, and I'm not ascribing any meaning for the lack of it. Just was looking at some pics I took and realised.
This lead me to have a look at the currently operating Qantas flying art series planes;
- VH-XZJ, the Mendoowoorrji 737-800, does not have a flag
- VH-ZND, the Yam Draming 787-9, does have a flag

My cables have gone from 80% USB A- USB C (and 20% C-C) to now the opposite. I think I've only got 2 A-C now and 1 C-C with attached A to C adaptor.

Most usb A ports can't handle high pd and these days I charge everything off my 120w charger which primarily has C ports. Laptop, tablet, switch, phone, headphones etc . Saves me from having to bring multiple chargers on a trip as this can handle 4 devices, compact and has swappable plugs.

I'd order the cables online from Amazon, much cheaper than in-store and usually better quality and range too.

Most of my devices are also USB-C - Samsung S23U, Macbook Pro, Sony a7 MkIII, Sony WH-1000XM4, Cygnett 20k Reserve Powerbank etc.

I've still got some USB-A to USB-C cables in addition to C-C as well as a USB-A power adapter good for up to 18W, which is still respectable / quick enough.

I think most planes that still have USB-A charging probably output 1-2W, considering how slow they charge. Even at times I've used my phone whilst charging and the battery percentage goes down - that's why I just use my powerbank instead.

Would be keen to fly on the A220 and try its USB-C 60W capability, but the routes that I would fly probably wouldn't use this aircraft.

The USB-C port confuses me.
I've never seen a cable that has a USB-C port on both ends.
Really?

All my chargers (samsung fast charge for my phone, tablet and smart watch) are USB-C on both ends.

And both my personal and work laptops also charge via USB-C cable.

I think only apple was late to the USB-C part after the EU forced their hand.

You can usb c-usb-c cables at supermarket, office works and amazon and any phone accessories store.

One person posts they've not seen a cable and everyone posts they have. All irrelevant to this threads. Maybe the @admin can move those posts to a thread about what various cables people have seen in the wild?

All Apple products use them now, my Mac, iPad and iPhone are all C-C.

Apologies, I responded below before I saw this 😁

Flying on the A220 thursday in J from CBR to MEL. Hoping to get the green Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa version, is that flying the CBR-MEL route? I think they still only have the 2 A220's... for now.
