PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Uprade chances on qf29 on 21 dec Mel-hkg

... Wow! Only 1 available seat on the whole flight. I would have expected some cancellations by now from people playing musical flights.
Not many flights to move to ...

FWIW, I would suggest that even that one seat has already been sold (and probably more); however Qantas may be prepared to kick another PAX off the flight for someone prepared to pay full F rates.

Good chance there is a waitlist on that flight as well.

Only 1 week to go. I had best get to the airport very early next Sunday to make sure I am not the one off-loaded. ;)

Unbelievable that I have to fight for a place on a flight I had booked over 9 months ago.

It is unlikely a WP would be offloaded unless the agents knew an inbound connecting flight was late or they were very late checking in.

By that time you should already have received your BP from SYD/BNE in any case.

I trust QF even less after what happened to Bundy Bear recently. If it wasn't enough to be off-loaded from one flight and re-booked on another flight but then to be stuffed around with seating on top of it all was the icing on the cake.

How does any Platinum feel safe? Forget about hoping for op-ups! We had better hope that our seats are not re-allocated to someone else or that we are downgraded.

Not leaving anything to chance. I will be in SYD on Friday, use OLCI for flight at T-24 and then hopefully driving down the M5 tunnel between 1:00pm-2:00pm on Sunday.

Will more than likely have dinner with an AFFer in SIN on Sunday night and I have seen the list of golf courses scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and I am not missing them just because QF gave away my seat to a nobody....

I am booked on QF001 28 December 2010 (travelling alone) syd-bkk, ticket Y class (full eco) have req upgrade to PE for 10,000 pts. I see the sector syd-bkk is very full in eco but still open syd-lhr. I have seat 40 allocated (bulkhead). Is it a waste of points upgrading. I am a platinum. Wll I be upgraded, like operational upgrade?

As we say here Sir, be prepared to fly in the class you paid for.

You wont be upgraded without sufficient reasons and we don't know those reasons. being a WP guarantees nothing either. There could be six spare seats and five CL's ahead of you and then a WP who has the same ticket as you but a four five or six membership number which you probably don't.

Anycase there also is a randomness to this business at times.

Goodluck in any case.

Let's us know how you got on

Just as well I had a look at my booking on QF website earlier.

I had better be drving down the M5 tunnel between 10:00am-11:00am otherwise I will not make the 12:30pm flight down to MEL first.

F0 A0 J9 C9 D9 I3 W2 R1 T0 Y9 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0 I'd be confident of a U (business) points upgrade; no so much for PE.

However, it look like the Y cabin is oversold (Y9 B0 tends to indicate the selling of upgraded cabin seats for full Y prices.)

re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

I have been in involved in 2 Y-J international points upgrade requests over the last 2 weeks.

Both instances have been Platinums trying to get out of Y. Both instances were pure Y-J upgrade requests (ie no fallback box ticked for PE/W).

Both instances the upgrade process waitlisted then failed. Both instances planes have been very full.

Both instances the passengers were OPUPed to PEW. First one at checkin and the second one the beep at the gate.

re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

I've put in a upgrade J-F request for QF31 SYD-SUN on 1 JAN 2011. Expertflyer is showing
F2 A0 P0 J9 C9 D9 I0 U0 W0 R0 T0 Z0 Y9 B8 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 G0 X0 E0

Being new to all of this, what do you think my chances are?

I'm still not sure I'll go ahead with the request (save points for another trip) but thats another discussion.

re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

I have seat 40 on the 744, wouldnt this be as good in terms, of comfort than a PE seat?

re: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

Row 40 bulkhead on 744 is as comfortable, if not more than, as a premium economy seat.

For a 4-class aircraft, row 40 is first row Economy. There's good leg room in this row, which will make up for not being able to sit in PE if you can't upgrade / afford it. Although this depends on how tall you are.

Here's a picture of me sitting in 40A of a 4-class 744. For reference my height is 175 cm.

I agree with other posts here, it will be better, especially if you have an aisle seat.
