PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

what this number mean?

You're welcome.

What class of travel are you currently in and what are you hoping to upgrade to?

If you read earlier in the thread you will see what the classes and numbers mean. For example, F7 and P7 generally mean that there are several seats in those classes (first class) available for sale - so still empty. It can be confusing. I'm not an expert in interpreting these numbers so perhaps others can help.

Where can fine info what those F2 meant?

what this number mean?

Broadly they mean that for your first flight, the airline only has 2 F seats available for sale - indicating flight is quite full in the premium cabin. therefore upgrade chances are low.

For the second flight, both premium and economy cabins are quite open at this time, with seats for sale in most buckets. But of course the flight is just under a month away and a lot will change.

QF Upgrade Availaibility

I'm looking to fly HND - SYD and want to upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class.

Hence, can someone help me find upgrade availability for 1 passenger on these dates:

27th March
4th April

Cheers,

Nash

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

Hi there,

At the moment QF26 is showing as J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T3 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M0 L0 G0 for 27/Mar
4/Apr is showing J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9

So there's no U availability at the moment (but this only appears later is my understanding?). That being said the J cabin looks fairly lightly booked on both of those days - but not sure if there are blackouts or restrictions on upgrades around Easter.

Hope this helps.

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

Hi there,

I am booked to travel from Melbourne to Dubai on Monday 14 December 2015 on Emirates (EK405). I was wondering if there was any availability for an upgrade to business class on that flight.

I have a similar query for the return flight Dubai to Melbourne 28 December 2015 on Emirates (EK 408).

Would appreciate the help.

Looks like decent J availability.

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

Thanks for the reply

Does the I7 loading suggest a high probability of obtaining a discounted Business Class upgrade prior to check-in or at check-in?

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

I think it does but will leave it to those more expert in reading these than me to comment.

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

Hi All

I am new to Aussie Frequent Flyer. I was fortunate to have someone inform me the loadings for my flight EK405 on the 14th December 2015 (Melbourne - Dubai) and EK408 on the 28th December (Dubai - Melbourne).

I wanted to know whether I7 means that there is a high probability of obtaining a discounted or free Business Class upgrade (prior to check-in or at check-in). If that is so, I would also like to know what is the best way to try and obtain the discounted or free Business Class upgrade (i.e. wait for email offers or make inquiries at the Emirates Check-in Counter).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Vergado, as I understand it, if the discount "J" buckets have plenty of availability then upgrade chances are much better. Different airlines can have different letters for their fare buckets, but in the case of EK, "I" seems represent a heavily discounted fare bucket, so if not sold then an upgrade may be the next best option to rake in points instead of $. But as always, upgrades are something of a lottery depending on how many pax have requested, relative status etc.

Welcome to AFF, Vergado.
In terms of getting an upgrade, asking for a free one at check-in would probably result in a 99.99% failure rate. For a paid upgrade, some airlines offer them cheaply, but others would simply reticket you at the current prices. I don't have that information myself although others may know more.

But as always, upgrades are something of a lottery depending on how many pax have requested, relative status etc.
Definitely agree with this part. Recently, I had 2 flights that had economy class closed, on the one with J9 D0 C0 I0, I had an op-up. On the one with J9 D9 C9 I9, I didn't get one.

Re: QF Upgrade Availaibility

Hi All
Just checked the loads for qf9 (mel to dxb only) on 15th december and business seems fairly light at this stage (although Y and F do too)

F9 A9 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U1 W2 R2 T2 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E9

Just wondering what people thought our chances were of an upgrade for 3 from Y-J?

Cheers

D9/I9 are seen as good indicators, and U1 means a classic reward is still in the mix which would be an even better marker. But 3 seats are harder to snag than 1 or 2. But I wish you every success if you do go for it.

That applies to waitlisted upgrades using FF point/miles etc. The person asking the question regarding "probability of obtaining a discounted or free Business Class upgrade". Free upgrades only happen with the booked cabin (i.e. economy or premium economy) is full/overbooked and there is space available in the higher cabin, and in almost all cases the people who will receive teh free upgrade are not those that ask but those that have high FF status or those seated where it is easiest to rearrange people to have family groups seated together. Without FF status or a lot of luck, its not something to even contemplate as an option.

But if you have requested an upgrade using FF points/miles, then the more available seats in the higher cabin means a greater probability that some people will have their FF points/miles upgrade confirmed - but again this is generally prioritised based on FF program status. Now in this case we are talking about an EK flight DXB-MEL, so unless the OP has status and miles in the EK program, the likelihood of an upgrade is low. I don't know if EK offers discounted upgrades via email solicitation in the days leading up to the flight as QF sometimes does. Others may know more about that aspect.

What type of waitlist (award redemption or something else)? Which booking class? Economy seems heavily booked, while business has a few more seats available, but given that it's an A330 operating, you don't really want to be in business as it's an inferior product to the rest of the SQ fleet.

And, as a note, it would be a great help for us if you also state the origin and destination of the flight. e.g. HKG-SIN as it's needed for the search.
