Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

I have been trying to use points but I suspect the simplest solution is to pay for airfare.

I can get SQ SYD-BKK return for ~$1100 in flexi saver departing 18 September and returning 22 September. That ties up Virging Gold for another 12 months. From there to CNX and back is cheap.

The Qantas airfare is around the same. I understand what you are saying but loadings look light to me ~6 weeks away.

There were award seats yesterday morning. Do I persevere a few more days for award to open up and risk revenue airfare increasing? One thing is clear though and that is points/miles have very little value on both QF and SQ. Need to rethink the points earning strategy.

Spend what you can now. The rest may not be worth much.

Ric the "etiquette" here is that the requester asks for departure and arrival airport as well as flight number and date. Unable to search according to flight number. Some flights are very well known but others require the person looking it up to confirm the departure and arrival airports.

The flight is wide open and good potential for Flex Y to J. Its still selling at fare buckets GKLMS (economy saver) below your Flex buckets BHY. It will now depend on your Tier status and whether any in W want to swop into J

Your B744 at the moment will be an unrefurbished one.

It seems there is only one seat occupied in Row 40 (first row in Economy cabin). Does this suggests that there may be no platinums or higher in Economy cabin?

46,47 are bulkhead seats which are I think is available after payment of a "fine"

Just checked QF site and currently they are happy to sell you 9 seats in F on both flights so looks like chances may be reasonable.

Hi everyone,

I have the same upgrade request on QF7 SYD-DFW on the 30/8. Firstly, I hope there is similar availability and chance for upgrade success on my flight but I really don't understand what it all means on EF.

Is someone able to give a quick lesson to at least get me started or at least put up a legend as to what flying class/bucket each of the letters mean
