PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

still heaps of F seats so potential for J to F upgrades.

Good luck!

Thank you! I hope a few J's get upgraded to F!

Looks like J will likely fill up over the next week.

I will post the outcome here when I find out.

Re: Upgrade chances next Friday, QF9 MEL-LHR

Just because seats are not showing as allocated that doesn't mean that seats haven't been sold. Some people don't choose seats and so the seats end up being allocated on check in (up to 24 hours before the flight).

I hadn't thought of this but it makes sense - better to rely on the flight load alphabet.

Reading back through this thread, I noticed that someone said that no "I" availability was not a good sign for the chance of an upgrade. Is this because it's a sale business fare, indicating good availability in business?

Yes QANTAS will offer a maximum of 9 seats in any individual fare class (e.g. F9 indicates they're willing to sell up to 9 First class seats).

Two factors suggest a poor chance here. Firstly, no availability in the cheaper Business class fare buckets (I and D) and secondly J (the most expensive Business class fare bucket) is only showing 7 seats available (rather than the more typical 9). This suggests an already heavy load in Business.

Re: Upgrade chances next Friday, QF9 MEL-LHR

Good luck!!

Interestingly, a search on the QANTAS website for a business class fare on QF9 on 16/12/16 now suggests no availability at all. Expert Flyer is still indicating 7 seats available but it looks like they might have all gone.

Instead the website is only selling business seats on QF1 or an Emirates flight changing to QF9 at DXB.

The F seats have gone on sale for $5,182. Would have been great except QANTAS won't upgrade one leg to F if the return leg is in premium economy or economy. Thought I had found a great solution!

Re: Upgrade chances next Friday, QF9 MEL-LHR

Would someone please check the F & J loadings for QF9 leaving Melbourne on the 15th December - debating whether to go for an upgrade - TIA

Are you travelling as far as Dubai or London?

Assuming that you're flying as far as Dubai, these are the loads. F looks almost full but there are still a few (limited) seats in J. Economy doesn't look full at all. (If travelling to LHR, there are only 4 J seats still available.)

Actually no.

F9 means 9 or more are available in F
Additionally a physical seat may have more than one fare bucket

F9 A9 = looks like 18 seats (and there are only 14 seats in First class) but it just means 9 or more seats are available in either F or A fare buckets.
So F9A9 might actually mean only 9 seats are left in First class or at the other end it's empty.

A number less than 9 means that number only.
F8 means only 8 fares are available for F fare

This is QF2, 11 Jan. Heaps of availability if F but I am new to all this so have no idea which has better chances. PS jealous you are in LHR a week longer than me.

Won't be in London all the time - have 8 days in Italy and hoping for a White Christmas

So my chances aren't looking great. QANTAS have stopped selling J fares altogether. Should I concentrate my efforts on getting a good Y seat? Heaps of space back there.

Short answer yes irregardles of what may or may not happen with the upgrade

I know this is a fairly open-ended question, but what is the average number of requests for upgrades vs upgrades granted on any given international flight?

Totally understand it depends on flight loads and number of frequent flyers etc, but is the average flight closer to 10 or 100 requests and actual 5-10 upgrades?
