PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Hi this is more of a general question, and understand that this is hard to answer... but here goes..
I have booked PE on QF1 and QF2 (SYD-LHR and vv) in May of next year and am about to lodge the upgrade request to J (have had to save up the points to do it).
My question is - seeing as these are the flagship flights, are upgrades to J quite rare? There are 2 of us on the PNR and I am SG.

Thanks

Hi, I need to make the long trip from LAX to PER on 17/02/2016 and can route either via BNE (747) or SYD (A380) for the same price. I'm hoping to get an upgrade but I'm only Silver, fares will be S bucket. Flight loadings at the moment through ExpertFlyer are:

QF16 J9 C9 D9 I0 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 G0
QF12 F7 A3 J9 C9 D9 I0 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 G0

Any advice on which flight I would have more chance on?

Thanks very much

I would reckon more chance on the A380 given there will surely be some upgrades from J to F creating more spots in J (assuming J is your preferred class?). But these loadings don't reveal too much at this stage.

Yes hoping for J although would be settle for W as well. I would assume there is more 'business' travel from LAX to SYD and that the J seats from LAX to BNE are less loaded but maybe that is a bad assumption?

I honestly wouldn't know - I think it's safe not to assume anything with long haul flights like this - so many variables.

Re: Need help to check seat availablity with flight redemption

It would help if you mentioned what flights in particular you're looking at, as well as the class of travel. I'm assuming that you're looking for Cathay/Dragonair flights via HKG and in economy.

As far as I can see, KA621 & CX173 are pretty much empty so far on 21/10/17 (in both classes). It's a similar story on 19, 22 and 24 October. I'd say waitlisting would likely result in getting the seats, but can't say for sure.

Also, FWIW, I can currently see 4x Y award seats available for KA621/CX173 from HGH-HKG-ADL departing 19 or 22 October.

Do you need to fly Cathay? Assuming that you're using Asia Miles, you would have access to seats on other oneworld airlines (even though you may need to ring up to book). If you can't get a direct HKG-ADL flight you should be able to find award availability via KUL, flying Malaysia Airlines from KUL to ADL.

sorry i was meant for business class. the flight i want is hgh - hkg, then hkg to adl, since there is no direct flight from hgh to adl.

the flight i am after availability is CX173 from hkg to adl, 4 business class seats, can split into 2 seats on multiple dates if needed.

Re: Need help to check seat availablity with flight redemption

Can someone please post loadings for VA540 and VA544 OOL-SYD on 30 December?

Trying to decide if worth getting to airport early if possible to fly ahead on business reward.

While these are "Flagship" flights, it is more about loadings and status in general. While I am not sure we have seen a number on the upgrades, there is no reason it might not be 6 or more depending on the loads. Then of course while SG is not the bottom of the rung, it gives way to CL/P/P1. The thing you can be sure of is that if other SG request upgrades, it goes by date lodged, so on that basis it is worth submitting it now to be closer to the head of the queue. Closer to the time, eg 7-10 days out we can check D/I availability, and of course some days mid week tend to have lighter loads, so plenty to think about.

Have just optimistically put in upgrade requests for two flights on a trip that has been booked for me at short notice as a bronze member. I don't know my codes but on SYD-DFW QF7 (3 January) my ticket must have been flexible economy based on the cost while on LAX-MEL QF96 (9 January) on the way back is a plain economy ticket. Am I a chance at all on either?

This is the loading for QF7 on 3 January: F5 A0 J3 C0 D0 I0 W0 R0 T0 Y0 B0 H0K0 M0 L0 G0
Economy and Premium Economy are full, and there are 3 seats available for sale in Business and 5 in First. I'd say your chances of getting the upgrade are next to nil, but I guess there's hope in the fact that the flight is probably oversold. As you've requested a points upgrade I'd say you'd have priority over a high status passenger receiving an operational (free) upgrade.

Here's QF96 on on 9 January: J5 C5 D0 I0 W2 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M7L7 V6 S6 G0
Not quite as full, but I'd still say your chances of upgrading are pretty low. Still a fair few seats empty in economy, but premium economy only has 2 seats left for sale and business may have as few as 5 remaining seats.

Might be a little early... but I was due to have my 'virgin' post

QF 117 on 16th Jan
QF 128 on 30th Jan

I am WP, but have the entire entourage with me.... meaning 4 seats required. I requested upgrade for QF 128 back in May (booked on the double SC deal) but haven't requested 117, as it was daytime, but now having second thoughts...

edit: BTW, long time lurker... love this forum, will be planning my 280K trips next year so have really appreciated the thread on it.

Welcome to AFF, neilmeister :)

These are the loads for QF117 on 16/1: J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9G0 E9

The flight actually looks pretty empty in both classes.

Here's QF128 departing 30/1: J9 C9 D0 I0 W3 R0 T0 Y3 B0 H0 K0 M0L0 G0

Your return flight is a different story - it's looking very full and will probably be oversold in Economy. Only 3 seats left for sale in both economy and premium, but still some business class seats remaining. I'd say your chances would actually be reasonable - as a Platinum member you'd be at the front of the upgrade priority queue, particularly considering that they'll likely have to process a few upgrades in order to free up some economy seats. Needing 4 seats might work against you, but hopefully not!

Points upgrade tomorrow?

Hi all,

I'm on QF93 tomorrow in Premium Economy and generally try to use my points to upgrade to Business. I haven't heard and its now past the time that I usually hear and I was just speaking to Qantas FF rep on an unrelated matter and happened to ask and was told there was no availability. I'm sure I saw a thread on hear about checking availability but can't seem to find it now!

I'm asking because qantas still has J fare availability for the flight tomorrow on their website. Am I out of luck?

Thanks all and Happy New Year!

Cheers,
James
