PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

For Questions about Aircraft Configuration and Seat Availability, please use this thread:

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I just want to make sure I am interpreting fare buckets properly, I really need this upgrade as I am in Y on a narrowbody redeye DPS-SYD.........

In a VA narrowbody J (SYD/BNE - DPS) I assume J will always represent all the seats left? ie. J8 will mean empty business class? Mine shows J5 C3 Y7 B7 H7 K7 L7 E73/8 seats sold seems like good chances? (travelling end of the month, being a leisure route I doubt many fares get purchased last min).

Also, I noticed Y bucket normally has 9 tickets left, if it is showing Y7 does that mean that there are only 7 seats left in Y? or does VA only release 7 at a time instead of 9?

Y,B, H, K, L, E etc at the price "buckets" in the economy cabin. Y being full price economy and cheaper ones are the B, H et etc

Y7 means 7 are available for purchase as full price but these 7 can also be sold as B or H or K etc.

Have a look at post #1 of this thread.

As I understand it, VA searches on EF show a maximum of 7 seats, and QF shows 9. So if you get J7, Y7 on VA it is a minimum of 7 seats available, but on QF J7 would mean a maximum of 7 seats. In your case it is J5 (so only 5 seats to be sold, some potentially in a discount bucket C), and Y7 means at least 7 but perhaps more. Upgrade chances improve with higher status, and still possible in your case - hard to predict.

Thanks. That answered my question. I had the impression all carriers will always have Y9/J9 until less than 9 seats are available.

There are a few variations - the "much loved" Jetstar (JQ) only shows 4 seats from memory.

Looks too tight, especially for two & PS, I'd say.

Is it possible to check in ExpertFlyer if a specific QF flight SYD-BNE turns around the same night? Is this information only known when registration numbers are allocated?

QF542 departs SYD at 17:30 on say Sunday 04 September and arrives in BNE at 19:00.

From BNE QF555 departs at 19:55. Is that QF542? There are later flights QF557 departing 20:15 and QF559 departing 21:00 but trying to do quicker turnaround.

Why? It costs $105 to change existing booking including $88 change fee. If that's the case I'll happily spend $220 to earn 40SCs and obviously take the flights.

Domestic flights seem to only allocate an aircraft on that day
But historically,

QF542 became QF553 at 1935 3 out of 6 times in the last 7 days but never QF557. Not really a guarantee

In September a 19:00 arrival would be too early to turnaround for a 19:25 departure unless you mean QF542 becomes QF555 which is a 55 minute turnaround?

Think best I book QF557 the 20:15 return flight. No luggage and if arriving early can ask in the lounge to move to QF555.

Nope, for example (Look at VH-VYA on the 9th May)

QF542 Scheduled Arrival in BNE 1900
QF553 Scheduled Departure from BNE 1935 (35 Min Turnaround)

What do you think of my odds of a points upgrade to J on Qf7 & QF8 are?
QF7 SYD - DFW 16th June & QF8 DFW - SYD 25th June. WP status applied 2 weeks ago.

Looking for experience and probability really.
I can see the seat map in EF and have checked recent flights to see what they look like. If the upgrade comes though at T48 are all seats open for WP or are still some reserved? Im hoping to get a forward window rather than an aisle.
I currently have Y+ seat 24A so am debating if i should keep the upgrade or cancel closer if no J windows are free. Thoughts are also appreciated on that.

At the moment QF7 on the 16th looks okayish but a bit too close to call.
QF8 on the 25th is wide open but it's a long way off.

Domestically Qantas allocate specific aircraft to specific flights four days in advance.

On the golden triangle only about half of these allocastions actually hold up to the time of travel.

Interesting. Appreciate the information. Thanks.

Think I'll go with my plan of later flight and sort out issues on the day.

Looking to book SIN - SYD on QF6 on 1 June.
Ideally want to travel in Business, what do you think the odds of being offered the chance to Bid to Upgrade?
And as a non-QF member, how much cash do you think would be needed?

Welcome to AFF! :D
