PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Hi, I'm traveling on QF9 to LHR from MEL on Tuesday 11th September.

We have flexible tickets from MEL to LHR and I have requested points upgrade to Business or failing that PE. I have Qantas Gold status.

Not having much luck either on the phone or chat confirming if there is any spare capacity. I would really appreciate the load status for this flight.

Also (and apologise if this is the wrong forum) but how close to departure do upgrades get confirmed (and do they tell you if you have been unsuccessful)?

Thanks in advance.

It's pretty full:

Typically WP1 are notified up to 7 days in advance, WP 60 hours, SG 48 hours. If the flight is full then from 24 hours and until departure time.

Still J7 C3 (it went up to J8 and now back to J7).

Looks like I've survived the WP1 upgrades, hopefully not too many WPs. I'm in Premium Economy so I'm assuming I'll be at the top of the list for SG upgrades.

Any idea how many seats they keep for last minute sales / changes? I'm guessing on a 787 it would be about 2.

I’m also a Qantas Gold and did that flight three weeks ago MEL to LHR. Despite the availability a few days earilier (8BC and 12PE) I remained in Economy on the day? Qantas operates claimed I was pumped by P, P1 etc. Really, there were that many higher status flyers?

I think it's also fare class now - so SG who paid more than you would get upgraded first

QF2 LHR-SYD, Oct 13, booked in L. Anyone able to tell me what upgrade availability looks like for J and Y+?

I expect my chances are... not good, given that it's QF2, I'm only PS, and I'm booked in L rather than a Flex fare. But I may as well play the upgrade lottery, I have more points than I know what to do with at present so I might as well...

Fare class likely has something to do with it. I believe that qantas have a formula that has some SG passengers PerCeiVed* to be of more value to Qantas than other SG. They get the upgrade.

*Look up PCV.

Y+ is full and only 7 seats in J. And it’s more than a month away.

Thanks, I suspected it would be pretty bad - didn't realise it would be quite that level of bad but then again that's not too surprising given that L was the lowest fare I could book...

Oh well, 50+ hours in economy over 6 flights, here I come :D

I think that's for op-ups. For points rewards I would hazard a guess it follows the list on their website in reverse order:
  • Classic Flight Reward Economy to Premium Economy
  • Economy~~~ (excluding Discount Economy E, N, O and Q class₪) to Premium Economy (where availableπ)
  • Flexible Economy~~~ to Premium Economy (where availableπ)
  • Classic Flight Reward Economy to Business
  • Economy~~~ (excluding Discount Economy E, N, O and Q class₪) to Business
  • Flexible Economy~~~ to Business
  • Classic Flight Reward Premium Economy to Business
  • Discount Premium Economy, Premium Economy or Flexible Premium Economy (where availableπ) to Business
  • Discount Business, Business or Flexible Business to First.
It makes financial sense for Qantas to upgrade any passenger in Premium Economy (within tiers) before anyone in Economy - because that lets Qantas double dip on two lots of upgrades.
