PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Welcome to AFF bxs

For the outbound, are you meaning a departure in September (given the return is in October).

If yes, 28/9 shows J9 C9 D9 I9 which (to me) thinks there is a good chance of a points upgrade. At the back is relatively empty so chances of op-up are slim (W9 R9 R5 T3 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L1 V8 S6 N1 G0 E0).

For the inbound, 12/10 shows J9 C9 D9 I3 which (to me) thinks there is a good chance of a points upgrade. At the back shows W4 R1 T0 Y9 B0 H0 K1 M0 L0 G0 E0 so looks much fuller in that instance. That said, the inbound is around a month away so alot of things/changes could happen between now and then.

Good luck.

QF52 shows J9 C9 D9 I9 and most economy buckets are also 9's including X9 (awards). Very light load imo so depending on your status, there is a very good chance of a points upgrade.

QF10 shows F2 A2 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 and economy looks pretty full. Good chance of a points upgrade.

You might be stuck in economy, QF5 shows J4 3 D3 I3 W0 R0 T0, so Premium Economy is full at this stage (pending upgrades/cancellations).

Thanks for the info. It looks like that there will be lots of empty seats on QF 52. On QF 10 i am in Y+. Can you see if that is full or not? If it is i am hoping that they can bump to to J. This is what happened last week on QF 9

Thanks very much Serfty.

I'm looking at flying Business on points which from what I understand is U class (which isn't listed). Is there a way to check availability besides making a booking on the site?

U class is certainly award business class on QF flights. E/F will show this if there is availability on QF flight searches.

However, with the CX flights you'll need to call QFF and ask.

Hi there,

May I please get the upgrade chance for a gold FF and partner from plat economy to business on QF01 and QF31 for 29/9?

Cheers!

Hi all

I have never used my points to arrange an upgrade. Is there any expert with advice on what the most cost-effective strategy is - both in terms of $ and points. More specifically, if Im trying to get my wife from SYD to LHR and back in Jan by buying an economy seat and then upgrading with points. How do i best do that and what are the caveats? Thanks in advance, Steve

Does anyone have the latest "circle asia" prices for One World for 13,000 and 17,000 miles, please. Would like econ and business.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Steve,

the problem with this is that the upgradeable fares are more expensive and that upgrades are not confirmed. It is just a lottery which depends on frequent flyer status (CL, WP, PS and NB) and offcourse loadings.

so its not like US airlines where you can get a guaranteed upgrade in advance...?

no, unfortunately not. The way it works here is that you apply for the upgrade months in advance and then just before departure you find out if the request was successful or not. Not a nice system in my opinion but that's it.

any advice on what is the cheapest fare to buy that might (in theory) be upgradeable?

you can not upgrade E, N, O or Q fares which are the cheapest tickets. From S class (classed as discount economy) you can upgrade to either premium Y or J. I think the S class fare starts at round 2400 + tax depending on when travel is for and off-course availability of the booking class...
