PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Serfty you are made of hardy stuff to travel in Y to America. I gave up booking and trying to upgrade on points even so if an award is not showing first up I don't book it at all.

Here's an interesting one for a flight next week:

What made me laugh was CX's wording as to why I couldn't pick a seat (are they saying im fat? ), this then grabbed my interest, why not I thought?
Here's the grabs from the relevant sites.

looks like a good candidate for a Op-Up, thoughts?

OK, will give an (points) upgrade a go for Mrs TK and I BKK-SYD on Sat 09 Mar. EF tells me 11/36 J seats are allocated with J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B2 rest zeroed out (although L fares still for sale).

I guess any plats seeking upgrades will have been told by now, so as a QC NB, how is it looking for two of us? I'm tempted to think OK, but who knows how many SG and PS there are ahead of us, sigh. :-(. We failed miserably outbound ....

Cheers, TK

As a NB it really is a lottery, Whilst availability is looking good you are a very long way down the totem pole.

If it were me i would be prepared to travel in the class booked and if you got the upgrade then great, but prepare your mind/body/soul to travel in whY.

QF Op Up Chances?

So I'm booked into X class on the following flight. Was put onto a much earlier flight after QF cancelled the afternoon QF87 service. Which was most annoying as was counting on some F lounge time.

Anyway, it looks like Y and PE are full. What are my chances of an op up? Presume I'll only be able to get a one class upgrade if any (i.e. Y to Y+?)

Are you WP?

On the A380 I suspect there'd be a lot of people applying to upgrade with points which would get processed before op-ups.

Good point on the points upgrade.
Yes am WP but travelling wit someone who will be only PS at that time.

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

i just flew to and back hongkong in the last few weeks, both times on A380, both times upgraded to Y+. Once was travelling with a PS on different PNR, he got upgraded at check-in.

although i must say, i prefer Y to Y+ on the A380.

We were delayed at gate on departure and arrival for 1+ hours. could not watch the TV. seat next to me was empty, can't lift arm rest and have 2 seats. no foot rest netting like Y. that Y+ foot rest thing is a joke.

Upgrade BKK-SYD cleared by the time I awoke on Sat morning. Selected 04E/F, with about half of the 36 J seats allocated.

Good sleep, but a very minimal meal service. As others have noted there was a choice of four lights snacks on departure, then either a ham croissant or fruit compote about 90 mins prior to arrival. Glad it was a points upgrade as I'd thought this was poor value if $2500 had been spent on a one-way J flight......

There were some 7 Qantas employees seeking upgrades as well.

That would be a perfect occasion to use my points, rather than chancing it with op-ups IMHO.

But, is QF protective of their F cabin (like SQ) where it would rather allow a half-empty F cabin even when there are requests for points upgrade from status pax (WP or SG) ?

Does anyone know QF's philosophy and/or practice on this front ?

I think QF is trying harder to offload seats for points upgrades compared to previously and wouldn't be as protective as SQ. See the experiences on http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ional-upgrades-improved-experience-35285.html.

In the last 18 months I have had two business to first points upgrades. That was 2/2 requests. Don't know if that helps much....it gives some data
