PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

I think QF is trying harder to offload seats for points upgrades compared to previously and wouldn't be as protective as SQ. See the experiences on http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ional-upgrades-improved-experience-35285.html.

Thanks for the link

Some positive (post #92) , but also negative experiences (post #104) there.

However, I'd agree that points upgrade would stand a better chance than expecting an op-up which may never eventuate, esp as a WP or SG.

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

How far out do these numbers generally become meaningful? I'm booked for a bunch of flights in December, and QF107 SYD-LAX is obviously showing heaps of availability at the moment.

I'm on an X class ticket so won't be able to get an upgrade or anything, more interested in knowing how full the whY cabin is going to be. Is it a couple of days, weeks, a month beforehand that you can interpret much from the loadings?

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

In the last 18 months I have had two business to first points upgrades. That was 2/2 requests. Don't know if that helps much....it gives some data
Ditto for us 2/2 MEL - LAX and LAX - SYD last Sept/Oct.

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

That would be a perfect occasion to use my points, rather than chancing it with op-ups IMHO.

But, is QF protective of their F cabin (like SQ) where it would rather allow a half-empty F cabin even when there are requests for points upgrade from status pax (WP or SG) ?

Does anyone know QF's philosophy and/or practice on this front ?

On QF127/128 at least, I often see availability drop from F9 to F4 one or two days before departure.
I'm guessing the influx is due to upgrades being processed.

It's really too far out to tell, although December flights (especially later in the month) are often quite full in economy.)

Totally understand that you can't tell now, just wondering (out of interest more than anything) when it does become relevant.

Do most of the seats get sold 6 months out? 3 months? 2 weeks? etc etc

The answer is no one knows, unfortunately. You could have a wide open cabin then at the last minute a group booking is made, or people change their flights to be on the same day as yours, or some cheap seats are offered and people make the most of the opportunity, etc...
Or on the other hand it could be full and a group decide to change dates, cancel, etc.

I'm sure the airlines have modelled their data using some sort of algorithm which in turn helps them determine yield management but I'm fairly certain that info is not available to the public and is somewhat "commercially sensitive".

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

Hey guys, can anyone look up QF94 for me?

Leaving late evening on March 12, US time (in about 10hrs).

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

Hi Everyone

Wondering how QF9 is looking for upgrade Y to J on 30th March to Singapore only. Cheers

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

Looking pretty good, would appear Y is oversold with only Y bucket available.

Thanks markis arent you also on that flight?

Hope that QF10 on the 31st is the same too :D

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

Great, thanks Fiona! :)

You're welcome :)
Ok pundits what do you think the chances of J-F upgrade on this flight in 2 days:
QF 9 SIN 10:55p → LHR 5:10a
F2 A2 J9 C9 D9 I9 W0 R0 T0 Y9 B1 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0

6 unallocated seats in the F cabin, fingers crossed but I'm not really hopeful

Re: QF Op Up Chances?

Does anyone have any data points for international WP upgrade requests? Are they coming anywhere near T-48 hours as mentioned on the Qantas website?

I could only secure a JASA for QF1 SYD-SIN 19 Mar (managed to get FASA's SIN-LHR 25 Mar and LHR - (DXB) - SYD 29 Apr so no dramas there). We were : on QF 5 on 21 Mar but when a chance came up to swap to an A380 albeit a couple of days earlier I took it.

Current loadings are:
F7 A7 J2 C0 D0 I0 W0 R0 T0 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N2 Q9 O2 G0 X9 E0

With around 22 hours to run EF only shows 2 allocated seats in F. There are 9 unallocated seats in J, which doesn't correlate to J2 above. The only thing I can think of is that it is currently an old config plane and maybe they are hedging their bets incase a new config is swapped in at some stage and trying to leave some empty seats in J?

Any opinions on if our J - F upgrades will come through? Has anyone been getting the SMS?

I can't comment on when the SMS can be expected to arrive, but with F7 A7 it appears you have a good chance of getting your upgrade.

Another point is that the number of unallocated seats on the seatmap and the number of seats available for sale may not necessarily correlate.
Remember that once your flight is ticketed, it will not automatically assign you a seat - for the most part you have to do that yourself, unless you are an exception to the rule (CL or similar).
In your case I would submit that there are at least a few pax who have not allocated their seats yet and would probably do so when checking in at the terminal.

My most recent upgrade, last week, didn't clear until T-24 so I wouldn't be too concerned at this stage.
Yes, did receive the SMS but that was preempted by an EF seat alert.
Looks like Y+ is sold out (maybe oversold?) so that could push things forward.

As P1 I would have thought you would get more notice than that given they advertise 'up to 7 days out'.
What seat class do you set for the EF alert? Or do you put your existing seat in to be alerted when it becomes vacant?

My request was from Y+ to J with J being wide open so, yes, I was thinking it might've cleared sooner but c'est la vie.
I used my existing seat number as an alert and got the email about half an hour before the SMS.
