PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Umm....stupid me again! What on earth do those numbers mean for me, am I likely to be squished to death with other passengers in Premium Economy, or is it possible I will get some space and possibly even some sleep...?
W6 & W7 mean 6 and 7 PE seats available for sale on the respective flights, so yes, fairly full PE cabins.

Re: y+ to J

How did your request go?

I find it odd that people asks for info / informed guesses about their upgrade chances etc.... and many gurus here are willing and able to shed some light on various questions.

But bugger me if I know whether their upgrade was successful or not.

Its absence prevents any further feedbacks / validation to our guesses and that is somewhat annoying.

Why spend time typing questions asking for help / info and then we are all in no-better situation to learn!

Hi legroom

are you referring to my request for info ?
If so I made my response when my upgrade was successful

Good on you

I missed that 14/5/13 post of yours!

Scrolling through iPhone sometimes does that to you.

That was a positive response so we could sort of learn for ourselves in the future.

J9 means at least nine seats available for sale in business - the seat map shows about 20 seats not allocated.
W4 means four available for sale in PE, so fairly full and maybe even being oversold.
So, I would guess a good chance of a points upgrade, though you don't mention your status and that will be a significant factor.

THe J9 C9 D9 I9 suggests plenty of space in J, so depending on your QF status (Cl beats P1 beats WP... and the rest can cross their fingers :) ), and if you applied for the upgrade awhile ago then I'd think you have a shot.

Mind you, F is basically full so the Js won't be going anywhere, and the X9 E9 suggests not much pressure to move people in Y to PE, either.

Re: Upgrade probability tomorrow

Would really appreciate some guru knowledge here .. my little sister is on QF107 on 6 June S"YD-JFK. Shje's on a QF/OW RTW tickets, SYD-JFK-LHR, not sure how she's getting back to Aus. routing wise. She also hurt her back ~4wks ago, much worse than I hurt mine. She's now worried a bit about the travel in Y, and seeing what she can do to UG herself and husband to Y+. TA has advised a $$ amount they're not willing to spend to UG the tickets to Y+ ($3600pp or maybe that was for both?? But I suspect PP, as they are in Y in a non-points-upgradeable bucket). TA has also advised that they can only UG to Y+ for all the way to LHR, not just LAX or JFK (just LAX would not be possible I understand because it's all one flight code).

I've looked at FlightStats and am seeing SYD-JFK:
W/9 R/9 T/0 Z/0 Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/9 L/9 V/9 S/9 N/9 Q/9 O/9

Two weeks out til the flight, and she's NB, and I think hubs is QP NB, so bugger all status. But both Y and Y+ are not looking overly sold out at this stage.

TA has also suggested to try to upgrade with $$ at checkin. I can't remember hearing of people successfully doing this ex-SYD? I have heard of it ex-SIN and other locations, but not Aus.

I don't feel comfortable recommending the UG attempt at the airport (well, try it, but don't hold your breath it'll work). *If* the loads stay like that, it might be worth upgrading their ticket to S level, and trying for points lottery ... any thoughts from more knowledgeable gurus than me??
[During our phone conversation today, as I was checking she was on QF107, as well as mentioning "I didn't realise there was more than one type of economy fare" she also said that talking to me was like "talking to an airline". Man, if she met some other AFFers, she'd figure out I'm just a lightweight!! ;)]
