PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

For Questions about Aircraft Configuration and Seat Availability, please use this thread:

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Thanks heaps - funny how it doesn't include 'I' which is the class shown on the waitlist...

LoungeSuit, Mrs LoungeSuit and two (fairly) small LoungeSuits currently sitting in SilverKris Lounge Sydney. All 4 upgrades to I confirmed for SYD-SIN. Took 2 hours to negotiate at check in but happy days are here again

Re: Flight Availability/Loading & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

I know I am usually disappointed when I get my hopes up but is this a good flight to be on?

I am in premium economy and can see only 3 unallocated seats on QF seatmap. I cannot see economy seat map.

Could this flight be too full to expect an op-up? Still 5 days to go.

Depends on how many pax have put their points down for an upgrade, I guess. At the moment, the J seat map looks half-empty. No point seeing the Y seat map as most pax wouldn't have made their seat choices yet.

Re: Flight Availability/Loading & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

What are chances of an op-up if a QF flight has economy seats available, but there are more staff on standby than the available seats? Would Qantas op-up any passenger to make room for the staff on standby?

Thanks. Even more interesting now at T-42 hours.

I think op-up chances are looking better.

Hi all - my partner and I flew EK to Europe in November and to our shock, we informed that economy was oversold and were being upgraded to business at check-in (we have cheap Econ fares), I'm a Qantas Gold. Now the flight from DXB to LGW wasn't full, so no upgrade . Due to the horrendous seat layout on the 777s, I ended up with back pain (like bent over pain) for the first time in my life. We've decided if we can get decent (subjective term in this circumstance) J or Y+ we'll consider it. However, I thought I'd get views on lightning striking twice and the chances of an op-up?

LGW-DXB EK12 6/1/14
DXB-SYD EK412 8/1/14

From my pretty ignorant knowledge on how this works... it looks like Y is packed and likely oversold, but J looks not too bad...

Any advice/thoughts would be welcome.

412 is looking pretty full!

Indeed - and despite DXB-LGW giving me the back pain, that one doesn't bother me, but 412 is worrying me and thinking whether I'll be able to walk upright once I get to Sydney lol - does that mean there are 7 empty seats total in J?

Nope it means there are at least 7 seats available.

Welcome to AFF by the way! ;) Fellow Canberran here!

Thanks! Long time lurker

it's tricky to understand all of this lingo - it's difficult to tell if that's a positive re: op-up chances, as that looks very similar to the make up I saw a week out from the first flight in November. I'd say a good 30-40% of business on that flight were upgrades.

And don't forget the 4 seats (at least) in F. Hehehe

See post one of this thread, which has a link to this: Understanding Expert Flyer

Thanks, by reading over that, you will have to forgive my ignorance on how this works, that suggests that business and first on the flight out of DXB is probably pretty lightly filled and Y is probably oversold?... Hmmm some decent J fares out of DXB through HK on CP to consider, ugh I don't like uncertainty!

My my cross to bear, thanks for your help.

Additional - I noticed that flight status and EF are giving different numbers, and the seat maps for the flights might be misleading?

Fare bucket availability can be varied by airlines depending on several facets, such as Geographical location and/or Country of purchase, selling agency, etc.

See here: www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/...program/why-my-ta-seeing-different-22664.html

Not sure by what you mean by seat maps though - they are what are returned by the airline upon a query.

Hi,

Currently on a waitlist for the following SQ flights for a J Saver Award.

SQ392 - SIN-IST - 21 Jun 2014
SQ211 - SIN-SYD - 3 Sep 2014

What is the current loads or seats available in J for these flights?

You would really have to wait until a week or two before the flight to get a reasonable idea.

SQ392: Z4 C4 J4 D0 S9 Y9 B9 E9 M9 H0 W0Q0 U0 G0 L0 K0

SQ211: F4 P4 A3 Z4 C4 J4 D4 S9 Y9 B9 E9 M9H9 W9 Q9 N0 U0 G0 L0 K0

Looks like EK12 on Monday is full in Y now... time to pray they overbooked and the op-up Gods smile upon me and my back
:)

Had an interesting thing happen to me today.

Went to transfer desk C in SIN to get boarding pass for QF6 and also ensure luggage was transferred from previous flight. I was asked if final destination was BNE and I said yes but I am going to SYD first. She then gets on phone and tries to get me on direct flight SIN-BNE. Kept telling me flight was full and she will put me on direct flight. After a few minutes managed to convince her I do not want the direct flight and I really want to go to SYD for a few hours before going to BNE.

She looked puzzled.

I'm in PE on QF128 this Saturday 11/1 and wondering whether to do a points upgrade or hope for an op-up. Flight Stats shows:

F/9 A/9 P/0
J/9 C/9 D/3 I/0 U/0
W/9 R/5 T/0 Z/0 Y/0 B/0 H/0 K/0 M/0 L/0 V/0 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

I'm also pondering whether I should put in the points upgrade and hope for the double upgrade to F. I know a SG who got that once from PE, put in points upgrade for J and ended up in F.
