PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Re: Upgrade Likely QF1?

A is also first, but just a discounted fare bucket. Same applies to C and D for business. Y is full fare economy, and all the others are various levels of discounted economy, with E, N, O and Q being bottom of the pile.

Re: Upgrade Likely QF1?

I also presume then that the numbers next to the letters are the number of seats left to sell - so as you say there is only 1 in F and that would mean there are 9 in J?

The 9 means at least 9 J fares are available to be sold. Other carriers show only a max of 7 for example.

It doens't always correlate to seats available as well. For example if it was showing F9 J9 it might indicate that although J was full they were willing to sell J fares and put people in F.

Re: Upgrade Likely QF1?

Thanks Mr Orange - that link is good, and explains a lot.

So looking at the letters/number combo again it shows F is busy, J still has a fair bit of availability and Y+ is busy - so good hopes for an upgrade from Y+ to J but not from J to F - is this correct?

With all this education - I will get there (just not sure where!)

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Could someone please lookup the seating availability on QF9 for 12th July leaving Melbourne? I'd like to see which seats are actually taken rather than blocked. Economy if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance :)

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a way to see loads for Tigerair flights?
I did a search but it returned nothing, I also hope this wasn't a stupid question.

Thanks, Ben

Upgrade question

I am flying to Europe and I have an opportunity to upgrade one leg of the flights.

In my current scenario I have one way ticket SYD-SNG in economy for which I put in an upgrade request through the online system to J class (45k points). It’s a day flight so minimal amount of sleeping. From there on I already have J class all the way to Europe and back home to Sydney.

I am currently only Gold FF and from what I understand, chances of getting upgraded with Qantas even when using FF points are super low, we are talking low single digit %.

There is a seat on the same flight I can purchase for 45k points plus $250 taxes in Premium Economy which I can do right now. Cancelling the existing economy ticket would get me back $300 out of what I paid for it.

Is it worth it getting a guaranteed Premium Economy ? I can also then request for upgrade to J class for 25k points I think.

Or should I just keep the way things are and hope for the upgrade? I bought the ticket and requested the upgrade back in Feb so I would be one of the first in the queue at my level or below.

Alternatively, can people who successfully upgraded their international flights using points online post their experiences? i.e. how early did they request upgrade and what status were they and when was the upgrade awarded?

Cheers in advance.

Re: Upgrade question

It all depends on flight loadings. You are ahead of silver and bronze members but behind platinums/P1s/CL in the pecking order.
If buying a Y+ seat and cancelling your Y booking will really only cost you 45k points (and you'll end up $50 ahead) I would say go for it. On a day flight Y+ is fine so if you go that route I would say don't even bother with the J upgrade request.

If you post your actual flight details someone with an ExpertFlyer subscription may be able to check the availability in the various classes which can give you a better indication of how likely your upgrade is to succeed.

Re: Upgrade question

I'm assuming you mean SIN not SNG (as that's in South America ;)).

IMHO i'd be putting the request in for J with the 'fall back' to Premium. Premium is a huge step up from Economy, and whilst it used to be 'business light' it's still better than 'Economy plus' (i'd say it's about half way between the two now). Well worth the use of points.

Remember, you're still in front of NB, PS, QP PS, OW R and OW S's ;)

Re: Upgrade question

You're flying to San Ignacio De Velasco (SNG)? Or Singapore (SIN)? I think the latter. :)

As you've noted it's a day flight, do you really need J? If so go for the points upgrade? Or if you're just wanting a little bit more comfort then maybe pay for the exit row seat. If you're on the A380 flight there are also some other great Y seats you may get for free.

A pertinent reminder is of course always expect to fly the cabin you've paid for. So even if you pay that much for Y+ then you may well end up there.

Just another series of thoughts and of course you'll get a few here to consider.

Happy flying.

Re: Upgrade question

I wouldn't hold your breath for the upgrade though - we used to have them virtually every time we put in for one but over the past few years they seem to have all but dried up.
Agree that Y+is fine for a day flight - very comfortable IMO.

Re: Upgrade question

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah sorry, its Singapore (SIN)!

The flight is on 6[SUP]th[/SUP] September departing Sydney 1:10pm QF5 so if someone can check for me what is the load like that would be much appreciated. Alternatively, is this the right place to look ?:

http://www.flightstats.com/go/Fligh...ryTime=C&cabinCode=A&numOfSeats=1&queryType=D

Yeah it basically comes down to either playing the lottery or just getting the Y+. I am leaning towards Y+ and need to decide asap as someone else might snap up that seat but wanted to hear opinions about the chances of getting the upgrade in first place.

Also, I requested for business class upgrade but also fallback with Premium Economy option.

Looking like this right now:

J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Z3 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E9

Nothing coming up in the 'U' bucket, which I think is what you want for the J upgrade award.
There are 3 PE award seats in the 'Z' fare bucket currently.
Not a lot sold otherwise, but you're still some way out.

Cheers.

As I have posted on another forum, I have never not gotten a points upgrade with QFi. All my upgrades thus far have been processed.

The flights have all been booked Y+ with a J request.

Not sure if is because QF do very well selling PE seats (hence the extra's on the reconfig of the A380) and they know that the premium seats will sell anyhoo, or if I'm just plain lucky.

thanks ... so what does that mean ? When do the U buckets become available ?the flight is only 8 weeks away.

with the Z seats, does it mean there are 3 available ? when do they get allocated? why wouldnt they already allocate these to those who requested upgrades ? e.g. I requested upgrade to J with fallback to Y+ so why wouldnt they allocate me at least Y+ at this stage.
