Flight delayed, missed connection and abandoned by Qantas

Mask up, or possibly invest in a space suit. I’ve just spent a delightful week quarantined at the Ritz in Vienna after testing positive the night we arrived. They are still treating covid seriously here.
My experience end of June, was the Bavarians are super officious on the trains about masks as well. Ironically, the conductor ranting at me about not following the rule to wear a surgical or N95 mask was wearing a cloth mask. He refused to accept my compromise to wrap my spare T-shirt around my face.

Agreed or hire a car and drive.
I wouldn’t hang about in LHR for 12 hours and faff around with left luggage when I could be in MAN long before if that’s the destination.
agree. Have driven from LHR to Manchester in November and it was quicker and less stressful than changing terminals and flying, then train from MAN to the city. Two of us so it was cheaper as well.

Ahhh ... but this a FF forum and you'd miss out on the 40SCs (assuming J) - never let SC-mania get in the way of sensible !! 😁

Isn't it about time the Australian Government introduced legislation such as Europe?

The European Regulation EC261 rule is an extensive bit of legislation that requires airlines to compensate passengers in the event of:

  • Denied boarding
  • Flight cancellation
  • Long delay of flights (three or more hours)
Under EC261 you may be eligible for compensation reaching up to EUR 600 if your flight is delayed by more than 3 hours or gets canceled. AirHelp helps air passengers around the world secure compensation for delayed, canceled, or overbooked flights.

We have used the trains several times and even with only our cabin bags it is a pain. Getting the luggage across town to Euston and fighting for space on the small racks they provide would be difficult. Our standard carry-ons won't fit in the overhead racks and so we don't really find it easy at all. Plus train strikes are ongoing at present, so a lottery at this stage.
The cancellations yesterday at KGX were as bad as I have ever seen them. Heat related track issues and speed reductions all around.

We enjoy the rail journeys, but not with large suitcases as I discussed earlier. And on top of the effects of the drought on the railway infrastructure there is ongoing strikes over pay. We have booked a hire car in case the tag flight to MAN falls through, but we are really in the realms of least worst options at this point.

If only! We are in Y, and while the rest of the trip is in DSC territory, it will be max 10sc for the flight LHR-MAN.

However this thread is about scheduled MCT and so I still feel 2 hours at ADL is enough for a comfortable connection. :)
Yes that may be OK in ADL but you'll be arriving from somewhere and it's just too risky.

Take my next trip. BNE-SYD-BKK on QF on a Friday morning. I toyed with the idea of coming down Friday morning with a connection of around 2 hours but quickly scrapped that thought.

BNE-SYD can be trouble at that time of the morning especially if fog in SYD. If I miss SYD-BKK flight the next Qantas flight is Sunday assuming there's seats available.

I've just lost 2 days of my holiday and worse still wife and daughter are flying down from CNX Friday afternoon and we will meet and head to Pattaya together. If I'm 2 days late they'll need to head down on their own and we'll have 2 lots of taxi costs and lots of headaches and stress.

I'm lucky that mum and dad are in SYD and I'll come down a week early. Airlines are very unreliable right now and with my luck not worth risking.
