I had an interesting "fly ahead" experience yesterday.
A client had booked me on an ATR dog ROK-BNE and I was determined to use fly ahead to get the 737 but given the amount of road work around ROK I was delayed many times, but........a glimmer of hope as the news was reporting a fire in VA dom BNE which was delaying all flights. Great (sort of....no one injured in the fire I hope), I was only going to be about 10-15 min away from normal close off time.
Arrived at the terminal hastily trying to see if a 737 was there and no......I'd beaten it so I hurried up to the check-in counter to arrange my much sought after fly ahead, only to be informed they had already closed off the flight
.......before it had even landed (actually about 1/2 an hour before it landed). I was heart broken. My face must have been a window to my soul as the lovely Sam said to me, "if it's the ATR, I can give you the later E-jet". "Oh yes please!" and she then really made my day by giving me 2A (I did mention that I had never tried the single seats in the E-Jet before).
So, I wanted the fly ahead, but in the end got a fly behind. Sheer bliss......I do like the E190s and always have. Why oh why did VA ditch the E170 for the flying dash hound? (rhetorical markis10...I have no concern for the fuel burn).
In the end, despite delays, I had a truly enjoyable flight instead of being forced to endure the park bench with wings. An odd win, but a win nonetheless!
