Given that Platinum status was not introduced until Sep 2001, that is truly remarkable!

Not to rein on the parade, but I received the same message too, first time i've logged into QFF to view my profile since my Anniversary date, and I got the same. Still showing I need 0/1200 SC's to retrain Plat by 31-Dec-15.
 
Recently got a new WP card, ending 6/2016. A week or so ago, I asked for a new set of WP coasters because my current set are just over 3 years old. Both the tags and new card arrived on the same day. The website is saying 6/2015 is my expiry and I am nowhere near requalification, so I called to confirm.
They said I was "manually retained" and that my WP extends until 2016! and told me to ignore the website because there is some sort of delay.
Yay. Go QF. Interestingly enough I have bookings in the first 3 months of next membership year to get me to WP.
 
Data point.

Been WP or higher for many years, received one comp in that period. Was dropped back to LTG in March with forward bookings in the system amounting to 1340SC in the first three months of the new year.

Reached WP (1400SC) at end of May ... received new WP card yesterday with expiry date of March 2017.

Forward bookings didn't account for much when my assessment was up in Feb ... or, the one comp already received excluded any further manipulation of my account. Anyway, the new set of coasters have been passed onto the kids.

Another data point - the LTG card has a 5 year life cycle as the Qantas Cash component has an expiry of 03/2020.

I don't understand how some people get comped.
I once missed out by 200SC and couldn't status run for personal reasons and for that year I dropped to SG until re-qualified.
Even if they didn't comp me it would be nice the following year if I just had to hit the retain rather than attain target... But then I don't want the lounges any fuller than they are either.

Christoo, until I read your last sentence I was bored - everyone wants rules bent, soft landings, etc etc so that they get a status level they haven't actually earnt. And many of the same whinge about how "WP is the new SG" etc. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. BUt you have recognized that dynamic! :)

My comp occurred (assumed) because I racked up 5,470SC in the two years prior ... i.e. my total over three years was >1,200/year. Who knows?
 
I am 15SC short with 24 hours to go to re-qualify for WP. I have to cancel a HKG-PVG-HKG trip earlier in the month due to illness. Emailed QF but no reply yet.

If you haven't already been comped by this stage you won't be.

I'm thinking of doing a HKG-MNL-HKG tomorrow night. It's a public holiday in HK on Wed.

Thanks for the offer but it will have to wait for another time. Just called Qantas and they have comped me platinum for another year.

Very happy I don't have to fly to MNL tonight and grateful that Qantas comped me the status for another year.

Argh - you used a trump card when only 15 SC short? I would have used it when you had 0 status credits one year.... :\
