For those who have been comped status

My anniversary has clicked over the 30JUN16 and I stayed WP. It clearly shows the paltry few SC's i did earn in the last year as dropped off as well as SCs required to retain WP. I'm guessing that means a comp, which would be 2 years in a row. Anyone else ever heard of this?

A colleague who once did over 15,000 SCs in a year and then took time off to have kids was comped at least five years in a row with virtually no activity.

OK, so it isn't unheard of. My count for the last 3 years would be 3000ish. So I'm guessing I'd better get the 1200 this year or it's SG for me!

Another data point. I have been WP for the past two and half years and will be until 31-Dec this year. This year, I'm probably only going to get under 300SC's with QF, so will be interesting if the "three year" rule will be applied, or if i'll get punted down to SG.

I would not be too sure.

How does the 'comp' show?

Qantas keep the status at the prior level for some days into a new month, presumably in case some later SC's come in. Within about a week, the guillotine can fall.

Sadly, with last year's web site revisions there is now an issue with the first few days of a new month when the status showing is implied as valid for another 12 months. This is often not the case and status drops in a few days.

Generally, those being comped rather then drop a level for July would have received a new card around mid June, although it is not always the case.

Way to bring me down serfty.

I guess I saw the "No. of SCs to retain Platinum" and thought you beauty. Oh well if I miss out no real big deal, the travel is drying up in the current role.

Edit: Mods mix up on my part. it was QFWP that didn't deliver the Hi Viz. Sorry serfty.

I got comped Gold this week (my end date is 30 June). I was well short of requalifying so was waiting to get my Silver card but a Gold one arrived in the mail, with the letter saying they had comped me. Doing my happy dance :)

Sorry to butt in here but my WP ends on 31/10 and I will not requalify this year sadley (after 2 years) but I am travelling on the 1st November internationally, do you think we can still get into the first lounge, if the database has not caught up ?

Alas you are correct, took them a few days to catch up. Down to SG go I.

I just pulled out of a trip to DPS. Due to work commitments. That will leave me 250 short for WP this year. Not sure I will be comped with that big Gap. Year ends 31st August. Unless QF are feeling Generous I suspect it's SG for me

Yes sadly ... I have come across this quite a few times. It's not so much the apaarent retention of status ... it's the date (in this case 2016) which is most misleading.

Interesting. I never do online checkin, but if you could on the 31st, maybe it would still be WP?

almost certainly your status will still be Plat on 1 Nov so no issues with lounge access

An alternative - tell them you are Colombian - it is still the 31st Oct here for most of the 1st Nov in Australia - that is sure to befuddle them :)

Last year my QP extension (I soft landed to Silver) expired 31 May. My boarding passes on 12 Jun showed Silver + QP. OTOH the computer may have recognized that the completion of those two flights qualified me as SG.

Happy wandering

Fred

I am hoping to get comped this year (WP) I had to cancel a (WP qualifying) JQ Star class flight ( Bali when the volcano was erupting). Normally I wouldn't have worried. But I had a (1st) shipment of beer arriving. Do I needed to be certain I was in town on the day. Anyway, at the suggestion of the QLD operations manager I called the platinum line. The net result is I was told I already had an adjustment (comp) last year. This is of course a fallacy, what actually occurred was a "correction" on my account to post the "correct" number of SC's.
So I am now to call back in the last week of my year (cap in hand) to beg for mercy. I don't actually get it, as nothing will change between now and August 31st my flights are booked and paid for. Either they will or won't comp WP for another year or not. The polite conversation notwithstanding , I am somewhat disappointed in the outcome. .... Why you ask? Because Mrs GPH was comped at the same stage last month, double standard? I shall watch with interest to see if my unstinting loyalty has value.

I've had several shortish trips (including a return trip to Auckland in J) planned to make sure I retained WP by August 31st. When I logged on last week to check a few bookings, a message appeared saying I'd already retained WP.
Presuming it was the work experience kids doing their thing, I called up and indeed I had been comped. I was told that to retain status for the following year I would have to do it all by myself, which is fair enough.
I still have to do my planned trips as being a cheapskate, they are redi deals and it isn't worth cancelling nor changing, so I'm currently in Devonport. Anyway, now I'm wondering if I retain WP through my own work, what's the chance of being comped next year?

Do not count on being comped. I was not this year and there are many reports of this occurring to others as well. It is not an official QFF benefit and the process they use is not public. So if you want to keep status guaranteed then do the flights.
Of course the upshot has been that I have now reduced my flying on QF, also flew EK F instead but not enough time at SYD to even think about going to the First Lounge, and I will work away at Lifetime SG ans settle there.

Wouldn't be nice to be handicapped by a faux comp. Good luck!
