Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

Don't get too excited just yet. My P1 status showed that for 10 days, then dropped. I knew I wasn't being comped as I hadn't received the replacement card.

Haha! I won't get too excited then either! I just started a new membership year. I just missed the 3,600 but cleared the 2,700 on QF. I am listed as P1 when I log in but will count the days until I am shown the door. Not that it matters as my wife has her Platinum card now, which seems to be the only true incremental benefit of P1.

I find the 3,600 thing hard to fathom. Surely all that matters to QF is direct revenue, so you'd expect the 2,700 the be the key qualification threshold, no?

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

hi all

just wanted to throw the question out there. Has anyone ever had their level retained even if far from the points required to reach it and ask Qantas to extended and were successful ?

I have reached WP last year and right after that I changed roles at my work which did not require me travelling as much. Bummer. Almost year later, I moved roles again and I and and will be travelling a lot, both domestic and international so I emailed Qantas and explained my situation and asked if it would be possible to get an exemption and retain my membership level but I received a generic answer and was declined. I wasnt expecting to get it but at the same time I was curious to see how much Qantas value their business travelers and how far would they go to retain them.

so yes, anyone out there who did not come even close to SCs required to retain their level and still managed to keep it ?

In reply to the original question, I was maintained WP in April 2010 having only hit about 800SCs. This was a bad year in the business world in general and I think QF probably saw a big dip in flying from most of their members, and were wisely looking to the longer term.

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

Me too. Last year.

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

Bummer, yes indeed it dropped back to Gold after few days. Oh well...

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

... I changed roles at my work which did not require me travelling ....... I was curious to see how much Qantas value their business travelers and how far would they go to retain them....t ?

'How much Qantas value their business travelers" ????

I understand the pain of losing status, but please be reasonable. If you are not flying, why on earth should Qantas make you a "frequent flyer" ???????

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

slightly related...

Received an email from QF reminding me to retain P1. I have 3 months to go on my membership year and am on 3120 SC's (though was on 2900 when the email was generated) basically reminding me I have to make the 3600 for P1 etc. I don't recall getting one of these previously.

just booked the flight I need to retain - in June. so.. yeah.. no issue

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

SWMBO was comped Silver this year despite (nowhere near) qualifying.

Not a big deal as she is not flying much and the incremental benefit at silver is pretty low. Last year was her first year at Silver.

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

Is it risky to expect a soft landing if one has not flown 4 QF sectors?

shouldn't be risky. It's usual to be soft landed even if you have no QF sectors.

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

After being WP since 2009 (thanks to AFF) no status comp this year... soft-landed to Gold :(

Fortunately travelling F on BA in July to Europe and back, courtesy of AA miles so still get to visit the SYD Flounge :)

Re: Anyone ever had their level retained even if not achieving required SCs ?

I have been comped Platinum in the past but still made it in my own right. I am sitting on 1,150SCs with ~5 weeks to go. No sign of being comped.
And I have somehow been comped in the past couple of weeks. Sitting on 1170 SCs and the new pack arrived home. Did 20SCs on weekend and another 20 SCs on 29 May and 31 May will get me to 1210 SCs for the year.

Cut this one too fine.

WP comped?

Has this account been comped WP? Seems odd to have this message sitting here when only 750SC have been earn during current membership period. When you close it it still says Platinum to 29 Feb 2016.

Re: WP comped?

The congrats is definite confirmation that you have been comped. You'll soon get a letter stating that although you didn't meet the criteria, they are giving it to you based on past loyalty.

That said, this normally happens the month of membership anniversary, not in June for February... Has your partner made P1?

Its my dads account. I don't see the point in comp'ing soo early. He has been platinum every year since 1998 and will get there again by Feb. There wouldnt be anyone that is P1 that has nominated him.

QF save the comping for when his travel backs off in a couple of years!! ;)

Do you know how many status credits over and above the 1200 requal threshold he has earned in the past 3 years?

1998 is impressive!

I lost WP at the end of Feb . Have been WP for 10 years and had bookings in the system that has seen me reclaim WP this week ... the system is unpredictable however, your father is definitely in the deserved catergory.

Its probably worth your dad getting in touch with QF to query and maybe decline to comp-ing. If he is confident of getting WP by his anniversary date, he doesn't need comp-ing of course. QF may retain in his record that he's been comp-ed once and may not do it again at a leter date, when your dad may actually need it.

Re: WP comped?

I have 5 SCs before I hit the 1200 with an anniversary on August 31 (and over 300SC of forward booking between now and then) but I still haven't "requalified" ... Lucky for some. I'll probably get a
DSC just after I requal with no chance of P1.
