Sorry, I wasn't aware - and in these circumstances my comment was inappropriate. Apologies for any offence if caused.
Not offended at all.

Six weeks, a start but a long way to go to catch me with > 21 years of abstinence.
That's pretty good although I cannot see myself lasting that long.

JohnK, why don't you try staying off the grog? You've lost a stack of weight which is fantastic and you've mentioned several times it has a bad effect on you. Alcohol is a huge contributor to depression and weight gain.... Would love to see you stay off it for a while and try again with some moderate exercise and diet :p
Sounds like good advice.

The key to drinking alcohol is to be able to understand the word "moderation" and be able to have self control. There is nothing wrong with having 3-4 beers after a game of golf. The problems start when the drinking continues after one has gone home and before you know it you find yourself in the pub up the road till 3:00am. There goes 1-2 days out of a person's life trying to recover.

Lounges and "free" alcohol do not help....

There is something wrong if you are trying to lose weight though....!

I don't know its all about mind over matter, just because somethings free doesn't mean its good for you... Perhaps try thinking about it not in 'monetary' free but your life expectancy / emotional health... Because its certainly not free for your body.

I really struggle in general to understand how some people can eat and drink the way they do - it just indicates such a lack of respect for themselves and their loved ones (JohnK this is not directed at you BTW for the record).

I think you should try giving up the grog too JohnK and I'm glad others on hear are encouraging you to consider this also. A lot of people find it easier to have a blanket ban than moderation... Your body is probably rejoicing you had a 'forced detox'! You've had such a tough time recently why not try and reap a benefit from it... This is your silver lining!!

Remember alcohol is a poison, when you ingest it your body stops doing everything else apart from trying to get rid of it - that's why its so bad for people with weight problems.

Not trying to be smart but over indulging in food and drink is not always the reason some people are overweight. Try insulin resistance for one. Depression is another. Taking medicines for lengthy periods is another. I am sure there are other reasons.

Perhaps total abstinence is the solution.

So true although alcohol in moderation and giving the body 3 days break from alcohol every week can actually be good for you.

Can check champagnes in SQ lounge on 1st December as I am going to LAX out of PER using those Kris points that are easy to use. Sure I am on the 747 and not the A380 but I am happy on both QF and SQ brands and both models of planes.

John good luck with getting well. I was hooked on Diet Coke and an operation with morphine unhooked me 16 years ago. I now think of that period of my life as having a chemical addiction.

Don't expect much from SQ in regards to champagne. In "The Private Room" in SIN which is meant to be their premier lounge, only Charles Heidseck was available... yeuck!

what are the options at sq f lounge.............its been a year......??

I don't remember seeing champers at the MEL SKL F late last year. They've had Moet NV there before IIRC. In any Flounge bubbly is the first thing I looked for and it was nowhere to be found. :( The NZ lounge in MEL is far superior anyway.
Charles Heidsieck NV is poured in SIN at both SKL F and the Private Room.

Oh for the good old days of Dom Perignon in the SIN SKL F... goes well with all that satay and peanut sauce. Sadly the DP was "enhanced" away along with all those changes that purported to make PPS Club "more exclusive."

Slight surprise this morning. They are now offering Bollinger Special Cuvee in the SYD F lounge as well the lovely Veuve Deveaux, acceptable Veuve Cliquot and vomit inducing Tattinger.

Sadly i missed out as i had ordered my Deveaux and only overhead that they had bolly...
Interestingly, I had a bolly or two and found it OK, but a little sour.

Went back to the Tatt and found it a lot smoother.

Palates vary I guess.

Not being a Platinum any more I went to Dan Murphy's for Verve,Moet and Rumball for our street picnic tomorrow.
The champagne in OZ is about double the Costco price in Marina Del Rey.
Enjoy those 4 champagnes twice as much in the F lounge!

Tried the holly and am not that impressed. Moving onto reds with the steak

Totally hear ya... I went to BevMo in SF last night with a friend who has membership. Managed to get Belle Epoque 2000 (or Fleur de Lys as it's branded here) for the princely sum of $119, and Dom Perignon 2000 for $121! I think it's about $30 more without membership. Still very cheap compared to back home!

No Deveaux in the F lounge any more - my life is over - I have to drink Veuve cliquot instead.
