Free flight for those disrupted.

In the same boat as you.

My email is listed as the contact in the Manage my bookings section, but because it has been booked through the corporate travel agent, features like flight changes are disabled online, so the primary contact may be hidden in the back end there.

Has anyone recieved the email yet?

My flight was booked through corporate travel agent. And like you flight changes are normally disabled. Normally my travel agent doesn't populate the email address for contact details section, just the work phone number. When the grounding occurred I went in and added my email address manually to the booking. The surprising thing is I still get SMS updates so Qantas must match the booking against my FF number to get my mobile number.

On the 6/11 I received the personalised email telling me about the offer and that I would receive further email (which I haven't received yet) in the next week about the offer. So far it has worked for me for a booking through a TA.

Hmmm, I had a flight cancelled, but it was booked and paid for by my employer .... I wonder how that will work?

According to SMH, the commonwealth government is negotiating for all the free flights to go to the government and not the employee. Might set a precedent for all corporates to follow. Im surprised qantas didn't think of this issue considering their hold on the business market.

I booked my affected flights through Expedia, so wasn't sure if they had the correct email address on the booking.

Just received the following email from QF:

As the primary contact on your booking, this email is confirmation of the free flight for Blackswan.

Blackswan can book flights from 30 November 2011 for travel from 14 December 2011. We'll be in touch with you just before then with details of how Blackswan can book flights.qantas.com/flywithus will also be updated with the latest information

We are also pleased to say that since the industrial action is over, no more aircraft can be grounded and no further services will be cancelled as a result of the industrial action. So you can feel free to confidently fly with us, on us.

Sincerely,
The Qantas Team

Didn't tell me anything new. At least I know they have my email address...

Mine was a private booking and at this point I have heard nothing from Qantas.

You might have to register on the website when the registration form is available on Friday (11/11). I had a close look at the T&C today and we have until the end of January to get locked in, IIRC.

Heard back regarding my refund today, sounds like it is all going ahead, even the extra money for the virgin cancellation (which I couldn't prove easily). Still waiting to hear what compensation will be offered to those with international bookings, but at least most of my money will be back on the cards eventually.

Yep, I got my email today as well.

It seems from a few emails I've seen this week that our company has decided to allow us to have the free flights to use as we wish (for personal use), which is excellent. Maybe something to do with the offer being made specifically to the traveller? Either way, I'm happy :)

There was some email traffic re: FBT on the value, but apparently that's not an issue either, as the offer has been made publically and it's not a benefit provided by the employer.

Good stuff. The problem with the government's reported position is the free flights are extras for the traveller, not replacements for those who purchased the flight.

I noticed some interesting behaviour regarding the email notifications that were sent out yesterday.

I just wanted to post about it here on the off chance some of you are in the same situation (i.e. haven't received any email from QF).

SWMBO received the "Free flight offer confirmation" email twice. One addressed to her, and one to me.

This is despite the fact that the booking was made under my QFF account.

Around 3-4 hours before the disruption was announced I loaded the booking and added her QFF number to it. I suppose it's possible that this action may have somehow made her email address the primary contact address for the booking.

She religiously deletes all email from QF under the assumption that I will handle all of her travel arrangements - so this one almost flew under the radar.

OT a little - I've always wondered why....when booking a family trip under my FF No or with my FF points & with the ranking status of WP, upon checkin the ranking FF No in the system & name on the baggage tags is not me but either the oldest FF member or the oldest person in the group? Of little consequence & trivial but I've always wondered.

Re: Not sure if I am eligible

<snip>

Since my flight (QF10) was cancelled, I should be eligible according to the above quote, but since I did fly on an alternate flight and I did earn SC and miles, and as I have not yet received an email from Qantas indicating I would be eligible for one of these compensation flights, I am wondering if I am entitled or not.

Thoughts?
As it turns out, I am entitled - I got my email lats night.

has anyone actually got the link yet to make a booking? the one in the email leads to fact page only...

This might be a stupid question, but I assumed that the whole "travel that originated in Australia" meant the whole ticket and not just the leg that was cancelled, however I am yet to get an email.

Has anyone who was impacted overseas but had a return ticket issued in Australia received an email?

There is suppose to be a separate offer for people on international travel. No doubt you'll hear about it here shortly after it is realised.

Pozza, not quite sure what you mean but we travelled normally to Singapore on a return ticket purchased in Australia and then we were disrupted in Singapore. We received the free flight email.

The free flight request form is now available here:

Free Flight Offer Request Form | Thank you

The specific criteria of the offer listed are:

If you haven't already received an email from us and your flight was cancelled between 5:00pm AEDT Saturday 29 October 2011 and 11:59pm AEDT Monday 31 October 2011 due to the grounding of the fleet, you can register your details, if you believe to be eligible to receive your free return domestic flight, or a return flight between Australia and New Zealand. For customers whose travel originated from ports outside Australia, we will be in touch with you separately.

Note that those whose flight originated outside Australia will be contacted separately. I suggest that would apply to the cancelled flight only if one was on the return leg of a booking.

From what I remember seeing in the FAQ, something in addition to what has already been offered will be made to those who had business/first bookings...

The FAQ says:
"Q I had a Premium Economy, Business or First class seat on the disrupted flight, is my free flight an equivalent class seat?
A Your complimentary flights are only available in Economy class. We will be in contact with you soon about other benefits we’ll be giving our eligible Premium Economy, Business and First class customers who were disrupted by the grounding."

I look forward to hearing about any "other benefits".

What are the opinions of people on here who normally only fly premium cabins on QF and have been given the free flight? Is it something you would take up or it's of no interest to you?

I had a J class BNE - SYD - CGK booked for 31/10/11. I do everything that I can to avoid travelling in Y and only do so if I absolutely have to - i.e. short-haul domestic flights for work such as BNE to SYD. I doubt that I will use the free flight (given it is not upgradeable) and the FAQs say that you can't transfer the free flight to someone else. I might just have to suck it up and fly Y - it would be a slight waste not to... I'll just need to find a quiet flight on a 767 with plenty of free space...
